They should all be shot.

See also: chewmeric, cardamon, and cummin.

Yes I know this is unreasonable. Especially for cummin.

How do you pronounce it then? I have no idea about these things.....

simbacatlivesagain · 06/01/2015 21:46

Is this a new kardashian baby? I struggle to keep up with them.

LongDistanceLove · 06/01/2015 21:48

I pronounce it Kay-en is that right? Confused

GrandTheftQuarto · 06/01/2015 21:49

I think it's pronounced pretty much how it's spelt, isn't it? Kay-enn?

I think people are saying kye-ann by analogy to Cheyenne, the Native American people, which is shy-ann.

SquinkiesRule · 06/01/2015 21:49

I say Kay-ann as in Cayenne pepper.
Whats Chumeric?

GrandTheftQuarto · 06/01/2015 21:51

It's kind of weird - all my life I've heard people call it cayenne, and suddenly the TV is heaving in people using this weird pronunciation Grin

Kew-Mon?
Tu-ma-Rick.
And cardamom, cardamom.

OhShittingHenry · 06/01/2015 21:51

How can it be 'ann' when it clearly ends in 'enne'? It's Kay-enn.

Turmeric is sometimes mispronounced as Chumeric. I don't know why.

GrandTheftQuarto · 06/01/2015 21:52

Chewmeric is how people say turmeric when they want it to sound like they're putting tumours in their food

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/01/2015 22:03

I thought it was pronounced Shy-an. Thats how Cheyenne, wyoming is pronounced.

KatoPotato · 06/01/2015 22:04

MacaRONS. Gahhh

msgrinch · 06/01/2015 22:05

chorizo is always a good one too. picks the snobs from the norm. added points for a false accent and hand movement.

VirginiaTonic · 06/01/2015 22:06

Well how are people supposed to know how these things SHOULD be pronounced? If everyone says kye-ann then others just copy- never heard it pronounced any other way to honest!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 06/01/2015 22:06

According to my friend who lives in Cheyenne, its pronounced Shy-ann.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 06/01/2015 22:08

Grandtheft don't! My friends very cockney dad pronounced it just like that I was horrified.

msgrinch Grin sooo true about chorizo!

WowserBowser · 06/01/2015 22:08

Macarons is correct though? As in, there are macarons and macaroons.

VirginiaTonic · 06/01/2015 22:09

And it's always been chewmeric until now, what's changed?

NorksAreMessy · 06/01/2015 22:10

But macarons and macaroons are different things (despite what my spellcheck might think)

I HATE the added 'sh' in the middle of words. There was a new CONSUMER ombudsman interviewed on the radio this morning and he kept saying 'conSHumers'. Somebody is going to need to tell him
