To give up bras for good?

BleakBetty · 18/07/2016 21:26

I am sick to death of uncomfortable, painful, pretty damn unnecessary bras especially in this heat!

I have NEVER found a comfortable bra. Ever! And I can't afford a super pricy one either.

So, I've given up! I've worn a bandeau thing for a tiny bit of nipple coverage for the last week and I'm actually loving bra-free life. My boobs aren't particularly large so I figure I can get away with it - although one of my friends thinks it's incredibly odd and suspects I'm a weirdo Grin.

So I'm wondering - AIBU? And have any of you given up with the hassle?!

YANBU- they're your breasts!

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 19/07/2016 17:22

I wish I could but they would be bouncing off my knees as I walked.

Like a weird game of keepy- uppy I suppose.

queenMab99 · 19/07/2016 17:25

I too got sick of the discomfort, by the end of the day, it was such a pleasure to remove it. I discovered some really soft, sort of crop top things in 'Morrisons' for £5! They keep me decent, although they do nothing for my shape Smile, but I am past caring, and I am living in blissful comfort!

CatHerdingForKicks · 19/07/2016 17:33

Yanbu I hate bras... I can get away with thin crop top or built in bit in summer... winter i go for tight vests under everything (backfat smoothers) the pendulous jiggle however still feels too naughty to have nothing! The bra preventing sagging thing however is rubbish (they just finished a 20 yr study) and it was the opposite (they were the French I think) 🤔👍

fadingfast · 19/07/2016 17:35

For anyone looking for a comfortable bra, try this one:
m.johnlewis.com/triumph-supersoft-underwired-t-shirt-bra/p/47335?sku=231053951&kpid=231053951&s_kenid=4f992846-d2b6-4246-a9ca-8510f7ed0d42&s_kwcid=404x2904359&tmad=c&tmcampid=73
It's the Triumph super soft t-shirt bra, in case the link hasn't worked. When I first tried it (10 years ago Shock) the shop assistant told me that once I'd worn it, I'd never want to wear any other bra, and she was right! Gives you a nice shape too.

AppleSetsSail · 19/07/2016 17:36

I now wear camisoles with bra support from the Gap and I've never looked back.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 19/07/2016 17:40

If I don't wear one I can tuck mine into my socks...

Graceflorrick · 19/07/2016 17:45

I have recently abandoned conventional underwire bras.

I bought 15 of these m&s ones in lots of different colours. I'm never going back to bras Grin

Sallystyle · 19/07/2016 17:45

I have.

It's wonderful.

But I'm small chested. I might wear the one I have if a top is more see-through and nothing else works but it's very rare.

Sallystyle · 19/07/2016 17:47

Oh and five kids later they haven't sagged yet.

TickettyBoo · 19/07/2016 17:51

Yanbu - I'm envious, I'd need more than a bandeau to keep mine in check! 😂😂

TrionicLettuce · 19/07/2016 17:52

I'm a 36GG (post reduction) and I've recently ditched bras. I'm much happier and more comfortable without them, it's awesome Grin

Libitina · 19/07/2016 17:55

38G here so I wear one out of the house to reduce the likelihood of black eyes for both me and the general public. It comes off as soon as I get home though.

Amummyatlast · 19/07/2016 17:58

I'm small chested and take it off as soon as I get home. But on the odd occasion that I have forgotten to put it back on before leaving the house, I have felt (physically) uncomfortable, so I don't think I'll be going physically bra less anytime soon. I also have a better shape when wearing a bra.

gerbo · 19/07/2016 18:02

So glad to find this thread! My boobs are tiny, especially post breast feeding, and even a Marks and Sparks 34AA was too big. I was wearing those moulded tshirt bras and it was comical how it would sit there rigid and be totally empty inside!

So.....a couple of months ago I went braless, and it's def liberating. I have the M&S lacy crop top x 2 and they serve me really well. They're pretty and feminine but essentially just a crop top. When it was cooler I wore a silky cream or black camisole under tops and yes, it felt great.

Better to strip off wearing a pretty comfortable camisole than an ill fitting bra when it's totally unnecessary.

My boobs were made saggy by feeding two children and frankly I couldn't care less if they sag more. So.......go for it, OP!

NaraDeer · 19/07/2016 18:03

I live in Genie Bras. Totally hideous but they are so comfortable I forget I have anything on.

user7755 · 19/07/2016 18:03

Jackieandhyde - I have no idea what you are talking about but that sounds like it might be a compromise. I can't go without - to swingy but they're so uncomfortable.

weepat · 19/07/2016 18:07

As a 32 J i wouldnt dream of going without a bra. To much dangle & bounce!! Also i actually find it painful when braless for long periods of time. The undersweat factor is terrible.
Good quality well fitting bras can be found online for under £ 20 each.
Best thing i ever did was go into an independent lingerie shop for a fitting. Walked in wearing 38DD(mesured at a well known high street store) & left wearing 30HH. This was years ago .ive put weight on since the current 32J.
Knowing your size is the key.
But if you are comfortable braless. GO FOR IT.

Idoneapoo · 19/07/2016 18:12

I have ginormous spaniels ears which are beyond the help of any bra now and I rarely wear one anywhere. If i must, its usually a soft cup which does nothing to disguise the fact that one of my boobs is 2 sizes bigger than another. I could not give less of a shit. Im also hairy of armpit, morbidly obese and go out and about make-up less. And yet I still get to have sex at least once a week despite being a hag. Neither of us wishes to wear a paper bag. its really liberating letting go of that very last fuck and just getting on with living :-D

LockedOutOfMN · 19/07/2016 18:25

BleakBetty, no you're not being unreasonable at all! Go for it!

Have you tried wearing a bikini top instead? Like a triangle bikini

My sister does this as she hates bras. She says she can tolerate wearing a bikini top (as a bra) when out of the house, but whips it off on the doorstep without fail. It's weird because we're more or less exactly the same shape and similar in size (she is a bit thinner than me...I put it down to her being 9 years younger and then carry on eating my pie) and I really have never minded wearing bras and often sleep in mine.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 19/07/2016 18:28

I don't blame you OP why not.
I can't get away with it unfortunately, too uncomfortable without. I wear these in the house/bed though and outside sometimes.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 19/07/2016 18:30

oops, the £3 ones are out of stock Sad

NeedACleverNN · 19/07/2016 18:32

I stopped wearing my bra after I had my children and they went back to normal size.

Love not wearing one. Haven't worn one now for a long time

Howlongtillbedtime · 19/07/2016 18:36

But where would I put my fitbit one ?

An actual real worry .

Eliza22 · 19/07/2016 18:36

Oh God, wish I could give them up. Am 36D. And 54. Not a good look.
