To think there's someone living in my loft?

On Monday morning when I returned from the school run the back door was wide open, I was a bit un-nerved, shouted hello and checked around, nothing seemed untoward or out of place so I presumed I'd left it open before I went. Fine.
Tuesday we didn't go to school, nothing to report.
Wednesday I closed and locked the back door and looked back at it as I was closing the front door, it was 100% shut and locked with the key in. Get back from the school run and it is wide open again. Now I'm freaked out.
We leave the key in the back door all the time to avoid puppy accidents while we're finding the key, so today just as an experiment I locked the back door and took the key to school with me. It was still shut and locked when I got in.
Now I've just been in the utility room, which is just off the kitchen (where the back door is) and it is part of a single storey extension so has a loft hatch, we've never ever been up there (I always kind of presumed it wasn't a proper loft) and as soon as I walked in I noticed the hatch had moved quite considerably, it was literally the first thing I saw as there is quite a gap around it so it has only happened since around 4pm; the last time I was in there.
The door to the utility room is always shut because the kids aren't allowed in there and I'm the only person in the house

AIBU to think the only logical explanation is that someone has recently moved into my utility room loft?

Hussarsataparty · 21/05/2015 22:22

I thought the bloke in the photo above was Francis Rossi from Status Quo. Now why is Francis Rossi living in your loft, OP? I'm worried that his royalties have all dried up!

TenerifeSea · 21/05/2015 22:22

If you feel at all threatened, please call the police. I'm sure they'd rather check everything was ok than you be shit scared while you wait for your DP to get home.

Someone asked about where would the potential loft dweller be going to the loo. A MNetter a few weeks ago posted saying she had gone in a Bag For Life out of necessity. Have any gone missing OP?

PuntasticUsername · 21/05/2015 22:24

When they knocked the old cinema down in Cheltenham, they found a Polish man living behind the main screen. He'd been there months. It was quite a happy ending, a Polish-speaking family voluntarily took him in and helped him get back on his feet.

Ok, is OP's DP back yet, cos I'm all out of stories of when this sort of thing turns out well...

flanjabelle · 21/05/2015 22:24

Idris Elba stars in Night of the Ninja Squirrels, an edgy thriller written by overnight sensation Blue Bananas and some homeless geezer. Music specially composed by The Vipers. [Sold out.]

Gilrack · 21/05/2015 22:26

Aw, Puntastic, what a great story!

BlueBananas · 21/05/2015 22:26

...I kind of want to go and see if the hatch is shut properly now or still in the same position
I won't, but if the DC weren't here I probably would have and been killed
