AIBU to be embarrassed about our Eurovision song entry?

catchy it may be
but every year without fail, we, well we Fail.
I shant be able to watch when We come on

I'm a big eurovision fan but I couldn't get so worked up about it that I couldn't watch the UK entry.

It doesn't stand a chance but we've had far more embarrassing entries over the years.

There's no point in use spending money when we will never win.

I love Eurovision.It's just a big cheese fest.

All the songs are rubbish.

There's no reason why we couldn't perform more respectably if not win again if we invested the same energy as Sweden into choosing a representative.

I love Eurovision ... but the UK continues to embarrass itself year after year.

Euphoria by Loreen was genuinely a brilliant song, I still listen to it now! Is it really that hard for us to put together a stylish performance similar to the way Sweden etc does it?

I swear we're doing a 'Father Ted' - send the worst possible entry. No chance of winning = no expense of hosting it next year.

Meglet, I disagree. if 1D performed for UK we would definitely win.

It's embarrassing we take part in it. We should teach a dog to howl and put that in next years competition.

This idea that the UK can never win again is rubbish BTW. When we, or more to the point the BBC start making an effort again we will stand more of a chance.

I quite like our entry this year - must be getting old...still don't think it has much of a chance though.

Should also add that the Dutch song that came second last year was brilliant and would have walked it any other year, I still think it was robbed by the gimmicky Conchita. There have been some genuinely good winners over the past decade, Loreen being the best example. I also loved the Lordi winner from 2006.

It was interesting listening to Pete Waterman (no really ) on the radio t'uther day talking about how it really is. The year he entered with some youth singing his song I can't recall his name, the UK had spent a couple of grand on the song and all the promotion etc - the winning song had had millions and millions spent on it and was a huge hit already throughout Europe. That's what we need to do but nobody dares in case it doesn't work.

I do not usually watch Eurovision but have been to a few fun Eurovision parties thrown by my continental friends who take it a little too seriously

Electro swing is actually pretty popular on the continent and has been gaining a huge amount of momentum. It's not a great song, but they're actually trying to make something that will be liked. It's very Eurovision, me and dd like it!

Surely if you liked it, you liked it. It should make no difference that it is the Eurovision entry. I don't understand why you would go from liking a song to being embarrassed by it just because it's an entry into a competition.

It's Eurovision itself that's lost its way. This years song has grown on me, apparently it's gone down well in Europe, but it won't even break the top five most likely. As per usual either an eastern block country or one of Scandinavia will take it. As for Euphoria, yes it was a good song, but not at all in the spirit of the competition, is it any wonder the UK never seem to put out the 'right' song? We never know what the 'feel' is ever year, we go ballad, they go pop, we go disco, they go electro. Can't bloody win (in every sense!).

Despite that rant, I love Eurovision, although it will be interesting watching it sober this year .

And don't get me started that they've let the bloody Australians in . Unless they give us 12 points, in which case, hope they're in every year .

The Eastern bloc dont dominate the contest anymore. Four of the last five winners have been Western European. Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Austria. The Scandinavian countries do so well because that's where all of the worlds best contemporary songwriters are based, there's a good reason why the likes of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift etc record a large portion of their music in Sweden.

How does UK entry get chosen?

Well, they tried with Blue a few years ago and will still didn't win. Definitive test.

There is no big bad conspiracy against you guys, you just send.... Engelbert Humperdinck age 92, and then the year after Bonnie Tyler (age 70 or so?). Engelbert could still sing but the song was boring. Bonnie was an embarrassment (sorry but she was) and could not hold the tune. It was sad as I love her old songs.

The UK entry is now chosen in house by the BBC, we no longer get a say in the process. I belive we are the only country taking part where the viewing public doesn't get to choose the entry.

The BBC could make a huge thing of it if they wanted to, have a big X Factor style search for a new artist or have an established name and a talebt search for a songwriter but I just don't think they can be arsed.
