Could Donald Trump be the next Hitler?

I pray to God he doesn't get elected as the next president but after just watching the C4 documentary about him, I fear for the future of the USA and consequently the world. Hitler was once a joke but then economic conditions changed and people wanted answers and Hitler was able to blame much of Germany's ills on the Jews much like Trump is doing with Mexicans, Muslims etc. His supporters seen equally fanatical and not open to any kind of rational debate. It really fucking scares me, the world seems to becoming much more intolerant and if economic conditions deteriorate further I worry about what will happen. Please do tell me IABU but I feel bloody uneasy about this...

I'm not Claig under another name -- honest . It seems to me though you could put any of the candidates under the microscope and come up with a similar type of documentary. I saw it, and was wondering why there is such an attempt, right across the political spectrum, to destroy him and his chances?

I think his appeal with the masses is that he just lacks the polish, the pr approved speeches, the stage managed slickness, and doesn't seem to care about it. People are so sick of being let down by politicians. Why not try him out? People like Trump saying the outrageous things he says. 'He has balls' is the perception. Saying things the others are too scared to say in public.

Nataleejah · 27/01/2016 09:29

He's a distraction. He spews outrageous bullshit so any other shithead would look good next to him.

batshitlady · 27/01/2016 10:20

But they all do Nataleejah. Trump just does it in his own raw and buffoonish style.

But Hitler really? I think that's going a bit far. I can't see Trump authorising mass purges, political murders, mass censorship. Hitler’s ‘final solution’ involved the indiscriminate and deliberate annihilation of millions of civilians. So get a grip OP please!

mimishimmi · 27/01/2016 10:22

The rise of fascism has been on the cards since 2001

JessicaJones · 27/01/2016 10:28

This is an interesting comment on how Trump isn't the next Hitler, but compares him to Henry Ford in 1924 and the rise of antisemitism in America.

JessicaJones · 27/01/2016 10:30

Sorry, posted too soon. Apparently Hitler held Ford up as an inspiration. So Trump isn't the new Hitler, but could end up inspiring somebody out there to become so.

CrystalMcPistol · 27/01/2016 10:47

The thing I find most bizarre about it all (and about American politics in general) is that a man whose career has been entirely about self promotion and increasing his own personal billions, someone who has no experience in politics, can be seen as a worthy candidate for the presidency!

It would be like Duncan Bannantyne deciding to become PM.

PausingFlatly · 27/01/2016 10:58

I thought he'd LOST some of the personal billions he inherited, because so many of his businesses have flopped: Time Magazine: 8 Epic Business Failures with Donald Trump’s Name on Them

whattodowiththepoo · 27/01/2016 10:59

JESUS CHRIST.
He isn't going to be the next hitler and anyone that thinks he is is a moron.
It is literally impossible for Donald trump to ever cause genocide, He's a moron but luckily not everyone in the American government is.

AcrossthePond55 · 27/01/2016 13:51

For those wondering how Trump appeals to the 'masses', this is my own opinion but a great deal of American 'identity' in quite a few quarters is deeply rooted in a combination of the 'Cowboy' and the 'Self-Made Man', the two historical 'American Heroes'. Trump's PR machine is doing a good job of portraying him as both; 'Rugged individualist riding across the range with 6 guns a-blazing' ("That Trump really says what he means! He doesn't give a shit") and 'He is so smart because he made piles of money that his Daddy started him out with ' ("That Trump made himself rich. He'll get this country out of the depression with his money smarts").

spankhurst · 27/01/2016 13:57

The C4 doc last night was deeply worrying though. He really is a monstrously unpleasant individual, up to and very probably including raping his first wife (she admitted this in a sworn affidavit). He also insulted a woman who questioned him by saying that she must have 'blood coming out of her wherever'. Someone said that he had a personality disorder and I tend to agree.

Want2bSupermum · 27/01/2016 14:00

I don't have a problem with Trumps failed businesses. I think he has been rather humble about it. I also don't believe in this 'if he had done nothing he would be richer' argument.

My issue is firmly with his policies. Not clear enough and what he has said leaves me scratching my head. It's not coherent policy that is consistent.

I do however think that if he goes after HC she could lose the election. I know there is a documentary where they said DT assaulted his then wife Ivanka Trump. Well that is small fry compared to what Bill Clinton has lurking in his closet. There was a lady linked to the Paula jones case that accused Bill Clinton of rape. She was asked to retract her statement and refused to. I always felt sorry for all 3 women and strongly believe something inappropriate happened. Not sure exactly what but BC was very slimy getting himself out of trouble. If my Dh had been inappropriate with an intern I wouldn't be sticking around. There is a big question mark there over Hcs integrity.

I'd have a problem voting for someone who'd had four business bankruptcies. Not exactly a safe pair of hands for the economy.

I think both Putin and Trump are very scary, but even they aren't as scary as Kim Jong-un.

wasonthelist · 27/01/2016 14:25

Is Kim Jong Un running for US president ?

VertigoNun · 27/01/2016 14:46

The unholy trinity.

Varya · 27/01/2016 14:49

Just hope he never becomes the US president.

Stratter5 · 27/01/2016 15:46

Watching it now. Him and Sarah Palin.

Speechless.

God help the world if he gets in and he and Putin have a stand off :(

Alfieisnoisy · 27/01/2016 16:01

I saw somewhere a quote supposedly from Trump 20 or so years ago where he was quoted as saying if he ran for President it would be as a Repub,I can as they are the most stupid and gullible voters who believe anything they see on Fox News.

An American friend of mine suspects Trump doesn't even want the job and this is all a huge publicity stunt. Many moderate Republicans want him out as he does their cause no good at all and is making them look idiotic.

wol1968 · 27/01/2016 16:38

How can anyone take seriously a man whose surname is a slang term for a loud fart?

toofunny · 27/01/2016 16:45

I hope you all signed the petition to keep him out of this country! Not that it will make any difference, because he's rich and we only ban poor people, but it lets the establishment know our views on fascists.

AcrossthePond55 · 27/01/2016 17:51

Well, dammit toofunny.

I got all excited & started searching for a petition to kick him out of the US before I realized that you were talking about the UK. Grin

batshitlady · 27/01/2016 17:55

he and Putin have a stand off

Trump has said he can 'do business with Putin' (or words to that effect). Saying such a thing of course is sacrilege in Washington where all the other candidates say they're happy to confront The Russians in the air over Syria. Which could cause WW bloody 3.

I'm not a fan of the man but if anything Trump is talking more sense here than the other nut jobs. BTW you won't get an objective view from a Channel 4 documentary Stratter . The political establishment and their media lackeys are out to assassinate Trump. Put any of the other 'acceptable' candidates under the microscope and we could reach the conclusion that we all have about Trump.

Do people really think Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush are is less monstrous? They just do it with way more slickness than the buffoonish Trump.
