to object to MNHQ forcing a MALE/FEMALE gender binary on my account.

I don't have any GENDER.

My MN account forces me to pick from two 'genders'.

I can't even opt out, it's a forced binary choice.

I'm not agender, pangender, cisgender, transgender, male gender, female gender or ANY GENDER.

If you want to know my sex, I am happy to provide that information. But you'll have to add that in as a field, because it doesn't exist currently.

Sex and gender are not the same thing. If you insist on collecting data by gender and making it a forced choice I would like an option as follows:

"Reject gender as a harmful, made up, bullshit concept".

Then when you analyse your account database you can say
X% identify as female gender
Y% identify as male gender
Z% reject gender as a bullshit concept.

AIBU to request MNHQ to alter my account details so that they do not misrepresent me?

I'm just disappointed that the OP didn't stand by her principles by not registering which would have saved having to read this utter bullshit.

DeAtHnOtE · 14/01/2016 17:40

Riviera, I cannot read your name without the little guitar flourish sounding in my head. I now need to re-watch Red Dwarf.

venusinscorpio · 14/01/2016 17:41

Funnily enough, it is that kind of internet idiocy which is taken seriously and validated by authorities/site moderators etc. Would you say the same about racism, Gruntled?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 14/01/2016 17:47

Anyone feel like checking through misslansbanana's posting history to make sure she's never posted about anything that isn't what the rest of us consider a life or death situation?

BeyondCBA · 14/01/2016 17:48

It was a relevant example. Did i say all trans-people are like that?
Do you want us prefacing all comments with NATALT? 🙄

RufusTheReindeer · 14/01/2016 17:53

I agree with the OP

bakeoffcake · 14/01/2016 17:54

Just wanted to say that I haven't ticked make OR female on that particular question Or date of birth.
I don't see why MNHQ need my personal details.

Sansoora · 14/01/2016 17:57

Oh dear god. Just when you think it cant get anymore confusing and bloody off putting it does.

Please, please be whatever the hell you want but just leave the rest of us alone in our boring lives where we really couldn't care less and we're quite happy for you to just get on with it.

venusinscorpio · 14/01/2016 18:04

I think there are some posters here who think Carrot wishes to be considered non binary trans, like Jack Monroe.

RivieraKid · 14/01/2016 18:13

I thought Carrot just wanted to opt out of a binary gendered system of poster classification, sex notwithstanding as that option isn't apparently given.

venusinscorpio · 14/01/2016 18:30

Yes but I think some people have misinterpreted her post and think she's disappointed she has to conform to a gender because she's non binary.

venusinscorpio · 14/01/2016 18:32

As non binary as a label you would actively apply to yourself, rather than a person saying "gender is a bullshit made up concept and the proper classification would be biological sex."

venusinscorpio · 14/01/2016 18:33

As in

venusinscorpio · 14/01/2016 18:34

Aaargh, can't type.

BaconPancakessss · 14/01/2016 18:49

If you have no gender then you are agender if you were born female and present yourself as one then you're a woman believe it or not. You can decide that gender is made up but so are most things used to describe people

WindyMillersProbationOfficer · 14/01/2016 19:06

But agender doesn't mean 'has no gender'. It means you still subscribe to the idea of gender identity but don't think you have one personally. There's no pomo-approved word for those of us who don't have a gender identity and don't think it's a thing at all.

Iggi999 · 14/01/2016 19:07

I suspect the OP knows she's a woman, what the Jeff has that got to do with gender?

FreshHorizons · 14/01/2016 19:09

I think people should stick to worrying about things that really matter.

RivieraKid · 14/01/2016 19:14

I think some people have misinterpreted her post and think she's disappointed she has to conform to a gender because she's non binary.

tbh that's how I originally read the OP, hence my not-very-helpful pointer towards the term agender, which as discussed is not appropriate. Only later in the thread did I get the points re: deconstruction of gender as a whole.

I now need to re-watch Red Dwarf.

Mission accomplished Grin

BaconPancakessss · 14/01/2016 19:20

Agender is a term which can be literally translated as 'without gender'. It can be seen either as a non-binary gender identity or as a statement of not having a gender identity. People who identify as agender may describe themselves as one or more of the following: Genderless or lacking gender
Straight from the gender wiki page

0phelia · 14/01/2016 19:23

Agender people have a biological sex instead.

WindyMillersProbationOfficer · 14/01/2016 19:23

Thankfully I'm not bound by the laws of gender wiki, so I'll continue not having a gender identity without being 'agender', thanks all the same.

limitedperiodonly · 14/01/2016 19:23

Things That Really Matter. That's a profound topic. Perhaps you ought to start a thread on it.

0phelia · 14/01/2016 19:26

Agender respects biology more than transgender, and is more honest.

I am agender. I am female.
Why? I have a shaved head, ovaries and periods, am flat-chested, love children, I also do manual labour and baroque music for a living.
