To think boiled potatoes are shite?

Apart from beautiful new ones...Cheshire's preferably.

Other than that, boiled potatoes are just evil.

I live for roast potatoes, mashed with butter and salt, chips, wedges...baked....all my faves.

But put a big boiled potato on my plate...then...no. Just no.

DH loves them. I usually cook so never make them unless there are nice new potatoes available.

He's cooking now...chicken breasts and fucking boiled potatoes.

AIBU? I don't know if he's attempting a gravy or anything.

Ahh all this talk of butter on potatoes is getting to me!

I developed a dairy ( and other) allergy three/four years ago.
Will try mashing with olive oil thanks. I usually do them with almond milk and a blob of DF marg...not the same 😨

Mitty that made me laugh:)

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 14/09/2016 16:37

Oh Sabine so glad I'm not the only new potato hater.

OliviaStabler · 14/09/2016 18:44

I don't understand why anyone would not mash spuds or do others tings with them. Boiled potatoes are dry and boring.

iklboo · 14/09/2016 18:49

My mum once made liver and boiled potatoes served with a boiled onion. A whole boiled onion. Mega, super, ultra boak. Even my dad wouldn't eat it.

Chickpeachick0 · 14/09/2016 18:50

My Irish friends inform me that only potatoes that look iffy are mashed / roasted !
I love a nice boiled Potatoe . Love roasts , hate mash .

n0ne · 14/09/2016 18:50

YADNBU - boiled potatoes, unless they're lovely, skin-on new potatoes, are utter shite. DH also makes them quite often, hulking great buggers, and I can barely choke them down. Def mash with a fork.

anyoldname76 · 14/09/2016 18:51

boiled potatoes are just a lump of bland stodge

ErrolTheDragon · 14/09/2016 18:54

This thread reminds me of my mum's cooking. Boiled spuds with fish poached in milk. (Sometimes with bouquet garni to be fancy). Mince cooked in the oven sometimes with the spuds in (at least they tasted of something that way). Not really her fault, teenager during ww2, rationing continued for years after. She could make a cracking Yorkshire pud though.

Skiver123 · 14/09/2016 18:55

Microwave a big potatoe. Cut it in half, butter each half and put a big wedge of cheese in the middle of the two halves like a sandwich. Microwave until cheese melts. Let it cool. Squash between hands like a burger and eat like a sandwich! Great stuff 😋

PumpkinPie9 · 14/09/2016 18:55

Agreed op

oldlaundbooth · 14/09/2016 18:56

Thye always look so Eastern Bloc to me.

PitchFork · 14/09/2016 18:56

yabu
they are lovely
you need the waxy kind though and boil them in salty water.
yum

annielostit · 14/09/2016 18:57

Sorry but potatoes cooked anyway are yummy - with the extra butter for good measure....... now what's really shite it's the cauliflower "rice" that is in fashion????
If I want rice I'll have rice in grains not bloody minced up cauliflower 😠

user1471700951 · 14/09/2016 19:03

Mmmm boiled spuds with butter and salt yummy.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/09/2016 19:55

I HATE mash; I HATE butter and all its ilk
I love plain boiled or baked potatoes with skin, optionally with olive oil & rosemary.
I just like something solid to chew, not sloppy goo < shudders >

PunkrockerGirl · 14/09/2016 20:01

Yanbu. Boring as fuck.
Mil serves them with every single meal. Just grim.
No salt, pepper, herbs or spices have ever crossed their threshold Grin

MostlyHet · 14/09/2016 20:05

Decent potatoes and steam them rather than boil them.

MostlyHet · 14/09/2016 20:07

Errol are you my long lost twin? 'Cos we definitely have the same mother!

HardleyWorthit · 14/09/2016 20:11

YABU!

Boiled potatoes and a shit ton of salt = heaven.

Andylion · 14/09/2016 20:13

Nothing helps a hangover better than a cold, boiled potato with just a little salt and pepper.

tupperwareAARGGH · 14/09/2016 20:18

Butter and salad cream yum yum yum

BennyTheBall · 14/09/2016 20:20

Yuck - they remind me of my childhood. Plain boiled potatoes on the side of most meals. Bleurgh.

In fact, my childhood has given me an aversion to potatoes.

MeAndMy3LovelyBoys · 14/09/2016 20:23

They are lush with salad cream. Mmmmm

BolshierAryaStark · 14/09/2016 20:25

YABVU, boiled potatoes with salt, Hendersons & gravy are bloody lush.

CheshireChat · 14/09/2016 20:52

Boiled potatoes with sour cream- YUM! And maybe steamed with steamed fish.

Just want to point out I'm not English so maybe my taste buds are different Wink.
