Wearing white to a wedding.

Is it bad etiquette for a guest to wear white at a wedding?
Bride is wearing an ivory dress.
I have chosen a white skirt but not sure now... thoughts on this anyone?

A white dress is a definite no no, a white skirt maybe, depends on the length and the colours worn with it IMO

I just wouldn't. It's pretty much the only colour you need to avoid!

Well I wouldn't wear all white as I'm the sort who would spill something on my dress and look a right pillock.

As far as etiquette goes I think all white is frowned upon; as if one might be trying to upstage the Bride.

If I was the Bride I wouldn't give a hoot what you were wearing but that's me.

No no no. There are lots of colours you could wear so why choose the one that is traditionally for the bride? Yes I know shes wearing ivory but thats almost white!

If I go ahead with the white it will be with a coral jacket and cami and coral shoes and bag, I say coral but they're very light coral.
the short is just below the knee and not bride like Smile

If you were part of the bridal pary, a close relative, then no to wearing long lacey or beaded white or ivory dress that could be mistaken for a wedding dress.

If you are one of the grooms exes then NO NO NO!

No I think partial white is fine. I was recently a bridesmaid in a wedding where a guest turned up in an all white cocktail dress and white shoes along with her toddler child (this was a child-free wedding). The bride had never met this guest or her husband ever before, turns out the mil had invited them. The child proceeded to scream non-stop throughout the speeches (somewhat understandable...) and the parents did nothing whatsoever, this went on for 45 minutes. This wedding guest is pretty infamous amongst our friends now and has been the source of many jokes/fb jokes/instagram jokes ever since.

But don't worry, you sound fine. I just wanted to share my wedding story really ;)

If your buying it new, for the occasion, then you shouldn't really be choosing white.

There's been enough choice, in the sales, even if funds are tight.

Wear what you like OP! The bride shall be too busy having the best day of her life to notice what colour skirt you are wearing.

Fwiw my very traditional and Irish mother wore a white skirt to a wedding recently, so I guess times are definitely changing!

I personally don't see the issue but MN law dictates you will be hung, drawn and quartered at dawn for even considering such a concept - so... y'know... say your farewells now! Wink

The outfit you've described sounds fine. Because if that was a full dress with just a white part, it would be absolutely fine

White in general though = no

You don't want to be the person who everyone is gossiping about!
