Overly threatening sign on public road

Was just out cycling and came across this. Seems quite threatening to me and as I was on my own I turned back even though I needed to go down it to complete the loop I'd planned.

Overly threatening sign on public road

I live in the country and frequently cycle around on lonely lanes and have done for two decades. I don't suffer from anxiety about signs like this.

I think you've been given a hard time, but would gently suggest that you may be feeling unduly anxious about something that is...nothing.

VerityWaves · 14/09/2015 09:41

What does it say I can't see

JanetBlyton · 14/09/2015 10:03

It says don't go on.
No one except someone with a mental disorder who needs therapy would be anything other than amused by a sign like that surely?

SoupDragon · 14/09/2015 10:26

If I had come on here after being attacked by dogs and said about the sign I'd probabaky get most people calling me stupid for ignoring the sign and going down a road I had a bad feeling about.

Not with that sign, which is obviously not serious.

SoupDragon · 14/09/2015 10:28

This is a classic "OP: AIBU? Posters: Yes. Op: No I'm not and you are all mean" thread.

AndDeepBreath · 14/09/2015 10:45

Bollocks. I used to live in the country and cycled down country lanes every day, evening, sometimes late night - and apart from thinking "that's littering", wouldn't have blinked twice at this. I am by no means a super confident person either.

No one's being mean or Ignorant-City-Folk here (charming) - it's just so CLEARLY a joke cheap signpost that you perhaps shouldn't be cycling out on your own so much. If it had been written in blood or something, or the road was known for brutal murders, then ... yes, turn around I guess, or call the police? in fact call them anyway they'd probably enjoy this one immensely

ScarletRuby · 14/09/2015 10:50

If you suffer anxiety at this level why are you out cycling alone? BTW I live in the country.

BowiesJumper · 14/09/2015 10:53

It's a direct quote and picture from Labyrinth as others have said (ie a children's film). LOVE it.

Oh my word, we have a new winner, craziest thread ever.

I'm off to make some blackboards saying "please come back here at midnight and leave all your money in a bucket by this sign" to see if I find a rufusgy in my area who follows every instruction they read

FyreFly · 14/09/2015 13:06

I'd probably have ignored it and gone looking for David Bowie and his tight leggings Grin

lushilaoshi · 14/09/2015 13:24

Well you're a lot more likely to get killed cycling alone in the city - so give us the 'you city folks don't understand' bollocks.

But I'm really not sure you're for real anyway.

Lweji · 14/09/2015 14:25

You should go on that road again. I bet you'd find other amusing signs as you went on.
Probably for a themed party or something.

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 14/09/2015 16:46

Oh I wonder if someone's having a labyrinth themed party - I'd love that!

Icouldbesogoodforyou · 14/09/2015 16:49

You didn't say you were worried about being attacked by dogs though.

You said you perceived it as an overtly threatening sign and you felt vulnerable as a woman where no-one would hear you.

The sign wasn't threatening and you were ridiculous. So don't try to gather more sympathy since.

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 14/09/2015 16:53

There is nothing wrong with the sign, I think. Most people would see it as jokey, even if they didn't recognise it as a quotation from a film.

However, I sympathise with you feeling anxious and vulnerable. When I lived alone I used to find that I slipped into feeling like that quite easily if something bothered me or I had an unpleasant interaction with someone. The same sort of stuff now would probably have no effect.
