To tell MNHQ that I think they are awesome

GrinchyMcGrincherson · 03/11/2016 22:03

I've just come back from site stuff where MNHQ are taking a battering for reasons I can't even understand and I came via a thread on which Justine has taken even worse. What the hell is going on?

I wanted to let HQ know that this vocal minority is a minority. So who is with me? Let's have some love for HQ. No one ever gets everything right all the time so why should they be any different? Why should they be hurled abuse at because they made a call that some people didn't like? Or have an opinion someone disagrees with? Guess what different opinions exist and some people even respect others rights to have a differing one.

This forum is so popular entirely because HQ allow debates about topics other forms would delete and try to allow freedom of speech as far as possible by only intervening when absolutely necessary. They also let us swear. Because of this They also have to troll hunt constantly.

They do a brilliant job in difficult circumstances. Given how much crap I've seen them take in public I'd hate to be whoever deals with HQs inbox!

So shout out to MNHQ and night watch. Thank you for all you do!

Yes the attacks on Rebecca unpleasant and made those people look very hypocritical, given that they were complaining about the way some forum members were posting.

MaudGonneMad · 04/11/2016 12:41

Yep, RebeccaMumsnet got a very hard time; it was unpleasant to say the least.

ZoeTurtle · 04/11/2016 12:44

Yeah, especially when her post was so well balanced and clearly sympathetic to both "sides".

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/11/2016 12:44

YANBU, MNHQ generally do a good job in hard circumstances. I am always amazed at their restraint at not banning those who verbally abuse them.

And I am happy that it is a space where everything can be discussed, including transgender elephants with disabilities worrying about abortions.

Flowers to MNHQ

I agree, plus they got very personal.

I want to read that thread Grin

I agree.

It also anoys me that some think they speak for everyone.

No you don't.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/11/2016 13:21

Piglet I'll refer you to a post I made on another thread

The disabled community are as much a hive mind as women, people of a certain ethnicity or sexuality.

As in with all groups some will see an ism and call it whilst others will not see it and others still will be apologists for the ism and actively deny it.

Most people will accept that of a member of a minority sees something then that is important to them and respect it. There will always be people who expect a minority to get a grip and shut up. Which says far more about the person trying to suppress said minority.

I don't speak for everybody. But I do speak for more than just me.

Queenbean · 04/11/2016 13:25

It was nice that this was a thread thanking MNHQ. Not to drag across the same argument that you've already posted on another thread.

Can't we let that thread take care of the argument and this be a nice thread?

Fed up of the MNHQ bashing

Thisjustinno · 04/11/2016 13:30

Yes. This is a thread for MNHQ which is nice (for once). Let's keep it that way.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/11/2016 13:52

Bishop

Please stop telling me and others what we do or don't see. Especially when they are also part of that minority.

This thread wasn't about that however, yet you still brought it in.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 04/11/2016 14:14

I agree OP, I think MNHQ does its best and each of the team members there tries really hard to accommodate the various requests and even demands.

Some of the posts I've seen to Justine, Rebecca, etc. are disgraceful and I have no respect whatsoever for the posters who think they own the board and are entitled to dictate what does and doesn't happen here.

Good job, MNHQ and thanks for this board, I enjoy it anyway. Star

ArcheryAnnie · 04/11/2016 18:30

...vitriol. Vile personal attacks and this superior attitude

GrinchyMcGrincherson er, did you miss that my post was in praise of MNHQ? That I think they should be proud of the way they handle a very diverse and very opinionated bunch of people, and get it all running reasonably smoothly without generally having to shut down or restrict debate?

KatieScarlett · 04/11/2016 18:39

I love HQ, they have always been to me, more decent than I deserve.
And they keep a sense of humour always, even when a saint would have told us to FTFO.
And the PAs are shameful.
Stop it.

cheminotte · 04/11/2016 19:05

Yanbu. MNHQ is fab!

ApplesinmyPocket · 04/11/2016 19:08

They seem to me to be Good Eggs, doing the best they can. They have some very tricky calls to make. How can they please everyone? it's not possible because as we've seen, posters have very different opinions as to 'what should be done'.

Cake for MNHQ from me.

I think they do a very good job in often very trying circumstances..... which is all part of the charm of the site Smile

YANBU

Thank you MNHQ

Some people treat you like shit when you miss something. Now they want you to do diversity training, I would find it so hard not to laugh in their faces if I was you. You can't please everyone, it's a huge websites and people should cut you more slack when things do go a bit wrong.

Many of us appreciate what you do Thanks

OlennasWimple · 04/11/2016 20:45

MNHQ do occasionally get things wrong, of course, everyone does - they are normally pretty good about apologising for it and trying to make it right. I think the recent-ish influx of mods led to some odd decisions, especially late at night, but those seem to be teething problems which have been mostly ironed out.

Flowers to MNHQ

ConstantCraving · 04/11/2016 21:48

Err...Why is it funny to suggest diversity training? And why should MNHQ be cut some slack? They aren't saints doing voluntary work for you all. They are actually paid to do their moderating role and when they get it wrong (over and over again when it comes to disability) they will, quite rightly, be called on it.

MistressMerryWeather · 04/11/2016 21:57

No one has said or implied they are saints, Constant.

People just think that HQ are always respectful to us and deserve the same back.

That isn't happening at the moment - What is happening is that there are people here who believe HQ personally owe them something and when they don't get their way they think it's OK to rage against HQ staff.

I don't see why they should have to put up with that.

Trills · 04/11/2016 22:02

Yup. Good job gang.

I can't figure out if people have really unreasonable expectations, or if they can't realise that compromise means that sometimes you will be the one who is unhappy.

ConstantCraving · 04/11/2016 22:06

I don't think its about people feeling they're 'owed' anything - but there is an expectation that moderators should moderate. People rage when they don't feel heard - so when the same offensive language and attitudes are left to stand people feel frustrated and let down.
