DM had my DD today - 4yrs. She let her go upstairs to the toilet on her own while there was a decorator in the room next to the toilet. Obviously she cannot lock the door so potentially the door could have been open the whole time with a half naked child on the toilet. DD told us when we get in from work that she'd had a chat with the decorator on the landing.

No bad came of it, granted. But when I've mentioned to my Mum that I'd rather she went to the toilet with DD if there was a stranger in the house, her reaction is to say that its fine because the guy has his own kids, she was downstairs the whole time and then put my brother on to tell me that I'm being silly about all. We don't really know this man, and even if we did, I'd rather my toddler wasn't put in a vulnerable position.

Am I being silly?

Yes, you're being silly.

MistletoeBUTNOwine · 20/05/2015 20:14

I wouldn't have a problem with it

VacantExpression · 20/05/2015 20:15

Yes you are. A bit. I think the relevant phrase is pfb. Have a Brew and a deep breath.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 20/05/2015 20:15

Yes. You are.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 20/05/2015 20:15

It wouldn't bother me. But perhaps I'm too trusting.

Stubbed · 20/05/2015 20:15

Wouldn't bother me. I don't think every man is a paedophile

Gubbins · 20/05/2015 20:15

Agreed. You're being silly.

Mrsstarlord · 20/05/2015 20:15

Yes, yes - you are being silly

Feminine · 20/05/2015 20:16

Yes, you are being a bit silly. :)
I imagine if you'd been there, you would have felt fine too.

Smoorikins · 20/05/2015 20:17

It wouldn't even occur to me to think it might be a problem.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/05/2015 20:17

A 4yo isnt a Toddler.

"We dont really know this man" - do you know him at all? You either know someone or you dont.

Not every man is a danger to kids.

whatwhatinthewhatnow · 20/05/2015 20:17

I don't think someone being downstairs in the same house would discourage an abuser given such an ample opportunity. YANBU.

Aermingers · 20/05/2015 20:17

YABU. It's extremely unlikely anything would happen with your mother within shouting distance only expecting her to be gone a few minutes.

SewingAndCakes · 20/05/2015 20:18

I would have been fine with it.

Most children are at school by the age of 4...
I might have read your post wrong, but do you refere to her as a toddler?

CrapBag · 20/05/2015 20:18

I take my 4 year old to the toilet when we have workmen in, and I tell her not to wander out with her pants down as she sometimes does so a YANBU from me.

kinkyfuckery · 20/05/2015 20:18

A bit silly, yes, but trusting you didn't get mad at your MIL, that's okay. Not every stranger is a paedophile, most abuse is carried out by someone known to the victim.

Izzy24 · 20/05/2015 20:19

No, I don't think you are being silly.

In any case - your daughter, so your feelings/decisions are paramount.

FWIW, I would feel the same as you if I had a 4 yr old.

Norfolknway · 20/05/2015 20:19

Sorry, but YABU and I wouldn't say 4 year olds were toddlers.

mickeyfartpants · 20/05/2015 20:20

She was just 4 last week so not at school.

Feminine · 20/05/2015 20:20

You have to be rational.
What is the likelihood of a pervert mascarading as a decorator, just hoping for little child to come by?
The odds must be very, very small.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/05/2015 20:21

I think YABU. I'd have been fine with it.

chickenfuckingpox · 20/05/2015 20:21

no one is saying pedophile but what if he was embarrassed by it himself? not everyone is ok with children toileting with the door open

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 20/05/2015 20:21

She is most certainly not a toddler. I agree. Smile
