The US is fiercely protective of it's (sic) borders, to the point of paranoia. I can't see them demanding freedom of movement with the EU

I meant freedom of movement one way, USA to EU. There is a great deal of unemployment in parts of the US. And as to their paranoia as you call it, it has every right to be diligent. Years and years ago some of you will recall that USA virtually had no benefits system, except Unemployment Benefit for those who had worked and even that was time-limited. But now America has become very much like Britain and is no longer recognisable as the beast of capitalism.

It's not a typo, which we all make in our haste. Fundamentally you have never understood the difference between the two - that's my point. Ditto with affect and effect, I've noticed.

I have an open mind, I like to look at a situation from all angles and understand that what you may consider outlandish has already been tried or done elsewhere at some stage in our history. You, on the other hand, seem not to be able to comprehend that what we are allowed to glimpse on the surface belies worlds within worlds, whorls within whorls.

This has been a really interesting thread. I would hate to see it descend into mud slinging and get deleted. Can you not just agree to disagree, or put forward your arguments civilly?

AnnaForbes · 16/04/2016 15:59

I agree, sad that Eels feels the need to hurl insults. Appalling really.
