To think there should be a fast lane in coffee shops?

I am boring have simple requirements in the morning. I go to the same coffee shop beside my office and get the same order (cappuchino and croissant). I even sometimes have the exact change in my hand. All I want is to get my coffee and get to my desk.

Every morning this week there have been people who couldn't make up their mind, or wanted the staff to make something out of the ordinary. This morning we had "do you do cheese sandwiches, oh, you have sandwiches over there, let me look at them while the people with me are changing their minds 6 times about what scone to have, oh, can you not just make a plain cheese sandwich" Angry

First of all, who on earth wants a cheese sandwich at 9am, and second of all aaaarrrgghh Angry

So. Fast lane for people who don't faff? I may be U as I haven't finished my coffee yet

I agree!

TheHouseOnTheLane · 15/01/2016 09:24

YABU. Leave earlier in the morning so you have time to actually live life.

WickedWax · 15/01/2016 09:25

YANBU.

Katenka · 15/01/2016 09:27

Yanbu. Why do people get in the queue if they don't know what they want.

They should have a 'if you know what you want' aisle and a 'stand here and make your mind up' aisle. Grin

MorrisZapp · 15/01/2016 09:28

Where I am, we need a 'groups of tourists, especially those aged under 25' lane. Or perhaps just have a holding section where they can all give each other extended, expectant looks and usher each other forwards before actually entering the queue.

gleegeek · 15/01/2016 09:29

I'd like a fast lane for tea drinkers! I'm fed up waiting for hundreds of frothy coffee mocha skinny whatevers to be made while my teabag in a cup takes seconds!

Only1scoop · 15/01/2016 09:31

Yanbu

Had to wait yesterday for my Americano whilst someone was creating a heart attack in a cup with syrup and shit and then moaning because they wanted marshmallows and cream.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 15/01/2016 09:32

Oh for me the annoying thing is wanting a tea which takes about 5 seconds to make and someone in front orders some complex coffee thing that requires milk foaming and sprinkles and what not. Drives me mad. Even worse when they're ordering for 6 people

"Oh what did Tracy want again? Is that a decaff skinny latte? Oh no wait, it's a decaff extra hot skinny moccachino with 1/2 a sugar and whipped cream, but not quite to the top so it's not touching the lid and chocolate on top. Oh and David wanted..." Angry

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 15/01/2016 09:34

YANBU, except that of course everyone would join it because they all think their order is dead simple and won't take long!

It's the worst thing about coffee shops - everything takes so bloody long because it's one at a time!

RiverTam · 15/01/2016 09:37

Fast last for non-coffee drinkers. You with your cappuccino are just as annoying!

MorrisZapp · 15/01/2016 09:40

In Starbucks the cash point people make the tea, so you do get it straight away while the skinny frothy orders are stacked up along the coffee machine. It's a pretty good system, I have tea most days.

At least now most people are savvy enough not to wander off with the first coffee that comes out. I had mine 'stolen' many times in the early days of coffee shop culture!

Drogon · 15/01/2016 09:44

YADNBU OP!! I work in a cafe and the customers who spend ages deciding what they want when they've been in the queue 20 minutes!! really piss me off!

People in a large group should be required to write their order down, including any extras like cream, sprinkles, syrup, skinny milk etc etc

If it's any consolation we do serve probably 2 or 3 people at the same time to try and keep the queue going quickly. And any regulars we see in the queue who's order is always the same we start way earlier so by the time they come to pay their stuff is sorted!

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2016 09:47

YANBU. But IMO coffee isn't all that and certainly not worth queuing up ten deep for in the morning.

FadedRed · 15/01/2016 09:48

Take a flask. Buy a pack of croissants from the supermarket and put them in the freezer, then take one out each morning, it'll have defrosted by the time you get to work. No queuing and you'll save a fortune. Sorted. Grin

I agree with you Sparkling but our office doesn't have any tea making facilities and I can't get through the day without a cup of tea!

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2016 09:52

OMG One isn't that breaching some rule? Shock

FerrisBueller1972 · 15/01/2016 09:53

There should be a fast lane for everything IMO.

Anotherusername1 · 15/01/2016 09:54

Sadly not. I've worked in a surprising number of places with no kitchens for staff to use. They've had vending machines, and maybe a cafe that was open for an hour or so at lunchtime but the rest of the day you couldn't get a drink unless you used the disgusting vending machines or went out.

Sparklingbrook · 15/01/2016 09:54

Aldi and Lidl really need self service checkouts. Bit OT but I pop in for one thing and always get behind all the trolleys.

Anotherusername1 · 15/01/2016 09:54

Sorry my response was to Sparkling.

Anotherusername1 · 15/01/2016 09:55

Apparently some Lidls do have self-checkouts because a friend posted something on Facebook the other day about losing it with one, so they obviously exist.

hufflebottom · 15/01/2016 09:55

Can we do the same for petrol stations too? For those that only want to pay for their petrol and not getting a weeks worth of shopping.

vvviola · 15/01/2016 09:56

Well yes Faded I could, but that's all far too practical and a pain to carry on the train. But the takeaway coffee is a little ritual that gets me across the threshold into work and starts the day gently.

And it would all be lovely if people didn't insist on faffing.

Hm. I think I may need another coffee. This one doesn't seem to have helped my mood...

That's good news Another, they are building a huge Lidl not too far away so hopefully they will have them then.

Pay at the Pump is the best thing ever and should be available at all petrol stations.
