To wonder what teaching will be like in ten years?

The other thread about OPs husband not taking time off inspired this one; it (obviously) isn't a TAAT, though :)

What do you think will happen to the profession in 2026?

Our children will be taught by unqualified teachers in academies. Local authority schools will not exist- the Conservatives will make sure of it so their cronies can be appointed as chief execs of said academies and line their own pockets at the expense of our children's education. IMO of course...

I'm in HE.
It will all be done online and via call centres.

I'll still be standing in front of bored teenagers, saying, "No, your pen hasn't exploded - it's leaked."

It'll all be on YouTube.

Teachers won't exist.

Kids sitting in front of banks of computers which will be delivering lessons. Supervised by unqualified 'teachers' , in academies where money is creamed off the top to pay the Academy chain directors.

Play times decreed as 'surplus to requirements' and abolished because they don't offer measurable learning progress.

I hope to Christ I'm out of it by then. Probably carted off to a place of safety for my own safety and security at the rate it's going. This is not the job I trained 4 years for. Hell, it's not even the same job as it was 5 years ago.

I think my DC have the last of decent schooling in this country.

I despair for my grandchildren.

There will be no decent people left willing to teach. Why would they?

They will be forced to teach A level syllabus to 5 year olds and give up!

I dread to think. Really. My nby hope is that so many teachers and parents will abandon the state system that they are forced to rethink. Given that Tories don't care about the education of ordinary people I'm nit even sure that will help. I left the state sector last year after over 20 years because it's broken.

Actually today I heard a teacher talking about a new free school where children will be 'taught' in groups of 60 in front of computers delivering the curriculum, supervised by staff who aren't qualified teachers.

It's not a dystopian fantasy, it's actually going to happen. :-(

Meanwhile, politicians from all ends of the political spectrum will continue to send their children private to schools which are unaffected by political meddling by non-educators.

I actually think it will happen / is happening too minifingerz. I'm so worried for my children and their children.

FranHastings, I work in a primary school, and all of our playtime games/activities have a learning outcome and the children don't even know about it . They have loads of social games on at lunch in particular (rounders, cricket, football, skipping races, competitions etc.), and they all link to progressing their development (whether it's gross motor skills, social skills, or just learning you can't win all of the time).

I saw a Yr 4 class teacher's post advertised as an unqualified role at 18K. At an academy of course.

The signs are already there - it's pretty evident how things are going.

One of our local schools have tried to get rid of the afternoon play for KS1 children for the reasons I stated. Maybe I should suggest the learning outcomes thing, iamtheblackwizards and then the children would get to keep them?! Good plan!

What does the government care if many Tory voters bugger off to the private sector and leave children in the state sector to sink below the waves.

They WANT inequality. That's how a Tory economy thrives - it needs ignorant and disempowered drones working for minimum wage on zero hours contracts to begin to compete with the Chinese.

I'm seeing a few ads for unqualified teachers now too. Very worrying.

I would FranHastings, since the school started doing these (the children are not forced ofc, if they want to lie in the grass and just chat or play tag they can do as much as they like) there's been a massive reduction in fights and falling out. Even the children who don't like playing with other children play the activities as there's and adult there watching it.

I realise my post above doesn't entirely make sense. I mean, maybe they can employ learning outcomes for things other than Maths and English?!

Mind you, this is an academy where they've also banned the reading of picture books to yr 1 children and done away with the role play area, so I don't think they're very interested in encouraging anything outside robot like existences.

I'm very good at my job but I don't know if it will exist in 10 years, an unqualified person would be cheaper and more disposable than I am.

I just can't see teenagers being motivated to learn without an adult who they know and trust to motivate them. For some of my 16 year old students, the only thing making them work at it is knowing they'd let me down if they didn't.

This thread is depressing. I've just quit teaching and was keeping my hopes up for an improvement so I could go back some day.

As a teacher, I think we'll still be there. After all, they need someone to input all the pointless data so they can track progress and have people who are clueless about education to tell us we're doing it wrong.
