Birthday cake at the office

Blablabla1984 · 23/06/2016 15:50

We do a collection for everyone’s birthday in the office and get them a present and a card and the birthday boy/girl brings in some cakes and sweets. Great, right?
Well today it’s my birthday, I baked two cakes last night and brought them in.

A few people made a comment that bringing a homemade cake is being cheap. All others so far have brought in Tesco cakes….

Seriously?? What world do we live in? I do enjoy baking and I thought people would appreciate a homemade cake… AIBU?

Of course YANBU. Homemade cake is always much nicer than shop bought.

Silly people.

Happy birthday to you! Flowers & Cake homemade, of course Grin

CakeNinja · 23/06/2016 15:53

Id make some murmurings about shop bought cakes being lazy Grin
But then I'm a cow if someone deserves it.
Happy birthday, send us a bit of your cake please!!

When I worked I longed for the day it was certain people's birthdays as they baked beautiful cakes.

As to cheap - poppycock. Probably cost you more.

Idiots.

indecisivedoctor · 23/06/2016 15:55

Wow. You must work with some really rude people to express that.

Aside from the fact they should be gracious about anything offered, a homemade cake is head and shoulders above a shop bought one and actually probably costs more in total.

purplefizz26 · 23/06/2016 15:59

Yanbu!
It can cost more to buy all the ingredients, it cost me £20 for everything I needed last week when I made a cake!

FuzzyOwl · 23/06/2016 16:01

YANBU. I honestly don't think it matters whether the cake is shop bought or homemade but I would never consider someone cheap whichever option they went for as I would be too busy happily scoffing.

Happy Birthday. CakeWineFlowersChocolate Hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 23/06/2016 16:02

I'd expect home made cake to be more expensive. Rude!

GlowWine · 23/06/2016 16:03

Wow, just wow. You work in the wrong office. Enjoy your cake and next time keep your home made creations and bring in some value brand cupcakes!

Ameliablue · 23/06/2016 16:06

Home made is generally not cheaper for a start as the home baker isn't buying ingredients in bulk and is often using better quality ingredients.

RaeSkywalker · 23/06/2016 16:07

Shock come and work with me! I live a homemade cake!

RaeSkywalker · 23/06/2016 16:07

^ love, not 'live'

TheFairyCaravan · 23/06/2016 16:10

YANBU

Homemade cakes are far, far better than bought ones. Cheeky, ungrateful gits!

Happy Birthday!

oldlaundbooth · 23/06/2016 16:11

Away with them all, ignorant plebs!

Send the cake my way! Grin

branofthemist · 23/06/2016 16:13

Yanbu. They are really cheeky and wrong.

But I can't agree with this

Homemade cake is always much nicer than shop bought.

I have tasted some shocking home made cakes in my time. Wink

Lovepancakes · 23/06/2016 16:13

I am outraged on your behalf ! And always see homemade as better quality as you get to choose say free range eggs etc

oldlaundbooth · 23/06/2016 16:16

Er, what is going on?

I CANNOT believe that no-one has asked what type of cake?! Shock and disgust at you lot.

Come on OP, what was it? Chocolate? Carrot? Or, dum dum dum, (whispers) lemon drizzle?

GoblinLittleOwl · 23/06/2016 16:16

Shop bought cakes! And they prefer them?
No taste, literally.

Tiggeryoubastard · 23/06/2016 16:19

While I honestly prefer a real cake I probably wouldn't eat yours unless if seen your kitchen. Under no circumstances would I comment, though, apart from to say it looked lovely, which I bet it does.

Blablabla1984 · 23/06/2016 16:19

oldlaundbooth One cake is lemon drizzle and the other one is chocolate with cream and black cherries.

Once a MNetter, always a MNetter!

Choc black cherries sound divine..

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 23/06/2016 16:21

Take them both home with you, don't share with the ungrateful fuckers!

Goingtobeawesome · 23/06/2016 16:21

Do not give those rude commentators any cake at all. You'd be silly to do so. Rude fuckers.

Happy birthday!

Boleh · 23/06/2016 16:21

Weird, my lot love a homemade cake and I get nagged to bake for our Friday team meeting since I mentioned that I enjoy it. Very rarely does anyone turn it down and I've never had any left past mid-afternoon!

Hastalapasta · 23/06/2016 16:21

No one would dare do a lemon drizzle for a birthday cake surely? Grin

Have a lovely birthday and ignore the idiots who prefer dry tasteless shop brought cakes. unless you work near a great bakers
