Theories about Bing Bunny

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 27/05/2016 12:15

I really don't like Bing - I don't like his cutesy mispronunciations and the simpering ways of Flop. But my 2 year old loves him so I have admitted defeat.

But I'm wondering... What is Flop? What species is he? Is he a childminder? Is he Bing's stepdad who has sole custody after Bing's mum couldn't stand either of them anymore and ran away to join the circus? Is he a foster carer? Do Bing's parents collect him really late, after bedtime, because they work long hours in the City? Does he go home to a burrow at weekends? What is going on?

This thread has actually made me Lol!!!!
I've been thinking the same things for ages!
I agree with GettingScared - when they say "Lunch. It's a Bing thing." WTF? So only Bing enjoys a meal in the middle of the day? I don't think so. Ggggrrrrr.

Sophsy · 27/05/2016 13:46

I'm a firm believer in the transfer of conciousness theory. At some unspecified age the children's bodies fail and their minds are transferred into the soft toys.

Also that Topsy and Tim's mum is locked in the toilet imagining what her day should have been like and eating chocolate and drinking wine from the bottle!

mumofawoodlouseeater · 27/05/2016 13:47

I quite like Bing (possibly because my 2 year old's other obsession is Paw Patrol, which is far more annoying) but I can't understand why they can't just say 'delicious' instead of 'de-LISS-ish!!" Angry

Porcupinetree · 27/05/2016 14:05

My theory is...

They're all lost/forgotten soft toys.

Flop's generation are older toys, more rudimentary in form, often knitted. They possess a capacity to give unconditional love regardless of the abuse or whinging they're witness to.

Bing's generation represent the more humanised, higher tech, interactive toys that have basic levels of artificial intelligence and are thus unable to function without the constant aid of the older toys...

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 27/05/2016 22:40

Amazing theories! Thanks all. Hopefully I'll be able to tolerate the monster that is Bing slightly more in future. Or at least think of all the other mumsnetters raging away with me.

Flop is too soft on him, I think. Like the episode where he drops the book in the bath. Flop warned him! But WTF did Flop let him have a book at bathtime? Just why? And then it fell in the bath. Well. Surprise surprise. And Flop said "It's no big thing." Bing must learn about consequences.

Why does that elephant have eyeliner on?

And why in the opening credits does that panda whip his shorts off to carry on running just in his pants?!

StealthPolarBear · 27/05/2016 22:43

I've had two glasses of wine, have never seen the (I presume) children's programme you're all talking about and this thread is like a bad trip...

softjellyjunglecustard · 27/05/2016 22:45

Bing is Satan's Apprentice.

Eternal damnation. It's a Bing thing.

SalemSaberhagen · 27/05/2016 22:48

Who birthed Charlie?

Where does Flop get all of his money from?

Is Flop BU to let Bing draw all over the public path outside the house? (I actually thought of how that thread would go when I watched that episode).

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 27/05/2016 22:49

The only thing that might make Bing vaguely enjoyable would probably be a couple of buckets of wine - get on iplayer and you'll see. After a couple more glasses you might even be ready for in the night garden...

All I know is that when they are watching it, I don't have to watch them. God bless Bing I say

ollieplimsoles · 27/05/2016 22:53

My favourite episode is 'butterfly'. Bing smushes a butterfly to smithereens, when he takes it outside and asks what's happened with everyone crowded around- Flop gives Amma a look that says 'oh shit it's dead how are we gonna do this?'

Binglesplodge · 27/05/2016 22:53

And who on earth is that saying "boo boo boo drip" in the opening sequence? It's not in Charlie the baby's voice but none of the others usually talk gibberish...!

Discopanda · 27/05/2016 22:55

I found out why they say "Aietchi" when someone sneezes!!! It's a mixture of two different languages' version of "bless you".

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 27/05/2016 22:57

I used to hate Bing (and I still hate his stupid baby-isms) but I have to admit to trying to channel my inner Flop at times. It rarely works, I'm just not designed for serenity.

SalemSaberhagen · 27/05/2016 23:00

It's Pando Bingle. He says it in another episode, I think it is the 'knack' one.

I'm dying a little inside as I write this. My Bing knowledge is pretty extensive.

DontBuyANewMumCuntingDailyMail · 27/05/2016 23:01

I don't mind Bing. Every morning I whack it on my phone and DD watches it on repeat while I try to sleep a bit longer.

The 'It's a Bing thing' doesn't grate on me at all, I take it as a harmless catchphrase they came up with probably to market it with.
The incorrect words really pisses me off though, I like it when he does it mid-episode as Flop normally corrects him, but then he makes the same mistakes again in the summary! He should get it right at the end, to show he's learnt something.

I saw the episode where they babysit Charlie the other day, and they totally cut away from showing Flop get him out of the buggy. Total cop out.

I think Flop and Amma are in love. Padget is a secret love rival.
I totally accepted Pando taking his shorts off, isn't it quite common for toddlers to strip off? Thought it was just a nod to that.

Binglesplodge · 27/05/2016 23:04

Salem, you're a legend. I'm off to see if I can track it down... It's been annoying me for months!

Chinks123 · 27/05/2016 23:08

I read somewhere that flop is his carer, they all have one: Amma is Sula and Padgett is Pandos. They don't have parents just carers and they're smaller because toddlers rule the world Grin

I don't mind Bing. But I hate the episode where he keeps doing 'clumbos' and STILL after the third time of Bing ramming his car across the table, he remains calm. It's just not natural Smile I too am waiting for the episode where he loses it.

Chinks123 · 27/05/2016 23:08

*amma is Sula's

ollieplimsoles · 27/05/2016 23:11

Its Pando in the knack episode! He says it while he's down that laying down sideways running in circles thing- thats his knack.

I think amma has some really good coping devises (blowing away the angry) and creative mannerisms, eg 'put your hands up if you have had fun today, now keep those hands in the air, and wave bye bye'.. I'm stealing that.

yorkshapudding · 27/05/2016 23:12

I assumed that Flop was Bing's Dad and that, in the Bing universe, children shrink and go a bit weird looking (as though they've been knitted, with less defined facial features and tiny arms etc) as they age..so when Bing gets older he'll look more like Flop, Sula will look more like Amma etc.

What annoys me is why do the children wear clothes but the adults don't?

monkeynutsandjam · 27/05/2016 23:35

This is my current favourite thread. Thanks for making me laugh my head off (nearly) everyone Grin

Katkincake · 27/05/2016 23:44

Well that's put a whole new load of theories in my head (love the purgatory one) - will share them with husband in the morning whilst we suffer yet more Bing on iplayer - hate the mispronounced words the most.

On the plus side it enthrals ds in bed in morn so we can snooze whilst he watches, so god bless the creators I say!

yummycake123 · 27/05/2016 23:49

That open letter to Flop is the best thing ever! GrinIve been on Twitter and FB's Bing group, trying to find out what Flop is...but no luck yet.

Some episodes are really annoying like the one when Bing breaks Flop's phone and Flop is like "oh, don't worry Bing, it was just a little clumbo". Who reacts like that??! My son cracked my phone's screen and I was the anti-Flop.
Also when Bing is painting the mural and paint is dripping everywhere...very annoying!
