As requested from a previous thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2823906-to-think-you-should-ignore-people-having-a-go-at-you-if-you-are-the-President-Elect-of-the-USA?

It's going to be a beautiful thread. MNers, who by the way are amazing, can contribute as much as they want.

In the bible, rain is the sign of a blessing.

I'm not convinced. It could be the start of a new world flood. Which is not that unlikely, with the global warming created by Chi-na.

Lweji · 20/01/2017 17:34

ABC commentators

"he is not President of the World" - someone should tell him. Who?

DisneylandDreams · 20/01/2017 17:34

ooh, I'll check out Obama's speeches later.

Not too crowded half-way up? Fucking empty!!

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/01/2017 17:34

That should have been 'best singer' they could get...

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 17:36

He thanked the people of the world, but was very keen to emphasise America First...
So to paraphrase it's "thanks a lot but fuck you!" to the rest of us.

squishysquirmy · 20/01/2017 17:36

Not that there's anything wrong with a leader putting their country first of course, but it's not a zero sum game!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 20/01/2017 17:39

America First?
Well, we have Britain First, we all know how lovely the are Hmm

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 20/01/2017 17:39

DH just got home from a meeting. He listened to the Radio 4 broadcast on the way home, so I rolled back our cable & we are watching a second time. I was so distracted by his hands first time around & the fact he was managing to finish sentences that I was only half listening. It's total bollocks. He talks about shuttered factories and lost jobs. There was something on the radio last night or this morning about the 6,000 jobs that have been lost in New Jersey since Trump mothballed his 3 casinos in Atlantic City. Pots and kettles....

InformalRoman · 20/01/2017 17:40

Bet Michelle will be in tears as soon as those helicopter doors close.

amispartacus · 20/01/2017 17:40

It's a bit different to Theresa May and her speech last week.

Totes emosh bit coming up I think

DisneylandDreams · 20/01/2017 17:41

I wouldn't blame either of them for being upset after that speech to be honest. It was horrifying.

MsHooliesCardigan · 20/01/2017 17:41

What a pile of shite. Did anyone count how many times he did the bum hole gesture? There was no substance to that whatsoever.
The crowd look distinctly underwhelmed.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 20/01/2017 17:42

So Obama is now going and Donald Trump is on the loose in the White House with no responsible adult to supervise him.

God help us all.

TheLegendOfBeans · 20/01/2017 17:43

MsHoolie

156,000 times methinks

Roussette · 20/01/2017 17:44

I love Michelle. She is the height of discretion. Her body language said everything as she had to endure a kiss from DT though

amispartacus · 20/01/2017 17:45

I wonder what power by the people looks like?

oldmum22 · 20/01/2017 17:47

My son and I just watched this and I said to him, that I hoped he remember this moment ,as he was witnessing a dictator taking power. The speech was full of empty promises with little to indicate how he was going to finance them. His hand movements were distracting and the singer Jackie Ivana (?) sounded like a pub singer. I sincerely hope that all will be well .

SanFranBear · 20/01/2017 17:52

Thanks for posting the link to Obama's speech, Sparticus...

Only a slight trashing of the previous administration and so much hope, so much promise, so much thought about others less fortunate. Such a different tone and far less grandstanding that DT tried to be.

I am so worried for the future right now

doggle · 20/01/2017 17:52

Lots of coverage of the protests here (including apologies for the placards on live tv - variations on 'fuck off trump') and they are starting a tally of arrests and hospitalisations. Apparently it's 89 to beat (Nixon)

Roussette · 20/01/2017 17:56

I agree SanFran.

Roussette · 20/01/2017 17:59

He's tweeted 5 mins ago.

"This day will be remembered as the day the people become the rulers of this nation again"

Very scary all of this is.

MsHooliesCardigan · 20/01/2017 18:00

There is a definite sense of history being made. And not in a good way. The way I feel is the exact opposite of how I felt watching the Berlin Wall come down.

BigBadgers · 20/01/2017 18:10

It's all horrible and terrifying....And now I am having a row with my 4 year old over a burger. I think I might join Michelle Obama in a good cry.

InformalRoman · 20/01/2017 18:14

Don't sweat the small stuff BigBadgers - give your DC a hug instead.
