Just that. Settle a minor disagreement please - is it fine to give a 6yo steak cooked medium rare, or should they have it well done?

I can't see why it would be a problem as long as they like it that way!

littlepeas · 13/12/2016 18:35

I think it's fine.

Wolpertinger · 13/12/2016 18:36

Can't see why they shouldn't have it apart from the waste of a good steak

StStrattersOfMN · 13/12/2016 18:36

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

DisneyMillie · 13/12/2016 18:36

Strict food "rules" probably say no but I would

DorotheaHomeAlone · 13/12/2016 18:36

Absolutely fine

LunaLoveg00d · 13/12/2016 18:36

There are no food hygiene risks from eating rare steak.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 13/12/2016 18:36

If that's the way they prefer it why on earth wouldn't you let them have it?

One of mine has his blue and always has.

Haggisfish · 13/12/2016 18:37

Fine. No health risks.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 13/12/2016 18:37

Sounds fine to me.

GravyAndShite · 13/12/2016 18:37

Thank you - 6yo prefers it medium rare but I get the 😳🙄 from DM worried about bacteria or something. (My turn for an 🙄)

Artandco · 13/12/2016 18:37

Of course, it's usually served medium-medium rare in most places, and it tastes so much better. Ours have eaten steak medium rare since 6+ months as would just have a piece from Dh or I when small

OhMrBadger · 13/12/2016 18:37

It's absolutely fine.

shudders at well done steak

It's fine, I'm not sure why anyone would think it isn't, assuming the child is happy to eat it (im guessing this is a grandparent accusing the parent of poisoning the child with half raw meat? voice of experience )

Camomila · 13/12/2016 18:38

I think it's fine, I think even steak tartare/a ceviche would be fine if the 6 year old liked it/wanted to try it.

Lazybeans50 · 13/12/2016 18:38

Not sure whether it's fine or not but when my DS was 6 (and younger) he loved medium rare steak Grin

whyohwhy000 · 13/12/2016 18:39

The inside of steaks is sterile, so as long as the outside is cooked properly then it's fine. This is also why you shouldn't eat medium rare burgers.

Crispbutty · 13/12/2016 18:39

It's absolutely fine.

I ask people if they want their steaks rare, medium rare or ruined Grin

derxa · 13/12/2016 18:39

Keep your DM away from France OP. She would have the right vapours there.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 13/12/2016 18:41

The bacteria is on the outside of the steak so that will be cooked and safe and as long as it's cooked through and not actually raw, it'll be fine! Ds loves a medium rare steak!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 13/12/2016 18:41

There's guidelines about only giving DCs of 5 and under, meat that is well done. I'd still follow those guidelines if they were 6.

Okkitokkiunga · 13/12/2016 18:42

I would (and do) though I have been to a restaurant where they refused to serve a child anything other than a well done steak.

Okkitokkiunga · 13/12/2016 18:42

The child in question was 10.

RitchyBestingFace · 13/12/2016 18:42

DS1 has had rare steak since 5 as a preference.
He also had sushi from weaning age.
