This isn't sexist at all.

In my DH works on night shifts each of the wives/partners cook for all the men on shift.

I'm happy with it and so are all the other women, we have been doing this for years. It means they all get a hot home made meal.

The 1 partner of a new man who has started has pulled a strop and said it sexiest and very 1950.

The reason we all enjoy cooking them as we can step away from cooking 'kids' meals and kick up the heat on curries and jerk chicken ect.
While I accept that children do eat these kind of meals within our friendship group all these are always done mild.

IABU to think it is not sexiest.

In able to do this many years ago with the Christmas bonus they brought a George foreman, slow cooker, pressure cooker and a rice cooker. Due to H&S the only thing they haven't got is a deep fat fryer. But all the others have been PACT tested.

I think you kinda deserved that reply really. I'd just leave it now or apologise for forgetting she is a person in here own right with no obligation to look after the menfolk.

alicemalice · 20/03/2015 19:05

Yes, it's the implication that because a) she's his wife and b) is female that she might like to join that's really sexist.

I'd be pretty fucked off at getting a message like that.

My ex-h was a much better cook than me... why would I run around cooking for him?

MorrisZapp · 20/03/2015 19:05

Blimey this thread is so believable, and not in any way made up.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 20/03/2015 19:06

Like Hell the cleaning up is done by any of us, that's their job.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/03/2015 19:06

That reply is uncalled for.

silveroldie2 · 20/03/2015 19:06

I don't think her reply was unreasonable in the circumstances.

FlaviaAlbia · 20/03/2015 19:06

Sorry OP, I can't decide if I'd be incredulous or raging if one of DH's co workers partners texted me like that. I'd be wondering what on earth it had to do with me.

I'm glad you've decided to apologise and fair play for talking the replies so well..

CaptainHolt · 20/03/2015 19:07

We have a fuddle occasionally at work, probably about 2-3 times a year. What happens is someone will go around with a list and badger people to bring stuff in. What doesn't happen is an electronic pow wow between the spouses of the people who work in my department on my colleagues mobile phones, because that would be rude and presumptuous, as well as weird.

RandomFriend · 20/03/2015 19:07

Cross-post with the last several posts. OP, your message was fine and her reply was completely unreasonable.

CaptainHolt said it much more concisely than I did.

ImperialBlether · 20/03/2015 19:07

Do we know yet what the job is?

I give her 100% for her reply, btw.

Hullygully · 20/03/2015 19:07

At least she called you "sexiest"

you should have been flattered

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 20/03/2015 19:07

Why not.

I am not lying about any of the thread, hate reverse threads and people who don't tell the truth on threads ( or the basis of the truth to protect identity)

AlternativeTentacles · 20/03/2015 19:08

LTB

Leave the baking.

OP - you crack me up. 'Slot her in' indeed. No wonder you got a right royal 'Fuck you' back.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 20/03/2015 19:08

Factory work loading lorries.

OP posts:
FlaviaAlbia · 20/03/2015 19:08

Oh, many cross posts. I don't agree with the language used and the rudeness but I agree with the sentiments.

Rednotpinkorgreen · 20/03/2015 19:09

Surely this is a reverse?

Mind you years ago I had a similar situation regarding cricket teas and my then BF getting into the first team. I was expected to spend Saturdays standing adoring on the boundary and then help run up butties for two teams and officials.

Reader, I didn't marry him.

SpearmintLino · 20/03/2015 19:10

Soooooooo sexist. And "homemade poppodums"? These menfolk are having a 1950s style laugh ????????

iklboo · 20/03/2015 19:10

The cleaning up is your job as well???

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 20/03/2015 19:10

OP I don't understand the relevance of the menz pitching in and buying a George Foreman grill / slow cooker etc if you cook the food and then send it in? Or do they use it to heat the pre-cooked food? Or did they buy all the little wifeys one each?

Yeah, I'm wondering that!

She shouldn't have sworn at you OP if she really did at all but, tbh, your arrangement does sound ridiculous.

KittensOnAPlane · 20/03/2015 19:10

Is this for real? (Is it against rules to question if thread is serious or not?)

Even if you got a stepford like text, would you really reply with " Like fuck am I doing that, what a bunch of sexiest 1950 twats you all sound."

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 20/03/2015 19:10

I know I have done an epic fuck up.

OP posts:
MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 20/03/2015 19:10

Did she really say "like fuck am I doing that"? I had assumed you were paraphrasing op.

DelightfulFunky · 20/03/2015 19:11

I must be weird as don't see anything wrong with Piper's text and the reply she received is shocking. Why would you reply so rudely to a colleague's partner? Surely a thanks but no thanks would have been better?

Mumto3dc · 20/03/2015 19:11

Yes YABU, seems extremely sexist to me.
I don't get why the employees wouldn't be cooking their own meal to take in, the fact their female partner is expected to do it seems sexist.

I hate cooking, no way would I do this, I do the least I can get away with to nourish my dc and me/dh (I do it because dh works long hours and is happy to just eat what I produce or make his own if I produce nothing!).

no way would I cook up a storm for loads of others every week!

messyisthenewtidy · 20/03/2015 19:12

"Like fuck am I doing that, what a bunch of sexiest 1950 twats you all sound."

Are you serious?! She said that?! I mean I'm sorry Piper because your heart is in the right place, but that's awesome!

I worship at that woman's feet! I need to channel some of her frankness.
