As requested from a previous thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2823906-to-think-you-should-ignore-people-having-a-go-at-you-if-you-are-the-President-Elect-of-the-USA?

It's going to be a beautiful thread. MNers, who by the way are amazing, can contribute as much as they want.

Roussette, even if Trump was otherwise lovely and rational, the fact that he admits (proudly?) that he has never read a book would be enough to put me off.

originalmavis · 20/01/2017 19:07

Bugger the booze, I'm more worried about a president who had never held elected office before (not even Boy Scout Troup leader) let alone a role in politics.

I wonder if his proctologist is qualified and experienced or just an enthusiastic amateur? (Cos that's what the poor buggers without Obamacare will be getting now).

Roussette · 20/01/2017 19:09

Exactly squish

Apparently ... I heard on the radio today... he did take some psychometric tests to see if he was fit for Office... all incoming Presidents have to. God knows how he got through that.

BigBadgers · 20/01/2017 19:17

I would love to see the results Rousette

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 19:19

They were the best results. The biggest, most beautiful psychometric results ever. Really, really, great. Bigly humbling.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 20/01/2017 19:20

LOL at Michelle's face when he finished speaking.

InformalRoman · 20/01/2017 19:21

DH always says that a large number of CEOs score very highly on the Psychopath Test.

I don't think his boss was that impressed when DH shared that little nugget with him.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/01/2017 19:22

We noticed Michelle's body language when Trump hugged her by the helicopter. She kept her arms by her side & did not return the gesture. A studied fuck-you in body language.

BestIsWest · 20/01/2017 19:22

If ever a picture said it all.

originalmavis · 20/01/2017 19:22

That's true - I heard that from a HR bod recently. They'd eat their own young.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/01/2017 19:23

We also noticed how warm & friendly the Clintons, Dubya & Laura seemed together, laughing & chatting, on the way out.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 20/01/2017 19:25

I think Trump is more megalomaniac than psychopath

commeth the hour commeth that man, what fucking hour is it that could call forth a man like that
wtf America

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 19:27

The Bushes and Clintons may have been very different politically, but there has never been the level of personal nastiness that trump brought to the 2016 debate. Plus, former POTUS and FLOTUS is such a small club to be in, that it makes sense for there to be some solidarity between them.

BigBadgers · 20/01/2017 19:29

I have to ask something pigwrestler... are there 8 other former pig wrestlers on mumsnet? Do u have a club? It sounds awesome :o

HerRoyalNotness · 20/01/2017 19:30

It's pretty well known that the Clinton's and the Bush family are, if not best buds, at least cordial. They are with political families that have worked with each other for years. It shows a maturity and respect to be friendly with the opposition I think.

I had no ideaConfused
er I mean yes yes, we are a club, it's very specialised, years of training in secret techniques are required to pig wrestle :o
(I'm only a turquoise belt though, so not properly dangerous yet!)

Or a part of the political Washington elite? I wonder what happens to the elite when people who don't like the elites gain power...

OP posts:
squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 19:45

Depends on definition of elite though - Hillary Clinton wasn't born into a political elite, although she is certainly part of the establishment now. But then if anyone with any experience in politics or government is defined as "elite", and elites are viewed as terrible, I fear for the chances of competent leadership...

amispartacus · 20/01/2017 19:50

"Within a few weeks the political debris and the social prejudices which had been accumulating through years of American history were removed and cleared away.

May we not speak of a revolution when the chaotic conditions brought about by parliamentary-democracy disappear in less than three months and a regime of order and discipline takes their place, and a new energy springs forth from a firmly welded unity and a comprehensive authoritative power such as America never before had?

So great was the Revolution that its intellectual foundations are not even yet understood but are superficially criticized by our contemporaries. They talk of democracies and dictatorships; but they fail to grasp the fact that in this country a radical transformation has taken place and has produced results which are democratic in the highest sense of the word, if democracy has any meaning at all"

Is this Trump speaking next year?

That's for the next four years once he's re-elected.
Shock

Lweji · 20/01/2017 20:48

I've rewatched it with DS. We've eaten all the M&Ms (large packet) on Trump Bingo and feel a bit sick.
