Sounds like a song from princess and the frog to me - I quite like it.

BabyGanoush · 23/05/2015 12:11

Swedish, is Blue on your playlist?

UK always send a song they bever even play kn the radio themselves, though radio 2 might be forced to play it twice.

You always think:"this is good enough for Eurovision" even though you don't want to listen to it yourself Grin

TheVeryHungryPreggo · 23/05/2015 12:14

It's true, Blue were over long before Eurovision. Washed up acts are not a vote winner.

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2015 12:15

Er, no. I was being slightly tongue-in-cheek about Blue. But, they did come 5th and they still got sneered at. 5th is pretty good going, I think.

Eurovision has an image problem in the UK so it only attracts has-beens and wannabes. So, you'll never get 1D or Olly Murs - they don't feel they need it for their careers.

ilovesooty · 23/05/2015 12:15

Blue performed really poorly at the jury voting and had already lost before the actual contest.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 23/05/2015 12:16

Only just had a listen. Not very good and a bit niche. Can anyone remember the Hot Shoe Show age age age? It would have been fine for that, or an end-of-pier thing, if they still exist, but we're obviously not going to be troubling the winner's board.

My Swedish neighbours are fairly confident of a win.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 23/05/2015 12:19

I don't just mean winners of the last few years- the top five is usually dominated by eastern countries and north of Europe. Azerbaijan is one country that seemed to spend a few years at the top, despite boring songs that I doubt anyone could name now without Google. I'm more peed off that its never been win closer to home (Ireland a few years back, Jedward were robbed!), so I could actually see it live. Knowing my luck, UK will win just because I probably won't be able to go next year!

hedgehogsdontbite · 23/05/2015 12:21

The big difference I've noticed since moving to Sweden is that Eurovision is on a par with the olympics. Successful, top of their game performers compete to be chosen. It's a badge of honour, not the dying breath of musical has beens.

KurriKurri · 23/05/2015 12:23

I'm hoping Australia will give us a big wad of votes I think the song is okayish (by our usual standards) but I've never heard of the singers and they seem to struggle to sing well even on a recording so how they are going to fare in front of a huge live and Tv audience when they seem inexperienced I don't know.

Anyway I don;t care - I'm still getting in my Eurovision snacks and wine so DD and I can curl up on the sofa for a cheesefest.

ForalltheSaints · 23/05/2015 12:25

It might be OK for a second rate musical.

Anyway, the BBC should stop showing it- if a commercial channel wants to host it, fine by me, but please not spend part of our licence fee on it.

specialsubject · 23/05/2015 12:28

not a bad little ditty - and there's a live (as in 'really singing now') performance on youtube, they can actually sing. Unheard of!

we won't win, Eurovision is political and no-one likes the UK, but it makes a change from the ghastly power ballads.

EmeraldThief · 23/05/2015 12:36

Do you read the Daily Mail by any chance ForalltheSaints because that is a very DM opinion if you don't mind me saying.

Eurovision doesn't actually cost that much, and it rates better than anything else shown in its time slot. I can garuntee nothing else the Beeb would show would pull in as many viewers.

fruitpastille · 23/05/2015 12:37

We won't win, it's about politics/popularity as much as the song. Looking forward to it though!

OttiliaVonBCup · 23/05/2015 12:41

Of course we fail.
It's tradition.

Great fun.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2015 12:44

I don't know who choose it, but it isn't anything like the songs currently in the charts or the top 100 for that matter! we haven't won since 97 so I doubt we will with this, they seem a nice duo but the uk just don't get the points any more, its too political. Even if Ollie Murs and Robbie were on there they still wouldn't vote for us. I don't know why the UK carry on funding most of it these days either. Not heard any of the other entries so no idea who will win it.

The80sweregreat · 23/05/2015 12:51

First, yes, I do remember the hot shoe show - and Summertime special that made my mum and dad groan it was so cheesy, but I was just a kid and thought the dancers were great... Just Butlins all round.
Blue did do well as the songs for the UK before that bombed - who remembers the blond duo with 'bye bye baby' ? they got nil points I think, we usually get a few more than that, mostly from Ireland bless em. its good fun though - in Europe they play their songs constantly so people know them already I think. that was the case with Germany a few years back, they were singing along in the hall. I hope theres some mad ones this year -

PuppyMonkey · 23/05/2015 13:04

Graham Norton just played the Swedish entry - really good. Bet it wins.

SwedishEdith · 23/05/2015 13:05

Ha, was just listening to that and thinking it was still shit Grin

DinosaursRoar · 23/05/2015 13:11

It's not just about people voting for their neighbours, in many cases, they are voting for the song that's been on their radio for weeks, often performed by singers/groups that are currently famous and currently successful careers, we tend to pick acts who are just starting out or already past their best.

We dont tend to do big pushes in other countries with our song in advance (there's no need for it to be a hit in the UK, we don't get to vote for it!), but apparently this year they have been on a charm offensive across Europe with it.

It's a very popular programme on the BBC, never winning doesn't change the viewing figures, so it doesn't really matter if we can't get a 'big' name to take part. The Daily Mail might hate it, but as programming goes, it's very successful, success being measured in high viewing figures and people enjoying it, not if we win or not.

DinosaursRoar · 23/05/2015 13:14

oh and the Germans cheat too - one of Dh's friends lives in Luxembourg just by the German boarder, on Eurovision night there's a queue to cross the bridge from Germany into Luxemboug, then a queue at the phone box in the village for Germans to vote for their act!

I actually really like our Eurovision entry this year! Not sure what that says about my taste in music! It's all in the performance though - a weak or mediocre performance of any song won't get votes. It's the 'show' that matters with Eurovision.

The show & the voting that is. Australia are taking part fully - so they will be voting at home too. The only thing they won't be doing is hosting in 2016, should they win.

I agree that we won't win. We could have 1D, Take That, Adele, Elton John & Olly Murs all together and still not win.

Jacana · 23/05/2015 13:26

I bloody love it! Star

Bring on the beer, bring on the wine boxes, bring on the cheesy wotsits, the crisps, the salami snax, the fags smoked out of open windows for those who do. Bring on the annual argument of who opens the door to the Pizza delivery bloke...

Bring on the jeers at the nil points and the ensuing political debatesGrin

Bloody love it all. Star

Doesn't matter who wins, the taking part and audience partication is king tonight!

Only regret, tho, is that there's no terry wogan to mc. His increasingly more drunken comments were fab and the stuff of legends, so another Star for him

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/05/2015 13:31

Maybe is why they don't let the public choose the UK entry any more? Blush

FenellaFellorick · 23/05/2015 13:36

I thought the whole point of it was crap songs and a total cringe fest. Thats the fun of it.
