The toiletries bag (light hearted)

A stand- off is happening in my house.

I was unpacking the shopping in the kitchen when we came home and all the bath/ shower things were in the one Morrisons bag. I asked him to 'take this bag of toiletries to the bathroom'. He did, when I went upstairs however I chuckled to myself to see that he had simply put the large bag down on the floor of the bathroom and not actually unpacked it (classic DH). I told him I thought it was funny and that he should have unpacked it. He replied with 'you never asked me to unpack it.

Over the following days the bag has remained on the floor, only DH has taken what he needs out of it as he needed it! So I started doing the same! Now only a few items remain in the carrier bag that has been on the floor for almost two weeks.

Dh won't move it because...he doesn't want to. and I won't because I unpacked all he other bits of shopping!

We are both well aware of the bag and tension around it is building, who will crack first? I know I didn't tell him to unpack it, but who leaves a shopping bag unpacked on the floor!

AIBU to ask for your similar stand- off stories?

It's going to have to stay there until everything is used. Make sure you don't take the last item and shove the bag in the bin OP, or you lose the game, I think.

I am no longer with a significant other, but I could bore you for hours with the stand offs I have with my 3 year old...

We had a cola bottle stand off in 1993. A cola bottle was on our bedroom carpet for weeks and neither of us was willing to throw it in the bin. It just stayed there gathering fuzz.

Put all of his stuff, shampoo, toothbrush etc in it then he will have to unpack it Grin

OP, I tried this with DP's dirty washing that he left on the floor. It stayed there for two months and I finally cracked and put it in the basket. I refuse to wash it for him too though!
I think his brain might work in a different way as mess really doesn't bother him

Well, it didn't happen to me, but...

When I had DD1, another new mum on the ward asked her DH to bring in her clean dressing gown which was in the washer. He brought it in for her the following day in a big carrier bag - dripping water all along the ward. She asked him why he hadn't put it in the tumble drier before he brought it and he replied 'you didn't ask me to, you just said to bring it in'.

We have a half-drunk glasses of water or squash stand-off in our house. All grouped attractively on his bedside table. Mould sometimes forms on top of the squash ones after 5 or 6 days. Envy

There is literally nothing but a pack of face wipes, a face wash gel and an extra shampoo in there, oh and one of DH's shaving foams!- I could use that in some way...

No one has mentioned the bag since the initial 'drop off'

Grin This reminds me of an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond when they had a stand off over a suitcase and he was refusing to give in and carry it up the stairs but there were clothes inside he needed - one day he appeared wearing crumpled suitcase clothes but had left the case on the stairs Grin

I leave things all the time to see how long it takes DH to move them.

Been waiting for a high chair to go in the loft for a little over month now and you practically have to step over it to get into the kitchen.

Oh fuck it, now I've made myself annoyed by it again now. I'm going to chuck it in the loft myself right now.

Oh I feel your pain OP.

Many years ago I moved in with an ex bf. We both had full time Monday-Friday jobs so the weekends were the only time to do stuff together. We both used to like going shopping on a Saturday afternoon so I thought it was reasonable that we tackled the cleaning on the Saturday morning. He was completely baffled by this - I'll never forget him looking round in bewilderment and saying 'What do you actually want me to do?'

We had a stand off over a pair of DP's pants on the bathroom floor. Annoyingly I lost and picked them up after two weeks because they were driving me insane.

OP I would keep adding random things to the bag, eg leave a baguette poking out the end or a feather duster. No way will he be able to ignore that and he'll be itching to find out why they're there.

I was thinking of putting something gross in the bag so when he reached for his shaving foam he would get a fun surprise.

But seriously where will this end? Will an empty morrisons bag be festering away on out bathroom floor forever! D:

I find doing my chores AND his to be a very powerful tool. I have an incredible 'martyr' face as well, and I talk about being the 'bigger' person.

You probably think you are having a battle of wills, but your DH doesn't even realise it's there.

I did the dirty washing stand off. If it aint in the basket, I aint washing it.
Him after about two weeks - I haven't got any pants!
Me - Well the washing basket is nearly empty so I've been keeping up with it.
Him - Oh.. well I've just been leaving them on the floor next to the basket.
Me - Then how am I supposed to know they're dirty? Grin Grin
That learned him. Mostly.
However when it comes to clutter he simply doesn't notice so I have to deploy the fourteen month old to do some tactical dribbling. The little one is also a star at pulling laces out of shoes so for the first time in ten years he's worked out what our shoe rack is for.

Remove the bag and it's contents, pack "your" items away. Pack his shaving foam away in the bin or other far away place

Oh my god!!!! My DP does this too!!!! He actually leaves it at the bottom of the stairs for me Hmm

Like he doesn't know where shampoo or toothpaste goes Grin
