Cheyenne is shy-ann. Cayenne is a completely unrelated word

I think the reason I find kye-ann really only very mildly annoying is what a PP mentioned about snobs and chorizo, thinking they're being clever by using a more "correct" pronunciation that's actually wrong. And then the rest of us get confused and the rot spreads, like Virginia says

I think the turmeric mispronunciation comes from seeing it misspelled as tumeric. I know I've seen it like that somewhere (possibly a recipe book, although clearly not a very good one!) and pronounced it wrong .
