I know...I KNOW...I need a life Grin. But AIBU to think the lie detector results are bullshit?

If someone is wankered enough to have a blackout, and not remember whether they had s/c or kissed someone else, surely they would be telling the truth, as far as they were aware? So is this actually a valid excuse?

Disclaimer: I'm working as well as watching. It's on in the background while I snuggle under the duvet with my laptop work in my very organized designated work area

I don't think posting comments insulting the intellect or appearance of the guests is a great thing to do tbh.

Some of the comments are pretty grim.

JK is like the X Factor and all the other Bedlam inspired modern programmes. And it's a fine line between pointing out that they use people with LD to entertain people and criticising those people.

Skweeki · 07/10/2016 17:23

noeuf I think I started that. Apologies for any offence. Smile

No problem it's really easy and I am a bit too censorious sometimes

PortiaCastis · 07/10/2016 17:37

Disgusting programme, it shouldn't be allowed air time Given the amount of money they pay people to go on it and others sneering at them, it's an awful insight into the lower limits of the media bottom feeders. I've only watched it a couple of times and got the feling it was scripted so didn't bother again

AntheaBelveden · 07/10/2016 19:12

I have a friend who has worked as an appropriate adult for the police. When an adult is arrested and is vulnerable in one way or another (usually learning difficulties or mental health issues) she sits in on interviews to ensure that they understand what is happening and that their vulnerabilities are not taken advantage of.

She thinks that at least half the people who appear on JK would fit in this criteria and whatever contracts or agreements guests sign with the producers wouldn't be legally binding.

There have been shows that cannot be repeated due to complaints about vulnerable guests.

JK is similar to those benefits shows, exploiting vulnerable members of society so others can feel better about their own lives.

NotYoda · 07/10/2016 19:17

The all important*lie detector results are, Imo one of the worst aspect of JK. They are notoriously unreliable. I think it's something like 65% reliability.

The other think is the way they ramp up the emotional temperature at any moment when people seem to be coming to a resolution - introducing a new guest with some loud bombastic music to get everyone riled again

On a more trivial note, it's amazing what some people consider a fetching outfit to appear on TV in.

NotYoda · 07/10/2016 19:18

Anthea

I agree

I think many of the people on there are very vulnerable - mental health problems, learning difficulties, serially abused etc etc

PortiaCastis · 07/10/2016 19:19

It's amazing what people will watch so they can look down on others

NotYoda · 07/10/2016 19:20

Actually, more that JK, it's Graham who should be ashamed of himself. He's complicit. I think he's attempting to put a sticking plaster over a very nasty wound. How he can be in the same room as JK I don't know

ghostspirit · 07/10/2016 19:45

get me how he tells every other guest to get a job. he proper shit stirs as well.

MrsJayy · 07/10/2016 19:57

Our he shouts i would walk a 100 miles to see my kid really jeremy lets just rile them up some more

oldbirdy · 07/10/2016 20:11

One of the most vulnerable women I ever worked with had been on Jeremy Kyle. She clearly had significant learning difficulties and was in a relationship with domestic abuse and two kids with severe learning difficulties. In my professional capacity where it was important she understood the information I was telling her, one of the care workers at her children's nursery sat in our meeting so she could explain and remind her afterwards. I later heard she lost custody of the children. I have never watched JK since. This woman was clearly of low intellect, and struggling in many aspects of her life, and had experienced abuse locally since appearing on JK. It was disgusting of the show to use her like that.

PortiaCastis · 07/10/2016 20:56

Absolutely old birdy and that should not be allowed. Its crass and demeaning to pick on vulnerable people by offering cash.

Skweeki · 07/10/2016 21:20

oldbirdy that's terrible! Sad

OP posts:
AntheaBelveden · 07/10/2016 21:29

oldbirdy that is very sad but unfortunately not very surprising.

You have to wonder whether the people who work on the show ever have a crisis of conscience.

Meeting someone like the lady you worked with and being prepared to humiliate them on national t.v. without a thought about anything but ratings?

Doing dodgy lie detector tests that can leave lives in ruins?

How do these people sleep at night?

KungFuPandaWorksOut · 07/10/2016 21:30

It's my guilty pleasure and I always record it Blush and ive gone too watch it in the studio BlushBlush
I love the ones where jezza is proven wrong (very rare these days but back when it first started he got it wrong quite a bit - which leads me to now believe he knows the results)

SaturdaySurprise · 07/10/2016 21:40

I saw an episode a few days ago at the gym with no sound and subtitles on.

I hated the way he says "so he stole your bird. Your bird had sex with your best mate." Bird? Is this 1965?

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 07/10/2016 21:41

I agree that a lie detector couldn't possibly work if someone genuinely couldn't remember what had happened, because in those circumstances they couldn't possibly lie about it and wouldn't produce the reaction that the lie detector picks up. But they are not reliable anyway.

hopetobehappy · 07/10/2016 21:51

Does anyone else think that Graham is a waste of time., and why has he always got a pen in his hand. I've never seen him use it.

ghostspirit · 07/10/2016 21:55

he comes across to me like he would be quite abusive in a realationship.

he also comes across as fake in that medical programe he does

MrGrumpy01 · 07/10/2016 22:15

He has no idea how pregnancy dating works, so girl will come on and say 'I am 6 wks pregnant.......we had sex 4 wks ago' to which he will retort that boy can't possibly be the father if they only had sex 4 wks ago as she would therefore be 4 wks pregnant. Hmm

but the classic was a man claiming he couldn't possibly be the father as he had blue eyes and the baby has brown eyes. Even when the mum walked in with bright brown eyes JK didn't correct him.

He seems to get pleasure from giving out total misinformation (about pretty basic pregnancy related matters)

ghostspirit · 07/10/2016 22:18

ha yeah i have seen the pregnancy ones. muppet. would have thought someone would explain how it works.

hopetobehappy · 07/10/2016 22:20

JK was on Loose Women the other week. He came across as cocky and very full of himself.

PopsyDaisy2207 · 07/10/2016 22:49

What I find more unbelievable is that people, when having some form of disagreement, actually say 'we've gotta go on jezza kyle to get us a lie detector done'
What the actual hell?

Makes for bloody good tv viewing though

Especially man with 3 black teeth shagging umpteen (relatively) good looking girls.

What the actual hell x2?! 😂😂

hopetobehappy · 07/10/2016 22:55

Wonder if they get told not to clean their teeth to go on the show.
