Well, I liked the UK entry. In fact, I liked everything about it.

I am however delighted that Sweden won (again).
The ESC is a bit of fun, and there's not enough of that about.
Roll on ESC 2016!

crustsaway · 24/05/2015 22:58

Its not a "song" contest at all is it, its turned into a blatant country against country thing. I find it embarrassing that its still going on.

MrsSheRa · 24/05/2015 23:00

YANBU. It was shit.

Bringitbacknow · 24/05/2015 23:06

We could have the most amazing song in the world and we still wouldn't win.
Why? Because the rest of Europe dislike us. You can almost sense the disdain.

I'm pleased we never win. If winning means having to produce diabolical, corny, cheesy, comical crap, that some of the other countries churn out, then I'm proud we don't win.
The day we win is the day we will really have to worry whether our singing talents have gone down the pan.

Bringitbacknow · 24/05/2015 23:08

My favourite thing about Eurovision is that there are a lot of countries who enter that take it hugely seriously and make a massive effort, whereas for the UK it's a bit of a laugh and a source of fun rather than a serious musical competition.

I think they know we take the piss out of it. That's why we get so many nul point!

Bringitbacknow · 24/05/2015 23:12

It's a tacky cheesefest, we don't actually want to win, and it would be slightly embarrassing if we did.....no?

Yep

crustsaway · 24/05/2015 23:14

Exactly Bring it back, of course it blatantly shows other countries disdain. We could put our top artist in there and we would be "nil" or they may give us 1 knowing this Grin

What a load of crap this programme is.

MayPolist · 24/05/2015 23:41

I loved this years entry .Total rip off of that 'Take Good care of yourself, You belong to me' song.Love that 20s music though!
It is all political though.
I like Graham Norton's commentary though- he is like Terry Wogan was, gently ripping the piss but without being nasty.Great platform for his wit
I wonder if the other countries treat it as the same cheese and cringe fest we do?

honeyrider · 25/05/2015 00:14

I liked the UK song and voted for it a few times. I do think there's a lot of political voting, maybe not quite as much as there was a while back but it's definitely there. Ireland cannot even get out of the semi-finals and when we have we came last or second last apart from the year Jedward came 6th.

ilovesooty · 25/05/2015 00:22

Sweden are consistently successful because they have a seriously focused attitude to the selection of their entry. Unless we start doing the same we'll continue to do poorly.
Also I think it's not insignificant that the decline in our performance coincides with the introduction of the semi finals. Big 5 countries who are exempt with exception of the year Lena won for Germany and of Italy this year have performed porky in the voting since.
We put no effort into the selection, we have a massive sense of entitlement and grievance and it's hardly surprising we get few votes.

BettyCatKitten · 25/05/2015 00:25

I lived in Sweden for a few years when younger and have Swedish relatives and can vouch that they take Eutovision very seriously. There outlook is the polar opposite to ours.

BettyCatKitten · 25/05/2015 00:25

Eurovision evenBlush

chocolatelife · 25/05/2015 10:06

I have German relatives and when I told them Germany had null points they wanted to know who the singer was?
Whereas in this country we tend not to know our singers in the first place.

I don't know why we have such angst about the ESC. We should be massively proud of our creative industries. It's out 4th largest contributor to the economy. Our musicians and songwriters are world renowned. It would be a career backwards step for our top artists to do Eurovision. It's the way it is. Any European country would love our music and film industry and would give up a million Eurovision wins to have it.
