We need to get everyone on this thread's sleep patterns in order. AGL, up an hour earlier every day, set your alarm. Ruby, good sleep hygiene. Read not MN before bed. No screens for two hours before sleep, no caffeine after lunch. MrsTP get a less interesting book

you must be mad!!! I have curbed caffeine intake after dinner (iron bru is my downfall). But from lunch time?!? How can I survive all afternoon without iron bru?

Don't read your book in bed! Seriously. Get your head used to getting into bed and going straight to sleep. The last 20 seconds before you go to bed are crucial. Get into a routine and do exactly the same thing every night. It's OCD, Jim, but it as you know it.

I used to. Now I have alarms set every 5mins on my phone with different tones - getting increasingly irritating. Its far more effective at waking me up. I usually wake up on the second or third one now. Whereas before even with the alarm set not to silence unless I actually turned it off I could sleep through 30-60mins of it on top volume!
