To give up bras for good?

I am sick to death of uncomfortable, painful, pretty damn unnecessary bras especially in this heat!

I have NEVER found a comfortable bra. Ever! And I can't afford a super pricy one either.

So, I've given up! I've worn a bandeau thing for a tiny bit of nipple coverage for the last week and I'm actually loving bra-free life. My boobs aren't particularly large so I figure I can get away with it - although one of my friends thinks it's incredibly odd and suspects I'm a weirdo .

So I'm wondering - AIBU? And have any of you given up with the hassle?!

I don't wear them in the house. Unfortunately I incline towards large rather than small so wear them outside so as not to scare the horses.

I am unfortunately large of boob and only take my bra off to sleep as otherwise too uncomfortable.

YANBU. I don't wear bras in the house, but outside I can only get away with(out) them if it's at least 3 layers (vest, shirt, jumper), so not in the summer. Wish I could go bra-less all the time though.

I have small breasts and actually never started wearing bras.

The only reason to wear one, as far as I am concerned, is if your breasts are so large that you get back pain or other discomfort if you don't wear a bra.

I stopped wearing bras most of the time back in the winter...it was easier then as I could cover it up. I wore one occasionally if going out.

During the warmer weather I've been flitting between wearing and not...if I'm wearing a vest I will slip over a thin hoody to go to the shops or to school. Its just getting brave to wear thinner tops bra less

How do you feel about shoes OP?

I take it off at home after work sometimes but too jiggly to abandon altogether. I don't want my boobicles round my knees o e day either.

Oh God I soooo envy you...but, as a 34FF I simply can't go bra-less as it's too uncomfortable.

Only find Freya bras are comfy enough, and still pretty, to wear.

I'm of the large boob variety and I've recently started wearing strapless bras every day. I'm finding them sooo much easier to wear, none of that shoulder/neck/back ache thing by the end of the day and no chafing from the straps on my armpit podges. I think I have better posture in strapless too as I'm not hunching over due to bra-ache.

Even if you are small boobed your breasts will sag in time if they are unsupported. Boobs have no natural support at all.

I gave up "proper" bras last year. I have a few crop tops or whatever they are called and they are soooo comfy. My boobs are tiny and have already sagged due to my delightful children so I'm not really bothered.

I have uneven, weird shaped and small boobs with quite a broad back, i have struggled for years and had numerous intervention threads. The only bra that has ever fitted me was 163 quid from Rigby and Peller

So i started wearing these . They are really comfortable, offer nipple coverage and a little shape with no digging in and discomfort. I don't need much support so they are great for me.

I gave up bras 3 years ago. It was fantastic. I am a b cup so not huge - I think it's really hard if you've got a big chest. At first I found that they jiggled around when I walked or cycled, then I think my posture changed/improved because that doesn't happen any more. I wear a camisole if I've got something gauzy on and occasionally do wear bras if I'm wearing something very tight but I have to say that going braless is so comfortable and really liberating. I couldn't go back now to wearing them every day. I think my breasts have definitely got perkier now, whatever anyone says! also, I used to worry a bit about people noticing. I really don't think that they do. I have never had any comments or funny stares. Do it for a month and you'll never go back.

I never wear a bra at home. I have small boobs but visible post bf nipples so for work I wear one of these

If I didn't have huge boobs I'd be doing the same OP! Very jealous of your bra free life!

Wow, thanks for the replies folks and I'm glad the consensus seems to be INBU (and also not a weirdo as my friend suggested! )

Mrs, that is one expensive bra! But worth it if it gives you some comfort.

I can definitely agree that for bigger ladies it's not particularly comfortable nor practical to go without - I'm just sick and bloody tired of the impossible things! I also read somewhere that the sagging thing is a bit of a myth as your boob muscles have to work harder?

I'm a double A, even after breastfeeding 2 children for 3yrs each they still look like pre pubesent lumps! I don't wear a bra. But I do wear a tight cami or bikini top as my boobs are pointy!

There are no boob muscles. There are things called Cooper's ligaments which don't "work" or tone up or anything like that, unfortunately.
But apparently all breasts sag at a similar rate irrespective of bra wearing.

Eye, thanks for sharing your experience. I've only been doing it for a week or so but I can see myself being a convert. I'll probably end up reluctantly donning one if I'm wearing anything going-outty/low cut, but otherwise I'm pleasantly surprised. For years I've been frustrated with shoulder/back pain, itching, tugging at the bloody things, it never occurred to me to just NOT wear one!

They'll sag anyway regardless of whether you wear a bra or not. And who cares? If you get to 80 and want them to look full? Stick on a wonder-bra.

I am a 32E and have started wearing those hookless and wireless bras. They are a stretchy fabric with very thin inserts for a bit of nipple coverage. I get them in asda or peacocks. Far comfier than cups and wires. They actually remind me of my first bras that werent really necessary.

I've never really worn a bra except when breastfeeding and now when I do exercise (too much bouncing!). I hate the feeling of the straps around my ribs. It is definitely an unconventional thing to do and I think that people do notice, so you have to be OK with occasionally feeling self conscious. I'm in the C/D cup range depending on the rules, but on quite a big frame, so not really very busty.

Personal preference innit.

Mine have long seen better days so I like to wear at least a crop top at all times or they flobble about all over the shop and bunch up in my armpits when I lay down.

YANBU! Infact I am jealous, there's no way I could go bra-less Even having them loose in pyjamas is uncomfortable due to how heavy they are. Enjoy your freedom!
