I've had 5 bad ones and one good one. Never an actual mil- just long term relationships with their sons

Mine MIL is great. She welcomed me into the family and has always made it clear that she loves, respects and supports me but is here to help. She lives 2 hours away but helps with childcare every few months by coming to stay. She does not tread on my toes in the house but checks with me what would be welcome and most helpful. She has said that there are to be no expectations and rotas for Christmas.
She loves DH and DS and loves crime novels / dramas as well as a large glass of wine so we enjoy each others company. She is not quite so keen on cosying up with cake and a movie as my Mum and I are (more daily exercise and a very healthy diet) but I do love her.

Love love LOVE my MIL. I cannot say enough good things about her, she is brilliant. In fact, with one exception, all of DH's family are fecking marvellous. I am completely accepted as part of the family and have been since I first met them nearly 2 decades ago now.

LaLyra - what a lovely lady, feeling a bit emotional now!

My in laws are amazing. They helped make my wedding fantastic, bought me a £15k diamond necklace as a wedding gift, they raised my wonderful husband and his lovely siblings, they are kind and gentle people, they hug me every time I see them and I hope they live forever. I call them mum and dad, I got very very lucky and I get a bit teary eyed thinking about them you can all stop gagging now

Both my PIL are amazing, I'm really lucky. Mn has made me realise just how lucky! Not that we haven't had our differences, but with love, effort and understanding on both sides, these have all been worked out. It does help a lot that DH sees it as his job rather than mine to address any issues with them - he will never shy away from that and put the rest of us in a difficult position that way.

My mil is like a second mother to me. I'm so lucky to have her.
