AIBU to find Kate Middleton really annoying ? It's probably just me but I find her so smug. Anyway feel much better for getting that off my chest !!!

OP posts:

I love the assumption that people live near their parents and siblings.
Its so lower class Wink

riverwalk · 28/09/2015 21:03

Can everyone put their hand up who wouldn't have republican sympathies if Princess Anne was next in line?
I think I'd be even more republican inclined if that were so. I can't stand the woman, and hate the way her scowling and bad temper is excused by the ridiculous "she doesn't suffer fools gladly" comments.

twoboystwogirls · 28/09/2015 21:13

I think Kate is lovely, and I say that as an Irish Nationalist and a feminist. She chose this life and does it well. She is thoughtful to her family and devoted to them. She has never as far as I know, harmed anyone or tried to hurt them. She has just done what she thought was right for her life. Granted, I would wish for more for my own daughters, but I would support their choice.

Sorry for rambling...have a newborn and am seriously sleep deprived!!

harshbuttrue1980 · 28/09/2015 21:18

I like Princess Anne - she always comes near the top of the annual royal engagements list. The reason why I criticise Kate's childcare arrangements is that we are paying for her to sit on her backside. I can't imagine what she actually DOES all day - the nanny to look after the children, the housekeeper, the PA...lots of flunkies for someone to do a couple of engagements a month. She didn't seem to do much before she had george either - but then she was "settling in". I wonder what her excuse will be when her kids are packed off at boarding school? People who stay at home to raise their children contribute to society. People who go to work contribute to society. Kate can't be rsed to do either, and she is totally wasting the good she could do - she's about as useful as a Kardashian, but we don't pay for the Kardashians.

I have no idea what she stands for (except looking pretty). Anne - Save the Children. Charles - the Princes Trust. Diana - landmines and HIV. Camilla - osteoporosis research. Kate?? I'm a republican, but I have to admit to a fondness to the hard workers in the Windsor family - I really admire the Queen for the fact that she is still working at her age.

When the Queen is gone and William is the heir, they'll have to step up or I doubt the British people will tolerate them for much longer.

For the people who really like her - what do you actually like about her?

Ta1kinPeace · 28/09/2015 21:25

harshbut
We pay for Beatrice and Eugenie to do even less
why the ire at Kate who has two small children

and I really do not get the ire about rich mums who choose to not work and use nannies
Kate is nothing out of the ordinary compared with other wealthy mums

Booyaka · 28/09/2015 21:35

We don't fund Beatrice and Eugenie, they are funded entirely by their fathers private income. Eugenie has a job and Beatrice is studying. I really don't think you can compare the two.

But she's doing her job. They don't want another Diana to frighten the horses. She's not too popular, she won't frighten the horses. Job done.

merrymouse · 28/09/2015 21:36

I don't think Diana had much to do with land mines and HIV when here children were under 3.

You are assigning qualities to complete strangers based on very little.

Be a republican because the system of monarchy is undemocratic, not because you think the Cambridges should look after their children differently.

Ta1kinPeace · 28/09/2015 21:38

booyaka
they are funded entirely by their fathers private income
What income would that be?
Oh yes, his income from the Royal list as the favourite son of the Queen.
Eugenie has a job
That pays for her lifestyle?
Beatrice is studying
What and where?

riverwalk · 28/09/2015 21:39

The big difference with other wealthy mums who have nannys and the like is the fact that they have earned their money themselves and aren't funded by the taxpayer.

TheIncomparableDejahThoris · 28/09/2015 21:40

Strictly speaking, I believe the Duchy of Cornwall and those people who buy the Prince of Wales's organic biscuits* pay for Kate to "sit on her arse".

^ and I really do not get the ire about rich mums who choose to not work and use nannies
Kate is nothing out of the ordinary compared with other wealthy mums^

Careful. I tried to make that point earlier and it went very badly wrong. It must be the way I tell 'em.

He's expanded into organic vegetable seeds now. I know because I refused to buy any when my ultra-posh toddle-waddle wanted to buy them.

*I blame Mr Bloom.

riverwalk · 28/09/2015 21:44

The queen does do well to work at her age, not many would have the stamina, probably something to do with the fact that they've had a lifetime of hard work, caring for home and children and struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table. The queen has her own private physician and literally gets everything done for her, no wonder she's still going strong.

TheIncomparableDejahThoris · 28/09/2015 21:44

P.S. Riverwalk disliking Anne more is refreshing variety on these threads. I salute you for being an individual and keeping MN interesting.

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/09/2015 21:45

river

So did her father and he still died young?

TheIncomparableDejahThoris · 28/09/2015 21:48

Nah, agree with riverwalk there. The standard of care available to the Queen as an elderly monarch is both superior to the care my gran would have today and the care her father had in the 1950s.

Ta1kinPeace · 28/09/2015 21:49

Alis
Her dad had rather a lot of stress to do with his brother
was the king during WW2 and the anti monarchist sentiment of that time
its not really a surprise he died younger

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/09/2015 21:50

I'm not saying River is wrong just that longevity is often luck of the draw, though can of course be aided by access to tip top medical care, it isn't always.

Invariably when reading about the "oldest person in the world", they're not some mega rich person who lived a life of leisure or really had access to that much medical care.

Booyaka · 28/09/2015 21:57

Talk1n, that's wrong. The only state funding Prince Andrew receives is to fund his own personal work as a Royal. The phrase is 'private income', it's not from the Queen or the state. I know it's partially made up of a Royal Navy pension and I expect he has land and investments too. So the money spent on his daughters will not originate in state coffers. I don't know if Eugenie's job covers her lifestyle, I expect not as she lives in NY. But the initial post was about whether they were less busy than Kate so I think it's a fair point to raise that one of them works. Beatrice is studying finance somewhere in the US.

pinkfrocks · 28/09/2015 21:59

The reason why I criticise Kate's childcare arrangements is that we are paying for her to sit on her backside

So you know what she does all day? Fly on her wall?

we pay for millions of people to sit on their backsides all day (Benefits Street anyone?) and they don't have quite the same pull for tourists, which bring in rather a lot of income for George.

Booyaka · 28/09/2015 21:59

Her father died young because he smoked eleventy billion fags per day.

katemiddletonsothermum · 28/09/2015 22:00

this is what she does for work

and this

I particularly like the roller disco one.

PS: I've clicked on the links and my laptop hasn't blown up so it should be ok Grin

pinkfrocks · 28/09/2015 22:01

My parents are the same age as the Queen and still as fit- all thanks to a hard life bringing me up, being bombed out of their homes in WW2 and scraping a living. Oh and they use the NHS. Works wonders, I tell you.

Ta1kinPeace · 28/09/2015 22:03

Booyaka
So the money spent on his daughters will not originate in state coffers
You really think a junior Navy pension can pay for his house and the tens of thousands he spends on his daughters each year.
GET REAL
Of course he gets funded extensively by Buck House

When I saw all of the Royals at a Garden Party he looked and acted like an utter slime ball - and did not need protection as all the punters ignored him.

Beatrice is studying finance somewhere in the US.
Beless.
Where, what, who with
Just that she and her sis seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on holiday

Booyaka · 28/09/2015 22:29

Oh FFS. It's not hard just google it. He doesn't get funded for anything outside his Royal work by the public purse, the Royal Family are independently wealthy aside from public funds. Just claiming it over and over again doesn't make it any truer. They haven't released the details of where Beatrice is, but her mother confirmed she had begun a finance qualification in the US in February. I'm not a fan of either of them, but to say they're lounging around on holiday at the taxpayers expense is nonsense. We don't even fund their police protection anymore.

riverwalk · 28/09/2015 22:34

Just that she and her sis seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on holiday
Yes Booyaka and that seems to be the same with the lot of them. Any royal with a job seems to be able to come and go as and when they want. No fear of getting the sack, they come and go as they please, they certainly won't let work get in the way of their enjoyment, it is more like a hobby to them, something to do when there's nothing else going on. Bone idle most of them.
