And the shortened 'I'm on' - both used to say someone is having a period. There's something about it that just makes me cringe...

Thing is, even the word period is a euphemism! So all of you who "don't like euphemisms"... you're using one Grin

thats what i was thinking, surely you are menstruating?

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 13/05/2016 18:41

I like to say "the English have landed" which I learnt as an au-pair in France.

SaturdaySurprise · 13/05/2016 18:43

I know someone, who called it "the curse". That always sounded rather dramatic to me.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 13/05/2016 18:48

In this house it's the Lady of Shallot. By Tennyson.

As in "The curse has come upon me, cried The Lady of Shallott".

Ankleswingers · 13/05/2016 18:49

YANBU.....

My Mum says it and it makes my teeth itch and I wince.
Wtf should anybody feel it's an appropriate
way to describe a period is beyond me.

I just say that I have my period and that's it. I don't even feel the need to share it with anyone either, only my DH.

RuggerHug · 13/05/2016 18:52

Sorry this is for page one replies but Sparrow and wiggles, never said 'munster are playing at home'?. Disclaimer, I only say it as a joke!

sminkypinky · 13/05/2016 19:03

No games week, mainly due to the number of notes written by me my mum to get me out of P.E. when I was on my period at school.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 13/05/2016 19:04

"Off games..."

CoraPirbright · 13/05/2016 19:10

I used to say "I have got my period".

From now on, however, I will be saying "its shark week".

Brilliant. Grin

noisyrice · 13/05/2016 19:18

I wake up on the Japanese flag

RuggerHug · 13/05/2016 20:08

Oh also 'I have fallen to the communists'.

Purplemonkeydishwasherpimp · 13/05/2016 20:10

"getting your monthlies" cringe

ChihuahuaChick · 13/05/2016 20:20

I call it "on the blob" and refer to my vaginal discharge as "crotch snot". As in "oh phew, I thought I was on the blob, but it's just a load of crotch snot".

YoJesse · 13/05/2016 20:21

My H referred to sanitary towels as jam rags Now that is disgusting!

maisiejones · 13/05/2016 20:21

I hate 'on my period' too. Almost as much as I hate 'fell/falling pregnant'!

oldjacksscrote · 13/05/2016 20:29

When I was about to throw out my giant post csection knickers, OH said "They'll do as blob pants won't they?"
so gross and not a term I've ever used and certainly not one I'd ever like to hear him say again.

He calls CBeebies Katy Morag, Katy Jamrag, boak.

derxa · 13/05/2016 20:38
My mum used to just flap her hands and let her sentences tail off. She called sanitary products things. She tried her best, bless her, but has always been a bit squeamish. My best friend and I called them doodahs This is a bit Cissie and Ada Grin
Albadross · 13/05/2016 20:45

Funny how it's ok for men to not only ask you if you're having your period, or if you're about to be, but to also then do it in front of others? Just awful. I might start asking men at work who are looking grumpy or worked up if they've got a 'raging hard-on' and see if they appreciate it. I found out my dad had told my friend's dad (they were friends at the time) that I'd started my periods when I was a teenager and I never could look him I the eye again..,

Arsenal are playing at home 😂

Albadross · 13/05/2016 20:57

Saying 'I'm bleeding' could get confusing though - what if you say that and then someone asks you where? 'Uhhh... M... My vagina?!'

OP posts:
IronMaggie · 13/05/2016 21:02

I completely agree Milk, the only real option is "I'm menstruating". Seeing as references to bleeding from vaginal orifices might not go down too well in some social situations...

cleaty · 13/05/2016 21:18

Yes, from my vagina. You would say it about bleeding from anywhere else. Wouldn't say it in front of my parents though.

YesILikeItToo · 13/05/2016 21:20

I don't think we are comfortable enough talking about [this what you call it] to criticise what people call it. I think we should welcome people talking about it. Don't shut down a phrase that is infra dig or is the only one that people have ever heard used. they want to say something that I think they don't say often enough.

FankEweVeryMuch · 13/05/2016 21:20

I call it 'Big Red'. I would never say 'come on', YANBU.

Emochild · 13/05/2016 21:22

My ex used to call it poorly week

Use to make me cringe and I listened to that for 13 years!!!
