To give up bras for good?

BleakBetty · 18/07/2016 21:26

I am sick to death of uncomfortable, painful, pretty damn unnecessary bras especially in this heat!

I have NEVER found a comfortable bra. Ever! And I can't afford a super pricy one either.

So, I've given up! I've worn a bandeau thing for a tiny bit of nipple coverage for the last week and I'm actually loving bra-free life. My boobs aren't particularly large so I figure I can get away with it - although one of my friends thinks it's incredibly odd and suspects I'm a weirdo Grin.

So I'm wondering - AIBU? And have any of you given up with the hassle?!

SnipSnip Grin at keepy uppy!

I am a medium size and don't find underwired bras uncomfortable. I don't want to end up with boobs so long and saggy that I can breastfeed a baby in a back sling.

AppleJac · 19/07/2016 18:44

Im a 36G and wear bras from Bravissimo and im fitted everytime i buy one and they are very uncomfortable on me.

Its the wires that sit underneath the cup that digs in and leaves very red angry marks when i take them off

ample · 19/07/2016 18:59

Good grief no, my knees would chafe Grin

hollieberrie · 19/07/2016 19:08

Yanbu, I havent worn one for years.

I've always hated them - in winter i dont wear one at all, in summer just a bralette type thing - i have a few nice simple ones from American Apparel and Fat Face. I actually prefer this look to the hoiked up, sticking out one - i'm all about embracing my flat-chestedness rather than trying to disguise it with padding and wiring and god knows what. I appreciate its different if youre large of nork and need the support, but in my case those padded, cleavagey bras just make me feel like a fake, failure of a woman.

Liking the look of the DKNY one, thanks MrsKoala, will check it out.

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 19/07/2016 19:12

I'd love to go bra free, but if I wore a dress, people might just think I was a man and my balls were showing! 😈

Toefluff12 · 19/07/2016 19:26

I have small but saggy boobs so get terrible boob seat without a bra.. wish I could go without.

Marylou2 · 19/07/2016 19:39

Definitely give them up if you can get away with it OP. Due to considerable boobage I can no more consider giving up bras than I could giving up oxygen.

CatchIt · 19/07/2016 19:41

I was going to post something along these lines. I hate wearing bras and am grateful that I don't have massive boobs. I've pretty much stopped wearing them 4 years ago and only really wear one when I have to.

I feel so liberated because they are just so uncomfortable regardless of the size.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 19/07/2016 19:42

After years of enormo boobs, I had a reduction last year due to crippling backache.

The backache has completely resolved, and the utter utter bliss of not having to be strapped up tightly to keep them under control. It's heaven, especially in this weather.

ridingsixwhitehorses · 19/07/2016 20:18

I stopped wearing bras in all three of my pregnancies though started again once the babies were born. It was great. I often take them off at home now.

Givemestrengthorwine · 19/07/2016 20:19

Being large in the boobage department i have really strugled over the years to find well fitting and comfortable bras. They are a must at work (a secondary school!!!!!!) but as soon as i am home its off! Get mine online from Brastop, but always in the sale! X

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 19/07/2016 20:58

I have massive tits and recently bought a soft cup bra at TU in sainsburys, I got a large and it was too big so got a medium and its bliss, thick but stretchy, comfy and no hooks or fiddly straps. its not the greatest for shape, moulds to boob shape so soft and roundy not hoisted to chin and pinty but its great for some support but a no bra feel without saggy boobs. here

MaQueen · 19/07/2016 21:11

After years of being wrongly fitted at M&S, it was a revelation when I got fitted at Bravisimo. The fitter just laughed when she saw I'd been wearing a 36C bra.

Within minutes she had me in a 34FF balcony bra and my figure was totally transformed - my boobs were 3 inches higher, my torso looked longer and leaner and I had a waist again.

whois · 19/07/2016 21:17

I've got tiny boobs and go without at home. I love wearing string tie bikini tops in the summer for nipple coverage, so comfy. Would love to go without totally but nipples stick out quite a lot.

jamdonut · 19/07/2016 21:19

I've been wearing Avon the One Bra (which is like a crop top) for over a year now..
It is so much more comfortable than a proper bra. I' m quite a big girl, but not with boobs to match, so it supports quite well.

Ditsy4 · 19/07/2016 21:21

flobble about I love it saucy Jack

What a brilliant thread. So I' m not the only one!
Bra free Saturday's are bliss. School hols possibly on days at home.

eloquent · 19/07/2016 22:11

I'm a 30h/hh depending on brand and I adore my bras. I don't feel uncomfortable and i don't even know I'm wearing them.

Horses for courses.

WanderingNotLost · 19/07/2016 22:14

32E here, it simply isn't an option. Would if I could though!

MrsKoala · 19/07/2016 22:30

Glad you like the DKNY bras. I have a couple in each colour. They are seamless and really comfortable and a very natural shape. Something i have never had after years of wearing padded underwired bras which stuck out ridiculously.

Agree with Hollie, wearing them when the inside of the bra is hollow just made me feel like crying. My tops would crumple in too so i would feel that everyone could tell i was wearing fake boob shells. My mum was very disappointed in my flat chest (she has big boobs) and always bought me those very padded, solid bras and kept talking about them 'giving me some shape'. But i feel so much better in my dkny natural look ones. My mum stares at my chest and shakes her head and huffs. Grin

Winemamma · 19/07/2016 22:38

Jealous! I have huge boobies so not an option for me Blush

GooodMythicalMorning · 19/07/2016 22:54

Sometimes I wear big padded things as I'm only a c, sometimes I wear a sports bra. Sports bras are great as I'd love to go braless but I feel all naked and vulnerable without one.

AnecdotalEvidence · 19/07/2016 22:58

34D and I avoid wearing a bra as much as possible!
Cami tops and bandeau tops are my favourite

DailyMaui · 19/07/2016 23:17

I have huge knockers - I wish I could be tiny, pert and bra less. In this weather Amy bra is unbearable.

DailyMaui · 19/07/2016 23:18

Any bra - have no idea what an Amy bra is

driveninsanebythehubby · 20/07/2016 01:12

Jamdonut I 100% agree about the Avon One Bra - I've lived in them since I discovered them and wouldn't go back! Affordable, sooooo comfortable and even give you a bit of shape despite being a crop top type of design.

I wear a bra because I have a weird thing where I can't stand ANYTHING touching/running against my nipples. Makes me feel physically sick. So to not wear a bra would be horrible because my top would rub against them and I would just hate it..., even the thought makes me feel so ill! So q well fitting bra that's not going to move around is perfect for me!

Funny enough, a couple f days ago an article appeared in my FB newsfeed about how more and more women are choosing to ditch the bra and that the saggy boobs thing is a myth (who's betting that a bra manufacturer invented that one!!).

IMO, YANBU.
