It's a lot less cringey than "Aunt Flo" - that makes me shudder.

I had never heard the term 'I'm on' or even 'I'm on my period' until I moved to England from Ireland. In Ireland it's 'I have my period.'

I say I'm about to have/having my period, or if referencing how shitty I'm feeling, premenstrual or have PMS.

My mother called it her 'monthlies' and that makes me cringe so hard my face inverts. And 'women's problems'. Agh.

I'm sure my daughter will hate the way I describe them too though, to be fair. It's the way of life.

theSparrowhawk I'm the same - I would always say "I have my period". I'll not embarrass myself by saying how long it took me to connect the phrase Auntie Flo to having a period - I'd never heard that expression until I started to use MN.

I call it 'Shark Week' because there will be blood, an uncomfortable sense of tension and a bad tempered, unpredictable beast .

YANBU. It is a terrible way to describe your period. Why can't you say l have my period or I'm due my period. It sounds like something a dog breeder would say about their bitches

I thought this thread was going to be complaining about people saying things like, "don't you hate it when a man comes on to you when..." Mixed with the period sense, it gets very confusing.

I think I may have said, "I came on this morning," to my yoga teacher last week. I certainly communicated the information, though I'm not 100% sure which wording I used. So I don't feel I'm in a position to complain. Mind you, I have beeno known to use words and phrases which wind me up in the past, so who knows.

The worst is 'on the blob.' So gross. Only ever hear men say it. My friend says it's her shark week, I like that!

I don't mind 'coming on' etc. Is Aunt Flow only used online? I'd hate to say it out loud.

I'd never heard of being 'on your period' until mumsnet either. I'm pretty sure I'm from the same part of the world as wiggles, it's always 'have your period' here.

First time I read 'I'm on' I honestly hadn't a clue what it meant.

I say 'time of the month' but I really don't like anyone saying anything to me about their totm.

I mean, obviously I understand the sentence 'I'm on my period'. I just didn't understand the sentence 'I'm on' without the rest of it.
