AIBU to be terrified?!

C section tomorrow. First baby, am so terrified, I feel I might faint. Can anyone reassure me?! I'm worried about the operation and that I might not like the baby . Anything I should be doing?

Don't be terrified - try and have a good nights sleep and enjoy the day. Planned sections are amazing!

What if something goes wrong? Will they give me anything in the morning to take the nerves away? I had vallium before anothe operation...

I had a C section and it was fine. Got skin to skin with DS once he'd been checked over and then lay holding him all night and enjoyed the lovely morphine Recovery was easy really, driving again within 3-4 weeks. Took me a while to feel the love for my boy but I like him very, very much now Best of luck tomorrow!

I've read too much on here about post natal care and terrible midwives and have really done a number on myself. Stupid really!

Planned section is great, please don't worry.

2 sections and both were great!

One was emergency and very unplanned and a natural birth gone wrong, but despite all that it was fine!

Second one was planned and even better!

What's the reason for the planned section if you don't mind me asking? I had placenta previa so it could have gone very wrong but everyone was so calm you wouldn't have known at all.

You will be FINE. You will like the baby! You might not feel euphoric, you might not have a huge rush of love so don't feel bad if you don't, but you will still love the baby.

It is scary having a baby any which way you have it. C sections are performed a zillion times a day and are very safe.

I wish you all the very best, please try and relax if you can this evening. Watch some silly telly, have some hot chocolate or something.

Have had problems throughout with my liver, and then suspected pre eclampsia and steroid injections. Made the decision then that I just couldn't face the uncertainty of a vaginal birth. Which I still feel is right, but have been traumatised by the stay in the ward a few weeks ago.

2 sections here, happiest experiences if my life. I was awake at the whole time and cuddling and feeding baby within minutes. (It was gross and sore and I felt nauseous throughout, but those feelings are soon forgotten) the first emotion I felt was not love, it was an incredible sense of responsibility to look after this little human and do the best for them, I would have walked through fire to protect them, the love came later over the next few days as I began to get to know their little personalities. Enjoy every little moment and try not listen to too much advice,trust your instincts!

I didn't have the immediate rush of love when I had a baby but by six months I was full on head over heels so don't panic if there's no immediate thing.

Stupid question- will I know that the baby is mine? Or will it just be like any other baby?

I had an elective Caesarian (first baby). Easily the best day of my life. The spinal was fine, although I got the shakes a bit which I think is quite common. Didn't take long for baby to arrive, hearing her cry and seeing her for the first time was amazing. Newborn snuggles are the best

I did struggle for the first few days with pain, but it got better quickly. I was very bruised which isn't normal

Enjoy it and try not to worry, it's an amazing experience

I had one, procedure was ok, didn't get to hold baby as he was a whopper and wouldn't fit on my chest (the table is very narrow) but got cuddles when I got back to recovery, he needed formula top ups but I managed to breastfeed (despite being certain I wouldn't)
Hormones take over and they smell so so good. You'll love you baby even if at time you don't like them!
It will all be fine, try and relax and get a little rest.

Tell them you're nervous -I got a sedative.

I knew he was mine. Like I said I didn't love him exactly but I think that's because he was still like a part of my body. I felt like we were the same person, I used to lie next to him and feel like I was breathing for him.

I've had one (emergency), it was a positive experience, painless, well looked after, great surgical team, felt informed and reassured all the way through. And I liked the baby very much. Well I did until this evening when he decided to 'clean the toilet' by emptying a bottle of my shampoo down it!

My section was unplanned but it was honestly fine, and I'm not exactly brave when it comes to medical stuff (have to lie down for blood tests!). Plus you get a gorgeous baby within minutes of them starting, doesn't half take your mind off the rest of it - they could have been doing anything the other side of that screen.

I liked my baby a LOT . In fact, the best bit for me was in recovery, when it was finally just the three of us. Utter bliss.

On a practical note, ask them to talk you through the process on arrival.

Tell them how scared you are - it's normal and they can probably give you something to help. My anaesthetist was lovely, she really helped me stay calm. In fact, all the theatre staff were fab.

Planned sections are statistically one of the safest ways to give birth. You'll be fine. Good luck!

I had a planned section and it was so peaceful and amazing. I was ridiculously nervous but every member of staff I come into contact with were amazing!! I felt so taken care of and I'm beyond petrified of needles but the staff were brilliant at calming me talking me through making it as
Minimal as possible. It really was an amazing experience I couldn't fault any of it. Hearing the first cry and then seeing your baby you will know he/she is yours
