That's it really, more details to follow, but do you like marzipan or not?

Janeymoo50 · 08/02/2016 17:19

Yes love it (off to eat a Mr Kiplings mini Battenburg).

WilLiAmHerschel · 08/02/2016 17:20

Interestingly (or probably not) I could take or leave marmite. I mean I like it, but I wouldn't say I love it.

tibbawyrots · 08/02/2016 18:50

Marzipan with a glass of Amaretto. Delicious!

adds marzipan to shopping list

HappyGirlNow · 08/02/2016 18:51

tibba that is my idea of absolute hell... Urgh... Grin

I like to make korvapuusti (cinnamon buns) with bits of marzipan rolled up in them. Delicious!

SaucyJack · 08/02/2016 19:52

Does korvapuusti translate to pus cave?

(Cos it should)

ThirtyNineWeeks · 08/02/2016 19:53

It's Satan's spunk.

TiggyD · 08/02/2016 19:54

I'm lovin' it.

bedraggledmumoftwo · 08/02/2016 20:11

Another block eater here. Hate Marmite though. I always think the icing ruins the marzipan rather than the other way round. I would dye marzipan and skip the icing altogether, does have to be on fruit cake though , or simnel cake, or Tunis cake or battenburg.... Never seen it under icing on anything except fruit.

whyayepetal · 08/02/2016 20:15

Happy I am with you!

maggiethemagpie · 08/02/2016 21:24

I love proper expensive marzipan, yes.

tilliebob · 08/02/2016 21:29

Detest it, the smell of it makes me boke. My best mate adores it though so I buy good stuff for her and it can sit in our house unmolested and unsnaffled for weeks as none of the 5 of us eat it.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 08/02/2016 21:30

fuck no!

ratspeaker · 08/02/2016 21:31

I hate marzipan.
I'm not fond of almonds either.
I can smell cyanide.
My DDs hate marzipan but I have no idea if they can smell cyanide.

At Christmas I have to make several cakes, those with marzipan and those without.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/02/2016 21:47

The first time DH met my parents he was given marzipan cake . He ate it and only admitted ages later he was retching as he hated it so much . Knew he was a keeper !!

SaucyJack · 08/02/2016 22:18

"Some people have a genetic defect which makes them unably to smell cyanide. I have a theory these are the people that love marzipan."

I thought you were just pissing around here Lurking, but I Googled out of interest anyway and it appears to be a fairly solid scientific theory.

It'd certainly explain the extreme aversion some of us have to the stuff. Genuinely Quite Interesting.

StitchesInTime · 08/02/2016 22:21

I can smell almonds. I assume that means I'd be able to smell cyanide, although given how lethal cyanide is, I have no desire to test that theory.

I love marzipan.

theycallmemellojello · 08/02/2016 22:25

I'm not a fan. If get the cake without marzipan, as others have said it's a waste if half the guests are picking it off. Maybe you can get some lovely marzipan fruits as a nice present for your dh to console him!

SmallGreenBouncyBall · 08/02/2016 22:39

I can smell the difference between bitter almond (cyanide) and sweet almonds.
and I love marzipan.

JenEric · 08/02/2016 22:46

Love marzipan but on fruit cake or by itself/choc covered. Big NO to being on a sponge.

Natsku · 09/02/2016 07:35

*Does korvapuusti translate to pus cave?

(Cos it should)* It translates to a 'smacked ear' I suppose the person who named it thought it looked like a smacked and swollen ear...

EarSlaps · 09/02/2016 22:55

Yes, korvapuusti means ear slaps, it's where I got my username from Grin. Amazing Finnish cinnamon and cardamom spiced swirls.

holeinmyheart · 09/02/2016 23:01

No neither me nor my Dh like it.

TabbyM · 10/02/2016 15:48

I love marzipan, especially on Christmas cake. Recently discovered Princess cake when in Sweden, is very lovely. Did try a cooking block once but was a bit much...

StillDrSethHazlittMD · 10/02/2016 15:57

Yep, another block eater. I'll happily go and buy a block, cut slices off and just eat them. Heavenly. I hate fruit cake, so at weddings I tend to hunt out the people who don't like marzipan and swap them the icing and marzipan they've left on their plate for my cake.
