Other than that, boiled potatoes are just evil.

I live for roast potatoes, mashed with butter and salt, chips, wedges...baked....all my faves.

But put a big boiled potato on my plate...then...no. Just no.

DH loves them. I usually cook so never make them unless there are nice new potatoes available.

He's cooking now...chicken breasts and fucking boiled potatoes.

AIBU? I don't know if he's attempting a gravy or anything.

OMG. Unless new potatoes, how can you eat them? I am with you! New potatoes with salt, butter and mint/Olive oil and Rosemary. Yum! YANBU about plain old regular ones.

YABU They can be lovely with some cold butter, salt and pepper. Failing that, mash them up on your plate with your fork and add your butter then. Maybe your DH will get the hint and do mash for you next time. Enjoy your supper.

Yeah I agree they are shite. A new potato/ jersey royal / salad potato I will accept boiled though.

YANBU. I'll eat them as long as it's with a strong enough sauce that it doesn't taste like a boiled potato, and even then I have to force them down. I also don't really like mash - it's just mushed up boiled potato.

I hate them all. In 100 years' time, people will look back and say, 'we used to eat potatoes BOILED???!!! I need a lie-down.'

Try and distract him from the kitchen so they over-cook. Then you can "rescue" them by turning them into yummy mash with lots of butter.

YANBU. Boiled new potatoes are lovely. Boiled old floury potatoes are awful. And I am a huge potato fiend.

Mashed potatoes, after all, are just boiled potatoes.

I'm I the only one who think new potatoes taste vile? As long as a boiled potato is seasoned, I don't think it's awful. Adding butter is horrid though, turns it into oily slop (unless on a well baked potato). Growing up, we had buttered potatoes to go with Sunday roast - an unholy abomination to go with gravy! I like a bit of cheese sauce with plain potatoes and chicken/pork. I eat a lot of spicy food though, so a bit of 'blandness' breaks up the week.

Fond memories here of plain boiled potatoes cut in half with slices of proper butter and proper cheese slotted in and topped with oatmeal sprinkled on top. May have that this week actually, not had for years!

But yes, naked boiled potatoes are a bit pishe!

They are not that great on their own, but with a proper stew and gravy they are fine. Other than that put butter on them, or turn them into mash.

No, YABU. Lovely waxy potatoes boiled with plenty of salt and maybe a bit of mint are delicious, particularly with baked ham or cold chicken. Floury potatoes should be mashed, I agree though.

Ew no, not unreasonable. They just bring back memories of horrible school meals. Tasteless mince and boiled potatoes was a regular feature at my school, and I am pretty sure I have not eaten them since then!
