To be disappointed that Kate Middleton has posed for Vogue cover

I'm ambivalent to the Royal Family but like the way Kate has taken a relatively low key approach since marrying William. I think it's a shame she's decided to pose for Vogue. Liz Jones writes:

'But here is my important problem. You only grace the cover of Vogue when you want to become an icon and have your ego massaged. You are joining the fashion elite.

Like Diana, who wanted to be a mother, a Princess, a charity worker, an everywoman, a pin-up, Kate has sold her soul to the devil that is vanity and elitism, and those fashionistas who judge others only by their BMI.

Kate, who up to now has protected her privacy and that of her children ferociously, has opened the floodgates to the sort of forensic scrutiny her late mother-in-law endured'.

I didn't recognise her in the photos. How did they manage to get her to look so different? I was looking at the picture and thinking where is she?

howtorebuild · 01/05/2016 11:04

Now they have released pictures of Charlotte.

Roussette · 01/05/2016 11:05

Liz Jones is a pain and I don't listen to a thing she says.

Hate KM in that hat - she looks like she's some sort of throwback to a 1970's folk band, it does not look good on her. Stripey jumper pic, she looks far too thin I think.

But why shouldn't she? Diana did. I like some of the young Royals - what Harry has done Invictus wise raising the profile of disabled servicemen is fantastic. I don't consider that arsing around like a teenager. As far as Kate, well... someone had to marry William and she has taken on a huge job and I don't think she'll put a foot wrong into the future. Plus she looks quite regal with a tiara on. Grin

EponasWildDaughter · 01/05/2016 11:09

exit - ''And her clothes are perfectly normal for country living.''

Hmmm. Country living? She's a chauffeur driven princess who lives in a bloody great mansion. I doubt her life is any more countryfied than the average chelsea girl who likes to take a walk in the park every so often. The clothes would have been chosen for the photo shoot.

(sorry exit i usually nod along to all your posts Grin)

The aesthetic is more befitting of Country Life magazine or Cirencester Young Farmers newsletter than Vogue Confused

WallisSimpson11 · 01/05/2016 11:35

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge not Kate.

snowgirl29 · 01/05/2016 11:38

I like the photos and thinks she looks lovely. Ironic isn't it? People wonder why she chooses not to say much and she still gets criticised by the likes of Liz Jones when she's posed for a few photos and chosen not to have said a word anyway. Confused

snowgirl29 · 01/05/2016 11:47

Kate, who up to now has protected her privacy and that of her children ferociously, has opened the floodgates to the sort of forensic scrutiny her late mother-in-law endured'.

I disagree with Liz Jones on this bit too, she is already open to that sort of forensic scrutiny with or without the vogue cover (wasn't there a mundane press thing about her eyebrows recently?) and good on her for doing it too.

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/05/2016 11:57

Well it's what I wear. Only cheaper and more battered versions Wink

FlowerOfTheWest · 01/05/2016 11:58

I always call her Kate Middleton (on the rare occasions I feel the need to speak about her), as that's the name she went by when she was first in the public eye. It's not like anyone doesn't know who I mean. Some people still refer to Lady Di.

DoesFlossfloss · 01/05/2016 12:00

when she and Wliiam sued the French rag that published photos of her sunbathing topless, the papers were filed under her maiden name.

Roussette did Pussycat spring to mind? Smile

Julia2016 · 01/05/2016 12:20

Completely agree iwillgiveupsugar.

How can these people who spend millions on houses and thousands on clothes, dare to identify with people who have real life issues like not having enough food in their fridge. I think once the queen passes that public opinion will change on the monarchy.

Roussette · 01/05/2016 12:59

OurBlanche you've nailed it! KM wouldn't look out of place crooning with that lot! There's even stripes!

Chillyegg · 01/05/2016 13:10

I couldn't give two fiddles about what Kate does. It's a shame she didn't get a bit more dressed up and styled her self as a Dennis the menace cow boy but what can you do.
Complete non story.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 01/05/2016 13:16

She's not Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge - that would denote a former title. She's HRH The Duchess of Cambridge as Diane was HRH The Princess of Wales until she divorced and became Diana, Princess of Wales.

The photos are not great but I can't get too over excited either way with anything Liz Jones says, she's a professional troll

However, I do agree that the Cambridges need some serious PR help. In any event, I think the Queen will be our last "great" monarch. William and Kate could get what they are ostensibly wishing for sooner than they might think. The question is, will it be so attractive then? I think not

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 01/05/2016 13:21

But why would she care what people who hated her anyway might think? It could be a 'damned if I do, damned if I don't' feeling.

The section of the British public who dislike her and William are going about trying to change her in a very poor way. They seem to care less with every insult.

Goingtobeawesome · 01/05/2016 14:34

Someone said they can't believe the British tax payer paid £4.5 million to do up her palace. We didn't have a choice..

OurBlanche · 01/05/2016 14:45

As it isn't her palace, it belongs to the tax payer, I'm not sure why that is so unfair? They paid for the fixtures and fittings (form the carpets up).

The palace is now open to the public, it is, at last, safe to do so. So the tax payer is also seeing the benefit of that.

It does help to know, and be honest about, who owns which bits of the Crown Estate (that would be us, all of it) and which bits are in private ownership (like Windsor Castle, that many people back then were moaning about having to pay for... which we, the tax payer, did not!(.

If you get that bit right then you can legitimately moan about how much the royals really do cost the tax payer... and many posters, like me, who usually get Td off by the inaccuracies, wouldn't have anything to moan about/correct!

WorraLiberty · 01/05/2016 14:50

Liz Jones has only ever come across to me as a bitter, jealous and judgemental woman.

I just can't take anything she says seriously.

AugustaFinkNottle · 01/05/2016 17:32

Flower, Margaret Thatcher was called Margaret Roberts when she first came into the public eye. Which name did you use for her?

George VI first came into the public eye as Prince Albert. What name do you call him by?

lasttimeround · 01/05/2016 18:10

Liz Jones is beyond wierd.

The vogue cover I'm a bit meh about I don't know why the look is so countrified for a vogue shoot tho. Would love something more artistic but it seems the message is currently relentlessly wholesome. I don't understand it. It's like while she's bearing heirs we all best not get any hint of sex.
Shrugs.

EponasWildDaughter · 01/05/2016 18:43

I would have preferred her looking glam. If you're going to be royal be it fgs. Why the ''jolly hard working country people just looking after their house and kids'' routine from this couple all the time, pretending to be 'normal'? You're not normal! We all know you're stinking rich and live the life of riley. Stick y'diamonds on for the photos and get out there cutting ribbons and chatting to great unwashed. Humph.

Ramaani · 01/05/2016 18:51

Surely the issue is why Vogue has rebranded to align with the Horse and Hound !

Cerseirys · 01/05/2016 18:56

She looks good without the eyeliner but the cover is a bit Horse and Hound, as the PP says. She looks more like Jennifer Connolly than herself in the red stripes though.

It does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity to feature her in some amazing gowns by British designers, no?
