To have quite liked Katie Hopkins

So I've obviously NC here as I don't want this to be held against me for the rest of my MN life and I'm a coward Grin

I watched her fat tv show expecting to be disgusted and hate her but... Essentially she was right. Eat less, move more! I also think she came across as someone who was beginning to have a bit more empathy for overweight people, a bit more understanding of the issues surrounding weight gain and I thought she was funny!

When she comes out with things like calling overweight people fat bastards I can see that it's clearly to get that Shock reaction. KH enjoys the reactions she gets and to be honest I can see why it amuses her. It is amusing to see people getting all wound up and angry (like the woman who went off to call the police in the show...that was some funny shit!) when they could also choose to be like KH and let it go over their heads.
KH has people being pretty vile to her on a daily basis (not denying that most of it is self inflicted) but I don't see her sobbing and running off to the police blithering on about 'hate crimes' and 'prejudice'.
It's not just her views that are attacked it's everything, her nose, her kids, her wrinkly face ect. So how are the so called victims or their defenders of KH being any different?

It seems to have become socially unacceptable to claim to like KH. The mob mentality is so violent that to voice a differnt opinion to everyone else would be to commit social suicide and open yourself up to the kind of behaviours that everyone hates KH for!

For the record, I'm a bit over weight so I would be one of those people that KH would be laughing at as I jog down the road...I couldn't care less.

I don't see why anyone would flame you.

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to think it makes you come across as a bit of a dick.

Horses for courses.

ohmyactualgiddyaunt · 05/01/2015 11:27

You like someone who posts things like 'sweaty jocks are sending us ebola bombs in the form of sweaty glaswegians' on twitter? Honestly?

She deserves every bit of vitriol she gets, imo.

SunnyBaudelaire · 05/01/2015 11:30

sorry but she is a twat due to the tweet mentioned above

ScooseIsLoose · 05/01/2015 11:32

Katie is that you? Hmm

SirChenjin · 05/01/2015 11:33

So - let's get this straight. Did you simply like the show, or do you like Katie Hopkins, media whore, and all the goady shite she comes out with - the most recent being "sweaty Glaswegians" (ie the NHS Lanarkshire employee who, at the moment, is critically ill with Ebola - one of the most awful diseases there is)?

IThinkUStink · 05/01/2015 11:35

No I didn't like that tweet but I think Twitter is a bit like verbal diarrhoea. Things are out before the brain has been properly engaged and thats it.

Just like you, me and everyone else she's entitled to her opinions. We may not like those opinions but she's one woman. Who really cares what she thinks or tweets.

I think people need to stop getting so worked up by her. It's an act that the puts on perfectly and everyone reacting to her just plays into her hands. If everyone hates the vitriol that comes out of her mouth why do they then respond with the same level of vitriol?
It makes them just as bad as her.

She's not right about eat less move more. I want to punch her in the face when I hear this. I heard it from doctors for YEARS until I was finally listened to and diagnosed hypothyroid. I can't lose weight despite the fact that I eat primarily Paleo and LCHF. I walk 4+km a day. Now stand in front of me and tell me it's simply eat less, move more. Angry

krustyem · 05/01/2015 11:37

The woman is (in my opinion) a total nob, but if that's the kind of qualitie you look for in a friend then that's up to you Confused

IThinkUStink · 05/01/2015 11:37

I think she came across well in the show. I don't follow her on Twitter (don't have Twitter) or particularly spend any time worrying about what she may or may not be saying.

I thought she was funny and likeable on the tv show.

OP posts:
krustyem · 05/01/2015 11:38

Or quality even Grin

SixToesLeft · 05/01/2015 11:39

Well, she needs all the friends she can get.

No one Scottish likes her....

squoosh · 05/01/2015 11:40

Sounds like she's taking a leaf out of Ryanair's book and trying to soften her image.

I don't get outraged by anything she says, I just yawn and move on. Bit bemused by all the threads she inspires. Aren't her 15 minutes up yet?

WorraLiberty · 05/01/2015 11:41

No I didn't like that tweet but I think Twitter is a bit like verbal diarrhoea. Things are out before the brain has been properly engaged and thats it.

Ahh that's ok then.

So do you also make the same excuse for those who tweet racist, homophobic anti disabled crap too?

Or do you only make excuses for this particular pile of hate speech?

TheLovelyBoots · 05/01/2015 11:44

I don't understand the MN obsession with this woman, to be honest. She ought to be a non-issue.

SirChenjin · 05/01/2015 11:45

In which case OP you need to pay more attention to what comes out of her nasty little mouth, before you start threads defending her.

And why the name change? Stand up and be counted for your defence of the vitriolic bile she comes up with.

editthis · 05/01/2015 11:46

On with the fire-proof pants, OP... I sort of know what you mean. I'm afraid I can't go so far as to say I like her, but she probably is quite funny if you are clinically incapable of being offended (not necessarily a bad thing) and she expresses herself rather well, even if she is spewing bile. Somewhat better than inanities and threats one sees elsewhere on Twitter. It is pathetic and boring when people retaliate with comments about her personal appearance and I can see why you might admire her for deflecting that.

IThinkUStink · 05/01/2015 11:48

inanimate that statement is a broad generalisation. For me it's correct and I'm sure it is for a lot of others. There are always people with reasons why losing weight is harder (medical reasons ect) but it doesn't make the statement of eat less move more wrong for a lot of people.

Sirzy · 05/01/2015 11:49

I love it when people are so secure in their views they feel the need to name change before sharing them!

SirChenjin · 05/01/2015 11:49

That's fine - eat less, move more.

Why the need for the vitriolic attacks though? Does she realise how much of a twat she looks to anyone who doesn't think Jeremy Kyle is a serious social commentary?

Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2015 11:52

Hi IThink, I haven't namechanged because I don't care but I saw some of the programme you are talking about and have to agree that in the bits I saw she came across ok. I laughed that she runs to 'Eye of the Tiger'. Grin

IThinkUStink · 05/01/2015 11:56

I'm not defending everything that comes out of her mouth, I'm saying that I quite liked her on the show.

When people stop reacting to her then she'll be out of a job and everyone will be happy.

I don't think the way she thinks about a lot of things and I don't like a lot of what she says but I also couldn't care less what she thinks/does/says.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 05/01/2015 12:01

I have always said she's a character-like Keith Lemon. She wants to offend and get everyone whipped up into a frenzy and she manages it every time.

squoosh · 05/01/2015 12:02

Well clearly her aim is to be 'oh so controversial' but there's only so long you can keep that going as a career. People get bored.

IThinkUStink · 05/01/2015 12:03

Believe me I'm not the first person in the history of MN to namechange for whatever reason.

I normally post on things that are personal and important to me. As I said in the op, admitting to liking KH in anyway is social suicide and I know too many people on here to do that to myself.
Does that make me insecure in my views? No it doesn't. My views and opinions are mine, no matter what name i'm going by.
There are whole threads of people admitting things they wouldn't in RL, does that make them insecure in their views? I certainly didn't see anyone saying that.
