Theories about Bing Bunny

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 27/05/2016 12:15

I really don't like Bing - I don't like his cutesy mispronunciations and the simpering ways of Flop. But my 2 year old loves him so I have admitted defeat.

But I'm wondering... What is Flop? What species is he? Is he a childminder? Is he Bing's stepdad who has sole custody after Bing's mum couldn't stand either of them anymore and ran away to join the circus? Is he a foster carer? Do Bing's parents collect him really late, after bedtime, because they work long hours in the City? Does he go home to a burrow at weekends? What is going on?

I don't mind Bing. The music is quite sweet and it's not half as irritating as other things. Bing can be a bit simpering at times, glad I haven't got Flop's job. I watched the one where Bing pinched a lollypop and was desperate for Flop to say "stealing: it's a Bing thing" but he totally copped out Sad

How come some animals are small and behave like real animals (eg the cat and squirrels) but other animals are bigger and can talk and wear clothes (eg Bing and Pando etc)?

Is Flop an ant? I initially thought Bing would get smaller and more ant-like as he aged (but then I saw Charlie and Koko, so the kids must be getting taller).

I thought Flop and Amma had a thing, but I saw an episode recently where Pando fell asleep in Bing's bed and ended up sleeping over, which meant Padget presumably spent the night at Flop's place.....

Iamcheeseman · 28/05/2016 00:07

Bing has been banned in this house ever since DD started saying 'I don't like it' in the whiney bing voice to everything. Whenever it comes on she says 'ut oh bing. Bing naughty. Turn bing off' Grin

And regarding the flopp business- I read on the bbc site when this was discussed before that he's a nanny/carer type person. I'll see if I can find it. It was very wishy washy.

ollieplimsoles · 28/05/2016 00:12

Botanical

Oh flop is totally in there with Padget, it would have taken five mins for her to quickly pick up Pando's bullabaloo toy and leave, but oooh no, she's having cups of tea and everything, next thing- shea staying over.

Well done flop, good one.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 28/05/2016 00:12

Dispatching your enemies and unwanted wives. It's a King Thing

SalemSaberhagen · 28/05/2016 12:09

I can't stand Padget. I still get angry thinking of the Swing episode, we can't watch that one any more.

CaveMum · 28/05/2016 12:34

We probably watch 4-5 episodes a day on iPlayer, it's the only way I can get DD (2.3) to stay still long enough to dress her, brush my teeth and dry my hair in the mornings. Unfortunately she usually elects to watch the same episode 5 times in a row rather than 5 different ones

Caffeinator · 28/05/2016 22:11

yummycake123 I laughed out loud at the anti-Flop Grin

Caffeinator · 28/05/2016 22:14

From that open letter I liked "Ehy can we print a kidney but the internet doesn’t work when it rains?" and "Flop, when was the last time you had to bite your car key to stop yourself crying at the till because you were exhausted and you only paid for 90 minutes parking and you had 3 minutes left but you were a 4 minute walk from the car and you were trying to enter your pin number with a struggling Bing gripped precariously under your left arm and your right hand self-consciously grazing the pram handle to check if your handbag was still there?"

Caffeinator · 28/05/2016 22:15

*Why

personoftheinternet · 28/05/2016 22:41

Flop and Amma definitely have a thing going on.
I'm desperate to see what Coco and Charlies knitted carer is like, we see her dropping them off at the beginning of the episodes but we haven't met her yet. I imagine her being a bit of a cow, Cocos a bit of a smug know it all, she's bound to have got it from somewhere.

kat360 · 28/05/2016 23:00

My 6yo dd once explained bing to me and I can't watch it anymore.

My 5yo dd asked where bings mum and dad were, so 6yo dd says he left them behind. When asked she goes on to say that bing and his friends are all the babies that didn't make it out of their mummys tummys (I have miscarried in the past) and flop is a angel that looks after him, he teaches him all the things his mummy would have and it means that he still gets to live. His mummy and daddy know he's safe and looked after until they can see him again.

I can't watch it without feeling a little sad now.Sad

Hidingthefear · 28/05/2016 23:02

If you've got issues with flop then fuck knows what you think of in the night garden.now that really is a programme that's trippy as balls and makes no sense.

I like bing. When I'm in a parenting pickle I often think "what would flop say". Although dh pointed out that were not rich enough to be like flop. If ds broke my phone I'm not sure I coukd stay calm enough to be like ah well don't worry. I'd be like damn my phones broke and I don't have spare cash to just fix it.

I think flop is like bings imaginary friend or a teddy or something.

Kids TV makes no bloody sense... haha

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 28/05/2016 23:05

Yes, I've always thought that Coco's knitted carer looks like a cow, but then I think, hang on, she's a busy career type. She just manages to do the childminder drop off in a more organised and less frazzled state than me. Cowbag.

There's no traffic there. Or dust. I'm a bit envious of Flop.

Love the open letter to Flop! What do you think about the EU Flop?

OP posts:
woodwaj · 28/05/2016 23:07

Walks in, fucks shit up. Cries. It's ok -it's a Bing thing!

I can't get over him murdering a butterfly! Shock

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 28/05/2016 23:10

Aye, the butterfly thing was really bad.

And the one where he couldn't find Hoppity at bedtime, so off they went to calmly look for him in the garden. WTF was Flop thinking? As if any parent or carer in their right mind would be so calm if the favourite toy was missing at bedtime. Fools.

Whitelisbon · 28/05/2016 23:34

In the books, flop is a teddy, albeit a sentient one. In bing bedtime, flop gets lost (its OK, he's under the bed).
Bing has a daddy too, he makes him a picture in something for daddy, and he and flop stick it on the fridge.

Dd1 loved the bing books as a toddler, she still has her whole collection in her bedroom, and refuses to let her siblings even know they exist (and she's 13 now), however she has massive issues with the cartoon, and leaves the room muttering if it comes on Confused

The cartoon irritates the shit out of me, but the dts love it, and it gives me 15 minutes of peace to drink tea every morning Grin

BotanicalPJs · 29/05/2016 00:49

It's starting to make a bit more sense if flop is a teddy and it's all from a child's perspective.

Mumberjack · 29/05/2016 03:18

In the Clumbo episode I really wanted flop to go 'radge' at Bing. Flop definitely on some strong medication.

DD (3) gets annoyed when I announce 'oh it's Bing, let's see what he's whinging about today'. For me it's like a toddler version of Casualty...an everyday situation plays out with the ominous feeling of 'when is Bing going to fuck it up'

Hidingthefear · 29/05/2016 21:18

mumberjack I've been watching geordie shore and had no idea what radge meant so thanks for putting it in context for me Grin

NickyEds · 29/05/2016 21:44

There's an episode I'd like to see......."Round the corner not far away Flop really loses his shit today". Flop's sat on the stairs outside the house bottle necking whiskey. He's had enough. It wasn't a clumbo it was totally fucking deliberate and the house is a tip. Padgit comes to join him, Pando's pushed her too far. They sit together rocking and drinking. "Driving your parents to drink.....it's a Bing thing!"

soundslikethat · 30/05/2016 08:08

Nicky I'd love to see that too! And one where Flop is having a crap day and just lets Bing watch TV for hours whilst he eats biscuits and plays on his phone.
Being slightly neglected - it's a Bing thing!

qazxc · 30/05/2016 08:43

Nothing in the houses seem to be the right size for either flop or Bing. I have a theory that flop et co are some sort of aliens that have taken over the place of the adults and are bidding their time until their master plan becomes obvious.
