Was just out cycling and came across this. Seems quite threatening to me and as I was on my own I turned back even though I needed to go down it to complete the loop I'd planned.

Is this a joke, you seriously turned around? ffs get a grip.

catfordbetty · 13/09/2015 17:14

A child did this, surely?

MangoBiscuit · 13/09/2015 17:15

What's the picture supposed to be?

MangoBiscuit · 13/09/2015 17:15

I mean, I can read the sign, but I can't see what the bit in white is.

OneBreathAfterAnother · 13/09/2015 17:16

Is that a picture of a dog?

I think it's intended as an amusing warning, and it probably didn't occur to them that anyone would deem it threatening at all, let alone turn around.

SmokingGun · 13/09/2015 17:17

I take it you were on a public road? If so why would you turn back? What did you expect to encounter?

littleducks · 13/09/2015 17:17

There is a house with a sign on the wall stating "don't even think of parking here" near here, I will always park on the public road on front of it. You obv haven't embraced your inner rebel!

twirlypoo · 13/09/2015 17:20

Did you really turn around?! Grin

Was it a private road?

RebootYourEngine · 13/09/2015 17:23

Just looks like someone has forgotten when halloween is.

LooseSeal · 13/09/2015 17:23

The picture looks to me like a "ghost" carrying it's head under its arm.

Rufusgy · 13/09/2015 17:25

Just to add some context it was a narrow road,In the country no one near or to hear if I screamed. I was out of breath, exaused and vonrable on my bike.

SmokingGun · 13/09/2015 17:27

oh dear, it's clearly just someone having a laugh. Serial killers don't tend to forewarn victims with signs....

LimitedSedition · 13/09/2015 17:29

That looks like a leftover from some sort of zombie event or something.

Snoozebox · 13/09/2015 17:29

Oh fgs it's just part of a ghost walk, social event or just a prank.

chemenger · 13/09/2015 17:32

My guess would be that there was a series of signs leading either to a party or some event in a pub or similar. I think someone who intended harm to random passers by would not have spent time making such an elaborate sign. Mrsdevere is right, though, if it was clowns rather than ghosts or big dogs I would have been out of there like a shot.

PoppyBlossom · 13/09/2015 17:36

Daave you considered getting medical help for your a anxiety?

PoppyBlossom · 13/09/2015 17:37

*Have you

Longdistance · 13/09/2015 17:37

Why didn't you just pick it up and shove it in the bush?

FayKorgasm · 13/09/2015 17:37

Emmmmmmmmm. Ok.

AndDeepBreath · 13/09/2015 17:38

Um ... Really?

TrionicLettuce · 13/09/2015 17:39

Who knows why it's there but it's a reference to Labyrinth, those big stone heads that try and turn Sarah and Hoggle back. The picture is one of the heads.

Copied from IMDB:

First Statue: Don't go on...
Second Statue: Go back, while you still can...
Third Statue: This is not the way...
Fourth Statue: Take heed, and go no further...
Fifth Statue: Beware, beware...
Sixth Statue: Soon it will be too late...
Hoggle: Ah, don't pay any attention to them, they're just false alarms. You get a lot of them in the Labyrinth, especially when you're on the right track.
Seventh Statue: Oh, no you're not!
Hoggle: Oh, shut up.
Seventh Statue: I'm sorry, I'm just doing my job.
Hoggle: Well, you don't have to do it to us.
Eighth Statue: [deep, booming voice] Beware, for...
Hoggle: Just forget it.
Eighth Statue: [normal voice] Oh, please. I haven't said it in such a long time.
Hoggle: Oh, all right. But don't expect a big reaction.
Eighth Statue: No, no, no, of course not.
Eighth Statue: [clears throat, deep, booming voice] For the path you will take will lead you to certain destruction!
Eighth Statue: [normal voice] Thank you very much.

Notthecarwashagain · 13/09/2015 17:39

Thats from labyrinth isn't it?

rainpouringrainbows · 13/09/2015 17:40

OP, if this sign seriously made you turn around, you really shouldn't be cycling on your own.
