AIBU?

To tell MNHQ that I think they are awesome

I've just come back from site stuff where MNHQ are taking a battering for reasons I can't even understand and I came via a thread on which Justine has taken even worse. What the hell is going on?

I wanted to let HQ know that this vocal minority is a minority. So who is with me? Let's have some love for HQ. No one ever gets everything right all the time so why should they be any different? Why should they be hurled abuse at because they made a call that some people didn't like? Or have an opinion someone disagrees with? Guess what different opinions exist and some people even respect others rights to have a differing one.

This forum is so popular entirely because HQ allow debates about topics other forms would delete and try to allow freedom of speech as far as possible by only intervening when absolutely necessary. They also let us swear. Because of this They also have to troll hunt constantly.

They do a brilliant job in difficult circumstances. Given how much crap I've seen them take in public I'd hate to be whoever deals with HQs inbox!

So shout out to MNHQ and night watch. Thank you for all you do!

bibbity it is exactly that topic where MNHQ are at their best, they allow free debate to happen where those stating facts aren't immediately shut down.

YANBU

Just now, someone accidentally posted wrong photo containing someones personal info. Awesomely quickly deleted.

Sure, they don't get everything right, and there are some issues where trying to steer a tolerant middle line will get them flak from both sides. I really don't envy them at times.

WorraLiberty · 03/11/2016 23:06

They are far more polite than I am and When they do fuck up they hold their hands up as well and apologise. It's fine to disagree or to raise an issue and it's fine to question things sometimes. It's not fine to make nasty personal remarks, be vindictive and bullying and to dictate how things should be done.

I agree.

And I also think some people expect far too much from HQ, far too quickly.

It's sometimes as though when they report a post, they expect it to be deleted immediately, like they don't have anything else to do.

And then if HQ do delete a post immediately, they're often still wrong because they should have spent more time thinking about whether it really broke talk guidelines or not.

They can't do right for doing wrong sometimes.

I think MN is one of the few places transgender issues can be debated,
They can't take a stand point on this issue as there are so many points of view.
They walk a fine line with this very contentious issue, and they do a decent job.

Do I get cross at some decisions MNHQ make? Yes, of course, loudly and often, at times.

But this is their sandbox, and we are playing in it. And on the whole they let us get on with it, and tolerate a much, much wider range of opinion and expression than many other forums, including ones that think themselves much ~edgier~ than MN. I think MNHQ should be proud of this.

Very well said Archery.

(Don't get loudly cross near grinch fgs, her definition of 'hammering' makes me think she's quite fragile.)

Please can we not turn this in to another transgender thread?

It is a nice opportunity to show support for MNHQ

I agree MNHQ do a great job in difficult circumstances. You can't please everyone all of the time. MNHQ always seem to try and moderate with humour and respect and when they do get it wrong they hold their hands up.

According to wiki some think 'duck tape' preceded 'duct tape', but an expert has deemed this 'quack etymology'Grin

they admit mistakes, they give well thought-out reasoning for decisions, they're prepared to change their minds having listened to debate, they have a sense of humour and they genuinely seem to care about posters.

Spot on.

I used to think duck tape was an American film prop when I was a child.

My dad brought some home one day and my brothers and I thought it was brilliant, we asked if we could tape our mouths up like on TV.

We were strange children.

They're wonderful, fantastic and excellent. They are also extremely tolerant of whiny pains in the arse. If it were me I'd just delete the whingy fuckers.

Wall plugs for me unless I'm gargling water when I say it.
