To be disappointed that Kate Middleton has posed for Vogue cover

I'm ambivalent to the Royal Family but like the way Kate has taken a relatively low key approach since marrying William. I think it's a shame she's decided to pose for Vogue. Liz Jones writes:

'But here is my important problem. You only grace the cover of Vogue when you want to become an icon and have your ego massaged. You are joining the fashion elite.

Like Diana, who wanted to be a mother, a Princess, a charity worker, an everywoman, a pin-up, Kate has sold her soul to the devil that is vanity and elitism, and those fashionistas who judge others only by their BMI.

Kate, who up to now has protected her privacy and that of her children ferociously, has opened the floodgates to the sort of forensic scrutiny her late mother-in-law endured'.

I knew I'd get some stick for quoting Liz Jones Grin She just happened to make some interesting (IMHO) points.

Kate keeps a low profile in Norfolk with her children, doing occasional royal duties and now chooses to be on the cover of Vogue; nothing to do with her royal duties or charity work. Just wondered why she'd do that.

Liz Jines never has anything nice to say about anyone so I don't take any notice of her.

It's a link to an art gallery that Kate is patron of. Hardly selling herself out.

eternalopt · 01/05/2016 09:50

YABVU for quoting Liz Jones at us as if she is a rational human being with opinions that are worth listening to, and not just a mental journalist for the daily fail and part of the daily fail's "hate Kate" campaign, recently embarked on when they weren't invited to the royals ski trip!

PrimalLass · 01/05/2016 09:52

I don't se the problem. Liz Jones is a jealous, bitter, harridan.

MizK · 01/05/2016 09:53

I like Liz Jones....

Disagree with this though. KM's press coverage revolves entirely around what she is wearing and how she looks. Vogue is entirely on-brand for her. And I think the pictures are beautiful.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 01/05/2016 09:53

Is there an interview in the mag as well?

There usually is one to accompany the photos.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 01/05/2016 09:53

Is she a fashion idol?

She does wear some beautiful clothes but she always looks (to me) as if someone has chosen them for her and she isn't that bothered really.

That's not a criticism but I don't think she's a 'fashion idol'.

TimeToMuskUp · 01/05/2016 09:56

Liz Jones is an asscravat and I think Kate M actually has held herself together pretty well under the scrutiny she's received so far. She doesn't come across as a fashion idol, no, but millions of young women look up to her and, if I'm honest, she's a better role model than many young women of her generation.

Oysterbabe · 01/05/2016 09:57

Liz Jones is a professional troll.

LookBackInAnger · 01/05/2016 09:58

She's a Princess. That's what you can do when you're a princess. It means almost nothing. Diana was on the cover of Vogue and it was a damn sight more spectacular than this, does it matter? Liz Jones should not be allowed anywhere near the written word, or, venom, as I like to call it.

YesOfCourseAlways · 01/05/2016 09:58

YABU for quoting Liz Jones, she is vile.

This is the centenary issue of Vogue, so it's a big deal in fashion circles. Diana was on the Vogue cover many times, so no surprise to have Kate there.

Like it or not, the fashion industry is a huge contributor to the UK economy, much as MNers like to sneer at it. Having Kate linked to British fashion brands means that those brands make more money which is good for the economy.

Having said that I would have loved to have seen her in something more interesting and beautiful, like an Erdem or Roksanda dress, but if that was what she wanted to wear and felt comfortable in then so be it.

Birdsgottafly · 01/05/2016 09:59

I think she's the perfect choice for 'Celebrating the faces of a Century', seeming as Her Maj wouldn't have agreed to it.

I don't like the way the press build these up, to knock them down again. You really shouldn't be idolising or hating someone that isn't doing anyone any harm.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 01/05/2016 09:59

Oh come on, who wouldn't pose for Vogue if given the opportunity!

People expect this woman to be a plaster saint.

HPsauciness · 01/05/2016 10:00

I think this is a very odd choice of public things to do.

Just last week we had to witness the cringeworthy interview of her husband explaining why he doesn't want to launch himself fully into royal life, even though he's in his thirties, because he's wrapped up with his children and parenting and that takes up a huge amount of time, but it's ok because his granny understands.

I don't mind if Wills and Kate want to live an ordinary domestic life, and genuinely take a back seat, but then photos like this completely mess with this narrative!

I am feeling increasingly anti-royal lately, I don't know why, I am not intrinsically against the Royal family, but they sit so uneasily in their roles and seem to take bizarre decisions as if they are celebrities. In fact, they only seem to turn up for the good bits (tours, cover shoots for Vogue)!

Northernlurker · 01/05/2016 10:02

On principle I approve of anything Liz Jones disproves of.

The DM is campaigning against Kate in a most unpleasant way.

It was never announced that she would be doing the shamrocks this year. It was assumed she would but I suspect that William and Kate decided they have to make a point about things like that make it clear that it's them who will keep control of their lives and their schedule.

I'm not crazy about the hat picture but the stripy gate picture is lovely and shows her in a different pose than we normally see. That's one of the ones going in the National Portrtait Gallery and I think it's a very interesting statement. Albeit one that will have Johnnie Boden crying in to his beer as it would be a perfect image for the Boden catalogue.

Birdsgottafly · 01/05/2016 10:02

X post with Yes, but that's another point.

I'm Up North, but my Auntie lived in Milton Keynes and made Wedfing dresses and home sewed clothes for upmarket stores. Princess Diana's popularity helped to boost the economy.

SoupDragon · 01/05/2016 10:04

now chooses to be on the cover of Vogue; nothing to do with her royal duties or charity work

Maybe they offered her a large donation to one of her chosen charities.

Total non story!!

Marcipex · 01/05/2016 10:04

She looks very pretty, the hat is awful and rather small on her too...I can't get upset about it though.

DoesFlossfloss · 01/05/2016 10:06

Diana was on the Vogue cover many times, so no surprise to have Kate there

It's partly because of Diana posing for Vogue that I'm surprised Kate has done so.

And although DM and LJ haters - at least I didn't provide a link to the Mail; I very kindly posted the photios!

The way Vogue likes its covers, it would have been Kate Moss otherwise.

I suppose the next best thing was real royalty, the Queen was out of the question, though maybe she would have been game, seeing as she seems to enjoy the spoof videos, Camilla not appropriate because of her baggage, so Kate was perfect for it.

Shame she's wearing a Petit Bateau instead of a British label.
I'd like to know is responsible for those browswho did her make-up.

lljkk · 01/05/2016 10:06

Oh FFS, if KM stood on her head posing nude for Ms. I would not care. YABU.

AppleSetsSail · 01/05/2016 10:07

^Has the Queen ever been in Vogue? I wonder what she thinks of it.
Kate married into royalty, not the Kardashian family. If this is the way the monarchy is headed I don't think it will last.^

Vogue/AW was so very wrong to put KK on the cover. This might have been the one good reason for Kate to give it a miss, but on balance it still seems just fine to me.

OnYerBikePan · 01/05/2016 10:10

"Oh FFS, if KM stood on her head posing nude for Ms. I would not care"
Might be of greater interest.

Loos like a photo shoot for Boden or M&S.

bakeoffcake · 01/05/2016 10:10

You lost me at LJ.

She'll write anything to get a headline and people clicking.

OnYerBikePan · 01/05/2016 10:10

or looks even.
