Hate the lyrics, all his reasons for loving her are to do with her looks.

MostGhostsAreMad · 23/05/2015 13:45

Jacana I bloody love it too. Glad I'm not alone Smile

DramaQueenofHighCs · 23/05/2015 13:45

Let's face it. Even if we had the best song in the entire universe ever we still wouldn't win as the voting is all political anyway! Last year's winner only won because of the person singing the song! The year we did win recently I think it was no coincidence that it was just when we had the pro EU labour government just in power. Don't be embarrassed by our entries - just enjoy the show for what it is, a politically voting fuelled cheese fest!

FlabulousChix · 23/05/2015 13:47

Our entries are always shit. Considering the talent on bgt and X factor I amazed we always have shit entries. It's like pick the worst and throw them in

We love Eurovision, I never like the UK entry but I have sufficient European blood that with squinting, I can inveigle myself into any country.

We need a Eurovision flag... we had one for the football, didn't we? Shock

We'll be watching tonight! Grin

Jacana · 23/05/2015 14:01

ghosts when the spirit ( or beer) moves, trust me, you are never aloneGrin

GatoradeMeBitch · 23/05/2015 14:07

To be fair to Eurovision voters, on the rare occasion we actually submit a decent song it does well. But for some reason we prefer to submit these novelty tracks instead, the kind of thing that wouldn't even make the charts usually.

My theory is that the UK Eurovision committee are told to do whatever they have to do so that we don't win and have to host the bloody thing...

GatoradeMeBitch · 23/05/2015 14:10

Yep, I just checked. The last really good song we had in Eurovision was from Katrina & The Waves in 97 and it won. Everything since has been crap, in fact I think voters were overly kind some years!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/05/2015 14:13

I'm sad about the Netherlands - they should have won last year, them didn't even get through the semi this year Sad

morethanpotatoprints · 23/05/2015 14:16

Just seen it on youtube. would be good if when the band are playing the instruments were actually in their mouths.
I wonder what the models will do on the night.
Maybe they'll be a band playing for them to mime to.
What utter shite. Grin

PuppyMonkey · 23/05/2015 14:17

Will say it again, if 1D represented the UK, they WOULD win. 1D are massive all over the world, inc Russia etc. Their fans would vote for then. They would win by a mile. Politics wouldn't enter into it.

I think it's the best entry we've had for a while, although admittedly that's not saying much!

LoisandFreddie1 · 23/05/2015 16:23

Ooooh I do love Eurovision though! Cringey as it may be it is always a good laugh Smile xxxxx

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 23/05/2015 16:41

I wish the UK would take it seriously. We piss people off with our 'nobody votes for us because we're the UK' attitude and then put in either unknown acts with songs written by people who haven't had a hit since the 80's (Pete Waterman, I'm talking about you) or over the hill acts who look like they've been defrosted from some cryo unit somewhere (Englebert).

If we actually put in a song that related somehow to our current music industry, we would do better.

We need to stop entering songs that we think will do well in Eurovision, we need to enter songs that we think are actually good.

You can actually enter a song that has been released in the charts up to 6 months before hand, If you consider Loreen, Euphoria was a massive Europe wide hit before they even got to the contest.

I wish the people involved would put it back up to a public vote again (that way, at least WE could take the blame for the choice instead of some faceless panel). And none of that crap where we just pick the singer and the song is released later, we need to vote for the actual song (again, Pete bloody Waterman, Andrew Lloyd Webber)

I wish we didn't get advanced straight to the final, I don't think it's fair (money aside) and I don't think it's an advantage as all the other acts are heard in the semis. Maybe a few years of not being in the final will sharpen our minds a little.

We need to stop fixating on the fact that we can must have 6 singers on stage. It looked ridiculous when Blue (and I really liked Blue) performed with 2 shadowy figures next to them.

We need to actually use the stage and the great lighting effects. (Case in point - this years entry from Sweden) So often we stand on stage and don't really use the technology available, we don't put on a show.

All that said, I am a massive Eurovision fan (you can probably tell that).

We won't win, anything in the top 20 would be good, top fifteen would be amazing, bottom 5 is more realistic.

Off to chill my Bucks Fizz and print off my scorecards Grin

BettyCatKitten · 23/05/2015 16:42

I haven't heard the whole song, but I saw a bit of the rehearsal on the news and it sounded awful. Nil points again Wine.
I'm backing the swede's as I used to live there and apparently their entry is good Smile

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 23/05/2015 16:46

I'm also a little peeved that if Australia wins, we don't get to ship everyone off to the other side of the world for next year, they'll just co-host it somewhere in Europe (no doubt the bbc will beg offer to do it in the UK)

BlueThursday · 23/05/2015 16:50

I watched it sober last year as I was pregnant so looking forward to getting back to tradition tonight Wine

MostGhostsAreMad · 23/05/2015 17:35

Jacana Grin Wine

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 23/05/2015 17:45

As someone who has absolutely no interest in pop music and doesn't own a tv, I can't say it bothers me. I didn't even know it was on this evening until Radio 4 mentioned it on the Today programme this morning.

No idea what the song is like, but I thought that the whole point of Eurovision was that they were all rubbish songs and bad singers. A bit confused about Australia, though. Since when has that been in Europe???

BlueThursday · 23/05/2015 18:10

I think it's where European broadcasting can reach so back in the day it stretched to Isreal and places like that and nowadays it can be anywhere really

AliceLidl · 23/05/2015 18:18

This years song is a good one for us.

I actually like it. We hit our lowest point with that Daz Samson song Teenage Life, which came with a side order of barrel scrapings, and we're slowly improving now. Although the Andrew Lloyd Webber one was a bit of a dip back down as well.

Electro Velvet are actually quite in keeping with what I want out of a Eurovision entry.

Australia have been allowed to take part as a one-off because they have such a big Eurovision fan base out there.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 23/05/2015 18:27

I couldn't have put it better, Raptor!
All this "everybody hates the UK" is complete bollocks. Europeans still see the UK as one of the leading nations music wise. If the BBC put any effort at all into it, we could smash it. Instead, they come up with these half arsed, lukewarm non-starters every year... I don't see the UK anywhere near the top 10. Sad

Fatmomma99 · 23/05/2015 20:43

not read thread, but just stopped watching cos saw this thread earlier, but didn't know the UK song. I think it was BRILLIANT.

Best one for years.

Gotta go and disparage Armenia now...
