DH has just decided to 'wind down' listening to them tonight. I forgot he liked them, but have just been subjected to their 'greatest' hits. I genuinely forgot blocked out the trauma of just how crap they really are.
Wailing music, gobby frontmen, repetitive lyrics, and bigger egos than Donald Trump.

Maybe I'm 20 years too late for this AIBU, but had to ask. They are shit, aren't they?

I grew up in the Britpop era, and was asked whether I was a Blur or Oasis girl.

I was neither, I loved The Prodigy Grin

You fire starter, you.

mollkat · 28/02/2016 20:26

I loved them, and my husband and I were embarrassing in our groupieesque behaviour following them all over the place Grin

Sparklingbrook · 28/02/2016 20:27

Singers can be knobbers but still be quite good. Not in this case though. Grin

Blur were meh too. I think I was busy doing other stuff in the 90s, having got my good band fill in the 80s. Wink

VioletVaccine · 28/02/2016 20:28

Vertigo twisted and trouble starting and the like Grin

Did you ever see Eastenders Tiff sing fire starter?

jeremyisahunt · 28/02/2016 20:33

I know someone who works with Noel. He's apparently very polite, hard-working, and down-to-earth.

ManneryTowers · 28/02/2016 20:34

YANBU. Saw them V Festival 2005 and they were rubbish. Saw Beady Eye Glastonbury 2013 and half of them were still rubbish.
Worse have spawned copycatters like The Enemy who are most possibly the world's ugliest band. They used 'rock and roll star' as their warm up track so you got drenched in bottles of wee before they even came on.
And for any girl who has ever come away from a festival or gig with wet hair, sorry but it's wee no matter what your boyfriend tells you!

vienna1981 · 28/02/2016 20:36

Noel seems like a reasonable fellow. I'm not sure if Liam ever grew up. But together they were Oasis (among other band members, of course) and they were awful, dreadful, balderdash.

Shirkingfromhome · 28/02/2016 20:36

I wasn't an Oasis fan either but it was less about them and more about the fact that all the boys at my college developed the swagger walk and nasally voice. I lived in Norfolk.

honeyroar · 28/02/2016 20:40

Some of their songs were superb, a lot were boring. Liam was a spectacularly arrogant twat. Noel was a little bit better. I preferred Blur generally.

Ps the slowly walking down the hall line was about being high on drugs..

OliviaDunham · 28/02/2016 20:45

I loved them and Blur, still listen to Oasis but not Blur anymore - they sounded horrendous live last year, time for Damon to give up, him bouncing around like he did 20 odd years ago just doesn't work.

BeverlyGoldberg · 28/02/2016 20:45

YABU Oasis are brilliant and so are the Arctic Monkeys

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/02/2016 20:49

Loved them , summer of '94 before all the Blur vs Oasis crap. Went to see them at Newcastle Riverside , they played about two songs before one of the crowd punched Noel.
Went off them a bit in later years but fond memories of Supersonic .

AuldYow · 28/02/2016 20:50

YABU I loved Oasis, Liam not so much but Noel is fab.

Ubik1 · 28/02/2016 20:52

Yes oasis were/are shite.

A series of non sequiturs set to nursery rhymes. Nonsensical. Pud rock.

But at least they had some attitude

Pedallleur · 28/02/2016 21:09

Most of the descriptions here could fit a lot of bands BUT for a brief moment Oasis had it. They had attitude, songs and energy and made a lot of people want to be in a band. GnR were the same when they broke thro'. For a couple of oiks Liam and Noel did ok and in true rock fashion went from rags to riches. They could have been bigger but thankfully imploded.

ChristmasEvePJs · 28/02/2016 21:12

YABVVVVVVVVU!

BabyGanoush · 28/02/2016 21:16

Yanbu

The were part of that whoke new labour luvvis set weren't they?

Remember them saying they were bigger than the Beatles

Egos as big as Kanye

Hulababy · 28/02/2016 21:18

I liked oasis. Saw them at Knebworth and it was fab. Noel always had more talent though.

NorbertDentressangle · 28/02/2016 21:22

Oasis were the soundtrack to a fanasttic holiday in Spain with 6 mates in a 1 bedroomed apartment when we were in our early 20s.

Those were the days! Grin

But yeah, they were a bit shit weren't they?

YaySirNaySir · 28/02/2016 21:23

Yabu "Don't look back in anger"
One of the best end of the night, pissed people with arms around each other singing loudly songs ever
ime Smile

MoonriseKingdom · 28/02/2016 21:31

Definitely a Blur girl here. Damon Albarn has had a far more musically interesting and diverse career post Blur than anything the Gallaghers have got up to. I have also seen Graham Coxon doing his solo stuff live and he really is a great guitar player. (Best not to mention the monumental twat that is Alex James though).

claig · 28/02/2016 21:46

YABU. They made some very memorable songs that have stood the test of time. I can't remember any good Blur ones.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/02/2016 21:50

I like both Blur and Oasis. The rivalry was created by the media , pile of shite unless you were 12.
