Nice wholesome decade - with not a mobile phone in sight.

I wish I could have known him then...

I'm in love with a German film star I once saw in a movie. Mwahaha.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/08/2016 21:48

Hehe User GrinI remember playing the single of Silver Lady on a loop on my dad's record player until he came in and tore the needle off the record, shouting at David to stay the hell in Indiana and leave us alone!!! GrinGrin

timelytess · 09/08/2016 21:51

It IS Adam Faith
Oh no, you're not wrong. He was hot. I could tell, and I was just a little girl. That was in the sixties, he was in television series.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/08/2016 21:52

Is he Was??ShockShock

Another crush was David Cassidy (I honestly don't have a thing for Davids). He was so beautiful....I have been watching The Partridge Family on DVD recently and I can't decide who was more gorgeous....him or Susan Dey.

But then I saw him in concert....WHAT a colossal prat! Sad

ThePortlyPinUp · 09/08/2016 21:58

Yay I was right about something Grin

user1466795981 · 09/08/2016 22:23

LastGirl - haha @your Dad!!

timelytess - didn't realise he was on TV in the 60s - I remember him being in a 90s TV series

Adam Faith was the star in Budgie, think that was 70's. He was gorgeous then too.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/08/2016 22:29

Dad was so funny...just such a gruff but humorous man all the same!!! If he wanted to scold us, he wouldn't ever direct it TO us, but just mention something jokey-wise. But on the odd occasion he DID raise his voice to us, we sure listened!!!!!

The Silver Lady joke is one I remember very fondly.

user1466795981 · 09/08/2016 22:34

beelover - Budgie rings a bell

LastGirl - I was 4 (nearly 5) when Silver Lady came out...I can remember taking the lyrics literally as you would at that age and the line in it:

"Here I am a million miles from home" - I was about 5 years old wondering what this would be like and trying to get my head around it as I took it very literally !! (very philosophical!!!)

Haha....that would have to be a few times around the world? Grin It is such a great song, and David Soul was one beautiful blond man!! I think though Paul Michael Glaser has aged better and is actually kind of hot!!!!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 09/08/2016 22:39

Adam Faith had the best last words ever:

"Channel 5 is all shit, isn't it? Christ, the crap they put on there. It's a waste of space"

And then pegged out.

Sunnymeg · 09/08/2016 22:49

I met Adam Faith when I was about 12 in the 1970's. I was in a cafe with my Aunt in London and he walked in. My aunt, who could talk to anyone struck up a conversation with him. He had an amazing fur trimmed coat on, which is mainly what I remember .

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 09/08/2016 22:51

A bit more recent, but Michael Praed circa 1982 would get it every time.

Might have been the seventies when I saw him, but not as late as the nineties. I was someone's mum by then. dd was old enough to fancy blokes off the telly...

Bloopbleep · 09/08/2016 23:06

This looks identical to a post about having a crush about an 80s pop star a while back when I was a mere lurker. Like word for word. I thought it odd then...

user1466795981 · 10/08/2016 07:10

Bloopbleep - yes I can remember reading that thread and thinking - I've got a crush on a popstar too - just from a different decade! The 1950s seemed more wholesome than the 1980s. Or was that just on the surface?

I love James Cagney in the 1930's.

I also had a huge crush on all the Monkees in their prime in the late 60's TV show. When I was watching them in the summer holidays in the 80's they were all probably still quite young and good looking, but the mini beauty of Davy Jones in 1967 shall never be surpassed.

TheNumberfaker · 10/08/2016 09:05

I remember crying myself to sleep one night in the 80s when I realised that The Monkees was a rerun of a 60s show and therefore Davy Jones was 28 years older than me Shock gutted!!

user1466795981 · 10/08/2016 09:05

Sunnymeg - oh gosh that's a great claim to fame!

GoEasyPudding - I watched the Monkees in the 80s as well - I wasn't born in '67 so the 80s show was how I familiarised myself with them.

I remember him in Budgie - my brother had a Budgie jacket! I also liked him in Love Hurts (with Zoe Wannamaker) - which was much later. He was older then but very attractive.

To have a crush on a 1950s pop star??

kaitlinktm · 10/08/2016 10:02

Oops - just realised that should be Wanamaker - sorry Zoe. Wink

user1466795981 · 10/08/2016 10:05

Oh thanks kaitlin for uploading those photos !! I definitely remember 'Love Hurts' - but not 'Budgie' - although I've heard of the show by name.

OP posts:
kaitlinktm · 10/08/2016 18:57

I remember watching Budgie, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was about (might have a look on You Tube) - just remember those jackets. I wanted one but they were for boys. Sad

Flatbellyfella · 10/08/2016 19:42

Bobby Daren would be my guess at your 1950s crush, he was a fantastic singer.

user1466795981 · 10/08/2016 19:48

No Flatbellyfella - it's Adam Faith! I think I've heard some of Bobby Daren's songs though - but I can't remember any off the top of my head!
