I know...I KNOW...I need a life Grin. But AIBU to think the lie detector results are bullshit?

If someone is wankered enough to have a blackout, and not remember whether they had s/c or kissed someone else, surely they would be telling the truth, as far as they were aware? So is this actually a valid excuse?

Disclaimer: I'm working as well as watching. It's on in the background while I snuggle under the duvet with my laptop work in my very organized designated work area

cock I think some people genuinely view him as the world's best therapist and they also enjoy the free hotel for a nightWineGrin

ObscureThing · 07/10/2016 11:24

You get a free hotel for a night or two, plus plied with booze - a friend of mine was a runner for ITV studios. Basically the night before they are on the show they get them nice and pished, wind 'em up and watch them go.

Longlost10 · 07/10/2016 11:35

His DNA results are unreliable to. You can't get a false positive, but you can get a false negative

CrazyNameCrazyGuy · 07/10/2016 11:40

I work with very vulnerable people and most of them want to be 'guests' on Jeremy Kyle Sad I dread to think what would happen to them if they appeared on stage with that vulture.

Benedikte2 · 07/10/2016 11:51

I met a woman who went on the Show. She was very proud of it and had a recording which was really cringeworthy. Said she and her DM (they didn't get on) were given makeovers though to look at most of the participants you wouldn't think it was usual practice.

MrsJayy · 07/10/2016 11:54

Somebody whos face i knew was on it somebody had stole her man her man was an ugly fecker 😂

Skweeki · 07/10/2016 11:59

Christ in an Audi...the DNA tests too??? I mean, I do find the lie detector tests funny, and obviously I'm dubious- hence the post- but I thought the DNA tests came from another company or something?

I remember one guest (she was featured on one of the JK promos, ginger hair, glasses, a southern accent iirc) who had a "not the father" result. Jeremy Vile then said something along the lines of "you can't get pregnant without intercourse". Erm...hellooooo! I'm no expert, but I was taught the complete opposite in sex-ed lessons at school one of the few bits that filtered through while I was sniggering at the back. Did he send off cornflake packet coupons for his "Expert in biology" certificate?

Buggar me gently...that was an essay! Sorry!

Oh, and ty for the EV definition.

I've always wondered that. It says they're not 100% so what if when someone says it's wrong they could actually be telling the truth. In a lot of cases though you can tell it's right as they don't deny it, fight back or anything.

I've read that they get the guests worked up. It wouldn't surprise me if they change the lie detector results to make it more interesting for TV. I think I'd want an actual professional lie detector done afterwards.

MadHattersWineParty · 07/10/2016 12:10

I had a mate who worked as a researcher on JK.

Did you know they make the couple stay in separate hotel rooms when they get to Manchester and then feed them shite that the other is supposed to have said about them to get them all riled up? Also they lie about the pick up times for the studio so they say be ready for 9am and then haul them out of bed at 7 so they'll look shit and unwashed.

MagikarpetRide · 07/10/2016 12:17

I always get riled when he asked why she didn't put his name on the birth certificate but won't accept the explanation that he didn't turn up. If you're not married you can't put anyone's name down randomly as I discovered when I tried to register my dc's dad as George Clooney Grin

Thatsmeinthecorner2016 · 07/10/2016 12:20

You only have to have a good at the people they invite to the show. Intelligence and education doesn't figure high on the list of selection criteria which is quite understandable because the guests are just a cannon fodder for the audience expecting entertainment.
I won't pretend that I'm a saint and I have watched my share of JK Show but there's always a part of me that dislikes even my own interest and amusement about it.

Raffles1981 · 07/10/2016 12:33

SuperFlyHigh, I heard that each guest gets £300 per episode and a free night in the hotel, with meal and drinks included. No wonder its full of the stereotypical morons this country is associated with.

AntheaBelveden · 07/10/2016 12:34

Magik that really winds me up too, you can't just name anyone!

One thing that always annoys me is when female guests claim to be pregnant, take a test that's negative and then say they miscarried the previous day. The test will be positive the day after a miscarriage, the pregnancy hormones are still in the system!

Agree about the absolute bullshit lie detector tests. The disclaimer says that practitioners claim the tests are 85% accurate.

They would say that, they're making money out of it!

We had a go with a polygraph machine at uni. I lied through my teeth and passed with flying colours so it's either bullshit or I'm a psychopath.

I haven't watched it for a long time, I became really uncomfortable with the amount of guests who clearly had quite severe learning difficulties being manipulated and exploited to create 'entertainment'.

SuperFlyHigh · 07/10/2016 13:00

Raffles

I am sure they don't go on 'for free' and am sure they embellish their stories. £300 to them must be amazing...

still at least it's better than Tricia who paid actors to go on - or one of those shows it said they did!

Did you ever see Vivien Vyle a take off of Jezza?

Skweeki · 07/10/2016 13:10

Oh HOWLING at this now!!!! Better than SEO optimizing which I'm already way behind on and more entertaining than Jeremy Kyle any day! 😁😁😁

Did anyone see the "who shat in my fridge" episode the week before last?

HarleyQuinzel · 07/10/2016 13:16

I've always wanted to try a lie detector. No idea why.

A girl I used to work with had a cousin going on it and she seemed very proud, told everyone at work like she was some sort of celeb.Confused

How many times does he say his own name, per episode? At least 30. "YES, WE KNOW YOU ARE JEREMY KYLE".

IKnowIKNOW · 07/10/2016 14:00

I'm convinced that the producers fabricate the lie detector results depending on what will make the guests kick off the most and therefore make for the best episode.

Jeremy Kyle is absolutely base and gross. I don't see how he can claim to be 'helping' the people on his show when he so obviously dislikes them and judges intensely.

I watched it a lot when I was a student but I can't stand it now.

e1y1 · 07/10/2016 14:34

He's a knob, but it's my guilty pleasure when I can catch it.

No self respecting person would seriously consider going on there though, there's a difference between airing your dirty laundry in public and doing the entire fucking wash cycle.

CrazyNameCrazyGuy · 07/10/2016 15:15

On the rare occasions I watch it I'm always agog at how some of the men and women get even one partner, let lone multiple ones Confused

A case in point below. I know she's apparently been on JK 4 times but there's something eerily familiar about this beast woman. I'm really hoping I haven't seen her out and about in real life Shock

Skweeki · 07/10/2016 15:38

There's a woman who's been on there about 57 times! It's like "Smileys or Waffles this week? Better call up the Jez hotline and let him sort it".

And CNCG we could argue that it's a positive. Proof that you can be a feckless assnuggeting munter with white sports socks sewn to the bottom of your joggers, and you can still pull! Wink
