To be disappointed that Kate Middleton has posed for Vogue cover

I'm ambivalent to the Royal Family but like the way Kate has taken a relatively low key approach since marrying William. I think it's a shame she's decided to pose for Vogue. Liz Jones writes:

'But here is my important problem. You only grace the cover of Vogue when you want to become an icon and have your ego massaged. You are joining the fashion elite.

Like Diana, who wanted to be a mother, a Princess, a charity worker, an everywoman, a pin-up, Kate has sold her soul to the devil that is vanity and elitism, and those fashionistas who judge others only by their BMI.

Kate, who up to now has protected her privacy and that of her children ferociously, has opened the floodgates to the sort of forensic scrutiny her late mother-in-law endured'.

Sorry I don't get it. A famous person who's pic often appears in the press has her pic in an established magazine. Why not? Its not radical.

But then again idk who Liz Jones is.

Tram10 · 01/05/2016 10:11

I bet Boden are popping the champagne as we write !!

Liz Jones in an idiot.

SuckingEggs · 01/05/2016 10:14

Yes, it is very Boden.

It's her choice. Can't get too excited about it tbh

SinglePringle · 01/05/2016 10:15

Kate as a fashion icon?!?

Hahahahahahaha!

sharknad0 · 01/05/2016 10:16

I am not disappointed, it sums her up very well. She is of course completely entitled to have her own priorities, and she doesn't care what people think of her. What I find very sad is that some people consider her a "role model". Strange ways to raise your kids!

LaConnerie · 01/05/2016 10:18

Yabu. Because Liz Jones is a loon, the DM is shite, and to suggest that KM keeps a 'low profile' is hilarious.

Julia2016 · 01/05/2016 10:21

I really hope parents don't sell km as an icon to their children. I really shudder at what kids are looking up to these days.

The royals pick and choose their narrative and the gullible follow it. I cannot believe the British taxpayer paid 4.5m to renovate Kensington palace, the mind boggles, our values are gone very wrong.

howtorebuild · 01/05/2016 10:21

I am confused by the Cambridges, they send mixed messages. They want to be public, they want a quiet family life, which is it?

I feel sorry for them sometimes and at others I think give it up then if you don't want to do it.

firesidechat · 01/05/2016 10:23

I don't know who took the photos, but they are pretty bad considering the subject and the big name magazine.

sn1ce · 01/05/2016 10:25

I think there's also a link to an exhibition at the national portrait gallery (of which Kate is patron) to do with Vogue:100 yrs of style which explains why she did it

stickystick · 01/05/2016 10:26

Agree Shark, I've never understood why KM is a positive role model. As far as I can tell she is a role model for:

  1. being very very thin (probably connected to the fact she smokes like a chimney)
  2. being known almost entirely for what she wears (not helped by a Vogue cover)
  3. spending thousands of pounds a year on having her hair done
  4. having thousands spent on her education but never having had a proper job
  5. not saying anything much at all (except things like "hello sweetie what's that drawing of?"when visiting primary schools)
  6. the fact that if you marry a very rich man you can get away with all the above

I don't have a daughter but if I did, I would be disturbed if she chose KM as a role model.

SuburbanRhonda · 01/05/2016 10:26

does she say anything interesting?

Hahahahahahahaha

AugustaFinkNottle · 01/05/2016 10:28

Why do you call her Kate Middleton? It's not her name.

Elisa1976 · 01/05/2016 10:29

I'm beyond bored by Liz Jones and her diatribes against everyone and everything.

What's wrong with the pics? Kate looks relaxed and content.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/05/2016 10:29

I'm confused by the Cambridges too. What do they want and how and why?

It does still irk me that their pathetic Party Pieces company trades off the back of their royal connections and that Kate was moreorless plonked into Will's view almost like a PR exercise.

It all just seems so shabby and manipulated.

My DB saw the Windsor boys the other day when he was filming at Pinewood, he said they went past on a buggy after doing their Star Wars japes. That's all they seem to do really, the odd bit of army work when it suits them, and then mess around with toys otherwise.

I can't help thinking if Diana was still around she'd have had more of a say in some of Harry's stupid antics which were beyond the pale and rich posh boy antics.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/05/2016 10:32

Augusta to me she will always be "Waity Katie". Grin

Still irks to a lot of people that she did barely no work beside her odd job at Jigsaw and that Pips doesn't work much either (family firm).

Ok so the above probably is a bit jealous but when you have people struggling to pay the mortgage some hangers on who are supported by state/royal family etc (delete as appropriate) it does some people's goats somewhat.

CuntyMcCuntface · 01/05/2016 10:32

she smokes like a chimney

That's interesting because my first thought when I saw the second photo was that it looked like she was missing a fag Grin

Julia2016 · 01/05/2016 10:33

KM is her name, my maiden name is still my name even though I also go by my married name.

She might be Her Royal Highness to some but not to others, I don't believe anyone is higher than the next person.

WallisSimpson11 · 01/05/2016 10:33

She can appear on any magazine for all I care. I'm just bothered that someone has described this woman as a fashion icon. Really Shock.

BarbRoyle · 01/05/2016 10:37

I'm with singlepringle on this one - she has a very safe, dull style, in my opinion

AugustaFinkNottle · 01/05/2016 10:39

No, a person's name is the name they choose to go by. Royal Highness is a title and a totally different thing.

IWILLgiveupsugar · 01/05/2016 10:40

Vogue is about fashion and KM is not a person I would associate with being a fashion icon, therefore it is an odd choice to me.

I do think that the royal family want to have their cake and eat it, in that they want to dictate the terms of their involvement in public life. Sorry, no. You want the perks, you pull your weight!

That said LJ is not someone whose opinion I have any respect for. She is spiteful.

RaeSkywalker · 01/05/2016 10:44

Liz Jones is a real treat isn't she Hmm. I can't get over the irony of someone working for the DM, (who spend half of their time criticising how women look), criticising the 'fashion elite' for being obsessed with BMI.

I think that the photos are fine, and it makes sense for her to do them because of her connection to the National Portrait Gallery.

I also suspect what the Cambridges are trying to do is release information/ images in a controlled way, thus keeping the paparazzi away most of the time.

BitchAdministrator · 01/05/2016 10:46

Liza Jones aside maybe Kate is doing that thing that they do with their kids where they release a little but of themselves that their happy to to feed the public curiosity so that they'll be left in peace. And not hounded to death in a high speed car cash by paparazzi

IWILLgiveupsugar · 01/05/2016 10:54

I do think that if the royals are to survive long term then they have to do proper jobs that contribute to society. No more of this poncing about on permanent holidays with the odd engagement thrown in.
Prince Andrew crashing through gates because he cba to drive the detour home and his daughter's seemingly on permanent breaks - all that shit has to stop. They are damaging people like the queen, who does I think, take her position seriously.
William and Harry have to stop arsing about like teenagers - the country is suffering economically, people are using foodbanks and all this does is breed resentment because they are rubbing people's noses in the fact that they are so advantaged in life through nothing more than being born into a specific family. I know that's true of all families but tbe royals need to remember that tneir wealth and position comes from us and we are entitled to get value for money.
