No - not Cliff Richard - he's more associated with end of 50s rather than beginning. (This should narrow it down. It obviously isn't Frankie Laine)

I've just looked him up Robotic as wasn't that familiar with him - yes I can definitely see the attraction!

I think Elton John sort of sums this up in his line from 'Candle in the Wind'
