And the shortened 'I'm on' - both used to say someone is having a period. There's something about it that just makes me cringe...

OP posts:
scarednoob · 13/05/2016 14:20

"when's your dolmio day?"

can't watch those adverts now :(

OohMavis · 13/05/2016 14:21

Dolmio day! Ew.

Majorlyscared1993 · 13/05/2016 14:21

Dolmio I will never eat pasta again!!!

I can't take credit it's from a tv show but it makes me chuckle once a month Wink

TroysMammy · 13/05/2016 14:22

Years ago I was being particularly evil during "the time of the month" and my then husband said to his mate "she's got the decorators in" . His very dull friend said "really, which room are you having done?"

Savagebeauty · 13/05/2016 14:22

Lol @ shark week

BillBrysonsBeard · 13/05/2016 14:23

I say "It's like a butchers shop down there!"

I don't really.. Wink Alot of them are a bit cringe aren't they. I think I just say "I've got my period"

Catmuffin · 13/05/2016 14:24

I like "on my ketchup" Grin

TroysMammy · 13/05/2016 14:24

Another of his mates charmingly used to say his girlfriend "has got her rags up".

Catmuffin · 13/05/2016 14:24

I would say "have my period" rather than "on my period"

wigglesrock · 13/05/2016 14:25

Thinking about it - I've been having a few period talks with my eldest at the minute (she's almost 11) and she's uses the phrase having a period. My dad says "cramps" - "are you having cramps?" used to be his stock phrase when we were all living at home - followed by an offer to run as quickly as he could to the shop for sweets Grin

EponasWildDaughter · 13/05/2016 14:26

'On the jam rag' is the worst i've heard. (thanks for sharing that DH)

YANBU OP.

My mother always used to call it being 'on'. ''Are you on?'', in hushed terms, as if it was a secret. It's made it cringy for me.

Not keen on 'time of the month' either.

'Decorators in' amuses me.

Now i've read the thread i can't think what i call it!

MadHattersWineParty · 13/05/2016 14:26

My ex-housemate (Aussie) used to say 'surfing the Crimson wave' or 'swimming in the red sea' ew.

I would day in on my period but I can't remember the last time I offered up any info about my current monthly bleed. Next time I do I am absolutely saying 'fallen to the communists'Grin

CozImQuirky · 13/05/2016 14:27

Riding the Crimson wave

LadyReuleaux · 13/05/2016 14:30

I say "on the blob"! (And am a woman!) I agree with OP that "coming on" is cringey. I'll also say "I've got PMT".

Liking "fallen to the communists" though :o

FutureGadgetsLab · 13/05/2016 14:32

Fallen to the communists is my new period euphemism!

Ihatechoosingnames · 13/05/2016 14:32

Fallen to the communists is brilliant!

yumyumpoppycat · 13/05/2016 14:33

It does seem to be men who come up with the 'amusing' terms. Dp says painters are in.

I remember dsis had written 'aunty flo visited me today' in her diary when she was 12 ..cringe.

ketchup one is quite funny, but I hate ketchup otherwise it would prob put me off ketchup!

FV45 · 13/05/2016 14:34

My period is due any day.
I'm having my period.
I'm at the end of my period.

The more you say the word period the more normal it becomes.
Was talking about missed periods and pregnancy (not with respect to myself!) with my 17 yo last night. All fine.

cleaty · 13/05/2016 14:34

I either say period, or that I am bleeding. I prefer to say that I am bleeding.

IDontBelieveAnything · 13/05/2016 14:34

I can't get too bothered by this although Aunt Flo is a bit twee. I say I have my period or I've got my period but, I think I sometimes I say it's the time of the month. If I'm having a super heavy period I might tell my DH that The Shop is Closed - which is cringe'y beyond cringe'y but I promise we do it in an ironic jokey way Blush Grin

just noticed the 'i'm on' link at the top of the page Grin

Costacoffeeplease · 13/05/2016 14:35

It's just a contraction of 'I'm on my period' though

birchygoo · 13/05/2016 14:35

Ive also heard TOM is visiting as in 'Time Of (the) Month'

also from Ire, never Im ON but I Have

ChaseAvenal · 13/05/2016 14:36
