False eyelashes during the day - is this a 'thing' now

For the second weekend in a row I've been to what I've thought were casual family catch ups at home during the day and the women my age were wearing false eyelashes (early 30s), AIBU to think this is bizarre? And can someone please tell me what is the point anyway, I have to say they were caked in mascara and looked like they were putting a lot of strain on the eyelids! It makes me ranty as the mother of dds that they are constantly exposed to women who feel the need to 'enhance' their face.

I guess the point is that they want to wear them and they can.

Maybe they don't judge others on their appearance.

All women should just use soap and water and nothing else.

It's always been "a thing" for women who like to wear false lashes.

I used to do mine and rather than have the bother of taking them off, during the day, to suit other people, I wore them constantly.

Your DDs are going to be just fine, if you teach them to be open minded, think for themselves and not make assumptions based on what they see (I've said this on another thread this morning).

Guess what? My DDs wear false lashes occasionally and they follow Feminist principles, you can do both.

Disclaimer, we're from Native American background, the Men used to (and at times still do) paint themselves, as well as the Women.

Well most people including men enhance themselves In some way or we would all be walking around in a fairly dishevelled state.

If you had sons would it annoy you if you had male relatives who used hair gel or groomed their facial hair?

They are probably the semi-perm ones.

I have them. They last about 4 weeks, then you get them re-done

That's interesting birdsgottafly about keeping them on constantly, because that's what I don't get - why do they have them on at 10am in the morning?! I think they look great on a night out but these ones looked so obviously fake and not in a good way. Prefer the dds to use soapless cleanser actually mighty!

I don't see anything wrong with wearing them during the day as long as they are not too long and heavy.

If they look like sticky spiders, that's not good at any time of day. But I have worn false eyelashes during the day.

I think you're right still staying I do sound like I'm overreacting, it's just I think there are also other ways the dds are hearing the message - 'you need to be pretty' from family and this is just a reminder for me. They're definitely glue ons catgirl - I'm sure the semi-permanent ones would not be as noticeable.

You think your daughters will see women wearing fake eyelashes at 10am and then want to enhance their face?

I am a recent convert to fake eyelashes and although I wouldn't wear them every day, if I could afford permanent ones I would! If you have never tried them you really should you actually wear less make up when you wear them and they make you look amazing

The flipside is I don't want my dd to live in a world where clothing/cosmetic choices lead to "slit shaming" or assumptions about intelligence.

If I could master them I'd wear them everyday!

Hate the semi permanent ones though, I feel like I can never clean properly around my eyes then I look bald when they come off.

Nothing wrong with trying to enhance your looks on a daily basis if it makes you feel better, more confident etc. I fake tan every week & it's great, my skin looks better so I can wear less foundation.

Maybe it's because they look like sticky spiders fabulassie, posters who wear semi-permanent lashes, are they meant to look like you just have fabulous natural long lashes or they are blatantly fake? I think what niggles is they currently fall into the same category as really orange fake tan, hair extensions where you can see the join etc. Prepared for you all to tell me IAB even more U now!

You must have very little faith in your own parenting if you think a couple of relatives wearing fake eyelashes is going to have a detrimental effect on your daughters way of thinking!

Heaven forbid women might like to look 'glam' all the time! Your attempt at feminism is muddled- when would you see a man complaining about the equivalent? Never!

There is nothing wrong with anyone wearing a full face of slap whenever they like, there is however everything wrong with them being judged for it.

You can be intelligent and care about your appearance OP. The two are not mutually exclusive

Are false eyelashes not just "fashionable" now, the way things like perms, skinny jeans, jelly shoes, blue mascara have been fashionable? These women are just buying and wearing the latest fashion surely?

I have noticed a lot of under 25s wearing false eyelashes during the day, usually teamed with lots of make-up generally. All that goes through my mind is "do they have to get up extra early to allow time to apply it all?" but that's their choice. Personally I'd prefer an extra half hour in bed, but that's my choice Smile

OP I suspect you wanted lots of people coming onto this thread to shame these women.

I'm glad that hasn't happened.

Women should be able to chose to wear or not wear whatever cosmetic enhancement they like without being judged and having to act like a "role model" to younger generations.

The bald look when the permanent ones do come off is a problem.

I can't afford to have them re-done all the time, so I either look fabulous dahling or like Penfold Blush

I wear them everyday. I'm so used to putting them on that it takes a few seconds to do both eyes - far less time than mascara and a much better result.

The ones I wear in the day are not very thick and are relatively natural looking. If I'm on a night out i will wear thicker ones.

I don't like the semi perm ones as they take my own lashes out with them when they come off.

I don't see false lashes as any different to any other make up I wear.
