To ask (nicely) that people refrain from using "Hun" and "X" - yes, I know... I'm a grumpy git.

But I've noticed, yet again, an influx of "Huns" and "xx" nonsense.

I can even mentally think of a few culprits.

Sorry.

But I'm grumpy so I want to share the grumpiness.

You know you're going to be inundated with huns and x's now, don't you?

Not just xx, but xXx I have seen! Shock

It's awful.

MaisieDotes · 03/08/2016 00:29

Mentally think Grin

FastWindow · 03/08/2016 00:33

It's the holibobs hun. Just hide all threads till September.

Hth x Grin

Pinkerbeller · 03/08/2016 00:33

Aww, sorry hun! XOXO

(Non-sarcastiscally, I also hate this. I don't kiss people at the end of every sentence in real life so why would I do it online?!)

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/08/2016 00:35

XX might be aggressively feminist.

That's what I intend to translate all kisses as.

Salmotrutta · 03/08/2016 00:35

YY I know MrsJoey.

But I must make a stand.

And I have a banner ... "Down with Huns and Xs"

(Disclaimer: I do know that Hun can mean something other than "honey")

I'm not a complete fool.

OP posts:
LucyBabs · 03/08/2016 00:36

I don't know what the problem is? I don't personally use hun or xx on MN.
I don't "know" anyone here and I only use it with close family and friends.

madein1995 · 03/08/2016 00:37

I always do xx at the end of texts or messages but 'hun' does my head in so YANBU

Salmotrutta · 03/08/2016 00:38

What?

If you don't use "Hun" or "xx" then that's fine LucyBabs.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 03/08/2016 00:41

I only do "xx" when texting my offspring.

Because I know them and love them.

I don't "know" (or love) anyone on MN so don't routinely post "xx".

OP posts:
FastWindow · 03/08/2016 00:41

lucy

'There's no Hunning on MN!'

Gavel Grin

ArmySal · 03/08/2016 00:47

Don't be so tetchy babes xxx

Just5minswithDacre · 03/08/2016 00:47

What's confusing is the posters who end a post with xXx and then apologise and say that they don't know why they did it.

Do they spend most of their days sending affectionate texts? How can it be so ingrained it becomes inadvertent?

GertrudeSmellsDivine · 03/08/2016 00:48

YANBU
When my 50-something, intelligent and generally lovely friend writes about her fabby holibobs with her fabby familam I die a little inside Grin
Still luvs her tho. She's soooo spesh. WinkGrin

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 03/08/2016 00:50

I'll use xxx in a text or message if someone is upset, otherwise no.
I've never used "Hun" in my life - sounds German to me, anyway. And "sweetie" gets my goat as well

Vipermisnomer · 03/08/2016 00:51

ok just get hubby to help you chillax luv xxx

Salmotrutta · 03/08/2016 00:52

familam???

What the hell?

What is a "familam"?

And I blame the evil Sarah Kennedy for fucking "holibobbs".

I was glad when she got sacked left Radio 2.

I remember when she ranted about the oil in her tank and the poor sods people who bought her house.

OP posts:
GertrudeSmellsDivine · 03/08/2016 00:55

I deduced from the FB photos that it must mean family. Shock

Vipermisnomer · 03/08/2016 00:55

Whilst on the subject of things that make teeth itch, what about the entitlement stuff?

Am I the only one who mumbles "no numbnuts, you mean a misplaced sense of entitlement grrr" every time I read about someone being entitled but meant as the opposite meaning blah blah.

Sorry to derail...

ArmySal · 03/08/2016 00:57

Some posters need to learn the meaning of the word goad.

GertrudeSmellsDivine · 03/08/2016 01:00

Ah g'wan Army name namesGrin

ArmySal · 03/08/2016 01:07

Around 40% of posters who shout 'goady fucker' to someone who has a differing opinion to them, with no goading in sight, Gertrude.

littleprincesssara · 03/08/2016 01:10

I was raised on Biggles books, so 'Hun' makes me think ... not good things.
